Not too bad, but not too great either. Dorm rooms and bathroom area are somewhat dingy, shower areas are very tiny without much space to put your stuff. Fairly nice lounge area, although there weren't many people around when I was there. Staff were friendly, but didn't seem very knowledgeable about the area. Location is right by a subway stop, so easy to get to from the Xi'an North train station, but not really in walking distance to any of the things you'd want to see in Xi'an.

Dragon King Hostel

Beijing, China

Very clean and safe, rooms were comfortable. Great place to meet people, the downstairs bar is very nice. Took the tour to the Great Wall and had a great time. Is right by a metro station and is fairly close to the major sights. Staff were helpful and spoke English well! Only complaint is that the wifi doesn't work well.

Hostel City Central Old Town

Dubrovnik, Croatia

The owner was very friendly and helpful - he even met me at the busstop when I arrived from the airport! He also showed me on a map where all of the main attractions in Dubrovnik are and where there are good restaurants. The location was also perfect - right outside of the Pile Gate and a main bus stop, so you can easily get anywhere you want. The hostel itself has typical beds, etc. It doesn't really have windows since it's essentially underground, which may make some people uncomfortable.

Hush Hostel Lounge

Istanbul, Turkey

This is a really nice place to stay! The hostel is clean and comfy with lot's of common space. It's also in a nice neighborhood that is fun to explore. Highly recommended!

Istanbul, Turkey

We enjoyed our stay here - the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly (particularly in helping us get some luggage that our airline lost). The location is great - lot's of restaurants, bars, and shops to walk to. Easy to get to the main tourist attractions. Nice rooftop patio/terrace. The free breakfast was good and filling. All in all, a great place to stay!

Belsize House

London, England

Was not too impressed with the hostel - very noisy at night from other guests. People were smoking in the hallways, even though it's supposedly not allowed. There seemed to be quite a few long-term guests. In general, the atmosphere was not all that nice. The staff were really nice and helpful though. Also, free breakfast and lunch or dinner were included. Not the best food, but it was free!

Hotel Val de Loire

Tours, France

A very nice place to stay when you're been in some crappy hostels! This is just a budget hotel, you have a bathroom and toilet in your room. Everything was very clean and smelled nice! You have your own private room, so you are not likely to meet other people. Location is right by the train station.

Hotel des Allies

Paris, France

Since you have private rooms, you can just leave your things in your room and not worry about it. The hot water and the cleanliness of the showers was inconsistent. The rooms were nice enough, and the location was good.

Central Hostel

London, England

I enjoyed my stay here. The beds and bathrooms were clean, there were free security lockers. The staff was helpful when our first key did not work. They have computers with internet and a tv in a common lounge area. The location is great! The only negative thing was the free "breakfast" which was just toast and some cereal. The silverware and plateware was limited, as well.
