Stand Fast Hostel

This hostel was the best (but also the most expensive) of our voyage. Thankfully, the staff spoke very good English since we can not speak portuguese. There are a lot of buses nearby and an Underground Station. Contrary to other hostels, there are enough and clean bathrooms.

The location is near the center and there is a great common room. Unfortunately, the owner does not speak English at all.

We had a twin private room. It was very quiet, sufficiently clean and the shared bathroom was okay. In the bathroom, some place to put your clothes is missing. In the room was a motion sensor for the light, so every time we moved while lying in our beds, the light turned on. You have to put sufficient pressure on the switch beneath to turn it off completely. Apart from that, the hostel was really great in terms of location and security compared to other hostels with similar price.

Swiss 1291 Hostel

Location is really great because it is a few minutes to walk to the Times Square. The staff is friendly and I had a room for only two people (not 6 or more like usually). It was not that clean but for this prize you cannot expect too much. The entrance is a bit hidden and there is the name "Broadway rooms" instead of "Swiss 1291", so be aware of that. The waching basin is in the room. That is good if you have a private room but a bit disturbing for the others in the room if you have a dorm.
