Hanoi City Hostel

Hanoi, Vietnam

Nice guesthouse (not a hostel as the name might suggest) in the Old Quarter. Spotless and pacious twin rooms at the front, a decent breakfast, and within walking distance from all the sights. Helpful staff offering good prices on tours and tickets, especially when compared to some of the more backpackery places.

Lub d Bangkok Silom

A purpose built hostel in Silom, very close to the SkyTrain. Very clean, warm atmosphere, superb staff, and well-kitted out dorm rooms (big lockers, and personal power points). The evening tours are good value, or you can just sit out on the street drinking beer and socialise. No free breakfast though, and the prices are a little on the high side, but for me it was well worth it.

Reggae Guest House

Excellent location, well signposted from the nearest LRT station (Pasar Seni), a good bar downstairs, and friendly staff. My only possible criticism is the small dorm, but that only aids socialising :)

Excellent location, friendly staff, and very spacious dorm room - top notch :)

I can't say anything bad at all about the Rooftop. From the initial warm welcome to the quality of the room, I was very happy to be staying there. Private rooms had both fan and aircon, there were two separate rooftop garden areas (both full of plants), and a spacious lounge/lobby area. The location was close enough to the centre of the historic streets to be a few minutes walk, yet far away enough to feel away from the general hubbub of other tourists. Highly recommended.

Lovely building, very rambling, and it has an outdoor courtyard and a rooftop area too. Well located right next to a tram stop, and a short walk to Fitzroy shopping/food. Staff were a little curt, though I'll give them the benefit of the doubt, as I stayed over the Australian Open weeks, and the place was jam packed. The room (3 bed dorm) was tiny and faced out on the courtyard and was very noisy until around midnight.

Sparky's

Very cosy hostel, bohemian style. A welcome change to some of the bigger, more clinical hostels. A little way out of the centre of town, but still walkable, and a takeaway across the road. USPs? The hot tub, and the rabbits :)

Nice modern place, friendly staff and good facilities, but VERY echoey - rooms on the 2nd floor can listen to conversations in the common area, and without earplugs I might have gone nuts.
