This is a really good hostel. Located very centrally. Staff exceptionally friendly. Different activities arranged for the backpackers every night of the week e.g. ice-skating, trivia night etc. Free breakfast although not a lot of choice - i would have appreciated some cereal! Negatives were that it was really loud outside the room at night but it's located on the party street. The rooms were tiny. Funny smell in the hallway. Wifi is temperamental and only works properly in common area.

Solscape Eco Retreat

Raglan, New Zealand

This place is a very cool concept. It's a eco-friendly place to stay and all the rooms are converted railway carriages. It's located a 5 minute drive from Raglan town centre but up on a hill and the views of the sea and the beach are amazing. The only complaint i have is that there wasn't enough hot water in the shower to have a shower for the whole day.

Berkenoff has one of the best hostel kitchens i've ever seen. It's fully equipped, lots of space, two sinks and it's very clean. We stayed there during the off-peak season and there was only about 4 other people in the hostel but by the photos on the walls and the backpacker bar at the back i reckon it would be a great, sociable place to stay during peak time. The rooms were a little old fashioned but clean. No wifi available at all when we stayed

Rooms were a bit miserable and old-fashioned. The carpets were all stained. The sky light in our room had no curtains so we were woken quite early because of the light. The common room and kitchen are big, spacious and well-stocked. Free parking. Free wifi upon arrival.

It certainly was not for us! A lot of the people there seemed to love it! I found it dirty&dusty (brought on BOTH of our allergies pretty strongly). The kitchen is TINY and making food is such an ordeal due to this. When we arrived we were told they had given our room to people who had arrived without a booking, which seems to happen all the time. We were given a van to sleep in (cool idea-they put a big mattress in the back of it.) Owner rarely there. Supposed to stay 4 nights - left after 1.

We enjoyed our stay at The Nunnery. It's a beautiful old building with a colourful history and the nun theme is prominent throughout. The bathroom were perfectly fine and so were the rooms. It's in a great area of Melbourne, accessible by the trams, beside the Exhibition Building and well within walking distance of the city. The staff were good and helpful. The wifi was expensive though!

This place has a good atmosphere and is located in a nice area. It has a good common room with a tv and lots of DVDs but i would not stay here again. The owner charges you $5 to stay in the hostel in the last day and wait for your bus. He justifies this by saying you have to 'pay to use the facilities'. We have never had to pay to stay in the hostel on the last day. He handled it badly and we found him arrogant. The rest of the staff are very nice though. The hostel is overall dirty and grubby.

When we arrived into the transit centre they had a courtesy van collect us. This van runs every hour, on the hour to the centre of Surfers as the hostel is a 15 minute walk. We got upgraded from a dorm to a twin-room apartment when we arrived. The staff are nice. Good atmosphere there with everyone hanging around the social area. It has a basketball net and volleyball court and they arrange volleyball games at 6pm every other night. Free wifi in the social area, not in the bedrooms.

The hostel is geared towards travellers having a fun time. The beds are VERY loud! Everytime anyone moved in them i woke up. They have air con all all day, which is good but when i asked them to turn it down a degree or two because my bf was coming down with something they said if they turned it down it would 'break'! ???. The reception gets quite busy and can take a while to be served. Staff are ok but don't go out of their way to help you. Great kitchen, great character. Wifi is $4 for 24 hour

Big garden, outdoors area to chill out with hammocks. Free wifi if you book trips with them. Really cool kitchen in a room themed as a 'Woolshed'. Very unique! Clean bathrooms. Air con cost $5 for the day. The only problem we had was the reception opens and closes at unusual hours and sometimes the receptionist will just be gone when you need something. She can be late opening the reception too. Be aware of the closing times if you are arriving from a bus journey. Great hostel overall!

Hi Lorna, We appreciate your feedback and are always striving to improve the Woolshed experience.I'm sorry you experienced inconvenience with reception hours. Reception opening hours are on the door and do change during the school holiday break as we juggle childcare and reception. If I have to attend to my children during normal reception hours I put a sign on the door directing guests to our house at the back of the property and am always happy to open reception and provide service when needed.

The hostel is located a 15 minute walk from the city centre. They run vans to bring travellers to the bus station. The staff are ok. The hostel is a bit rough around the edges! But the bedrooms are clean and air con goes all and stays on all night. The kitchen is well-equipped. The atmosphere is ok. The tv room has a DVD player and we were looking forward to watching a DVD until we realised someone had shoved a DVD into the mechanism so it was broken :(

It was like staying in cabins in the forest. There is a bar right next to the hostel and a restaurant with mediocre food. The double/twin room cabins have very thin walls. On the last night there were a couple in the adjoining room with blaring music and dancing until late. The kitchen is somewhat under stocked with only one sharp chopping knife that people have to alternate using. The women at reception are helpful but always really busy and sometimes it took ages to be served.

The hostel organised to collect us from the Greyhound terminal upon arrival, even though we missed them! The couple who run the hostel are helpful and friendly, especially the lady. They will give advice to do with everything in Townsville. The kitchen is immaculate, it's so clean and tidy and fully stocked! The whole hostel is exceptionally clean, to the point of lacking a little personality, we thought. But it makes up for that in other ways! The air-con and WIFI is free, definite bonus!

We had an amazing time at this hostel over Christmas. They have a lovely pool, a lot of hammocks to relax on, free BBQ for anyone who wants to use it, is within walking distance of the shopping centre and Cole's Supermarket, had a book exchange, a booking office. The staff are extremely friendly, positive, helpful people. The manager, Helen, especially, goes out of her way to learn people's names even! They do BBQ nights and pizza nights for a reasonable price. They do charge for WIFI and aircon

This hostel has lots of character with hand written signs around the place and a collection box urging 'roommates' to donate money to have the two resident dogs, Shanti and Spotty, spayed. Stop the cycle of unwanted street dogs! A worthy cause we reckoned as we had the pleasure of meeting Shanti the dog and she was totally delightful :) Good beds. This place had a nice view from the balcony. It was about a 15 minute walk from the dock and it is bit of a steep climb. There was a nice pool and free wifi, but only in the reception, not in the rooms. One of the owners was very pleasant. The room was a haven for wildlife - there were monkeys jumping on the rooves every morning, there were ants, mosquitos, lizards and a snake once in the room. This didn't bother us too much though!

We went for the full moon party and had a great time, however, this was not due to the hostel being good! The room we opted for online was an 8-bed dorm. When we arrived we were put in a 16-bed dorm. The beds were as hard as planks, extremely uncomfortable. The staff were not good! It was overpriced. The bathroom was filthy and the staff did not clean the room or bathroom in the entire time we were there. The free boxing matches we got into were a plus, they had a good atmosphere.

This hostel is located in 'the ghetto', as we called it. On the street corner yells of 'Dijon' and 'Marlboro' would kinda put you off. The room we were in was BOILING hot every night with no way of cooling it down. The 'entertainment room' was a few tables and chairs thrown into a room. The kitchen's facilities are non-existant. To top it all off, one of the staff killed 2 rats out the back garden in front of us on the last night. We did not enjoy our stay... but it was cheap
