Pretty underwhelming. While I had no specific issues with it, the girls we were travelling with reported there was a used tampon in the female shower (1 of 2 female showers for the whole hostel, it seemed) for a number of days. Only one set of shower facilities for the whole building, and they're in the basement. Showers also cost 100 yen. Dorms very noisy and bright at night, and could be quite warm. The location was great, although I'd find somewhere else if I went again.
Seems like once upon a time it was a grand old hotel, now a very cool hostel. Wide variety of rooms (typical hostel rooms through to ryokan style) and great facilities. Well located with lots of good restaurants/bars/karaoke nearby.
Absolutely the nicest host I've ever met. The rooms were clean and air conditioned, with a small shared area upstairs for tea/fridge use. Rent bikes if you stay here (from the hostel or from kyoto station) as it is the best way to get around. Every time we left for the day he saw us off. Cannot stress enough how lovely he was. There are only 2 toilets and 1 shower, but it is very large, and there are only beds for around 10 or 12 guests, so it wasn't a problem.
Brand new hostel when we stayed there, and the staff were SO friendly. Also seemed really excited to see us every time we went past reception. Keep an eye out for the 'no outsiders' sign, there is a story about it. Very short walk to asakusa station, just make sure you get a map to find it the first time. Cannot recommend this hostel enough.
We stayed in two khaosan hostels while we were in Japan, both were fantastic. Will stay again.
Nice enough for a night, but would not stay there again. only the rooms were heated (which left the 'common room' uninhabitable) and the showers were pretty terrible. Not bad for the price though
The staff will help you make paper cranes, amongst other things. Common room here was great for meeting people etc. Short walk from most sights in hiroshima.
Comfortable warm rooms, nice clean toilets and showers. 300¥ gets you corn soup and toast for breakfast!
Great vibe for carnivale, met loads of great people there. staff were a bit wierd about letting people in or out without keys, and only a couple of the rooms had aircon. otherwise great!
Great hotel, fantastic location. short walk to the Pantheon, Notre Dame, Nightlife. Will come back.
Nicest place I've stayed this trip. It is a hotel though, if you're looking to meet people go somewhere else. If you want a great nights sleep this is what you're after.
had a very bad experience here. beds were terribly uncomfortable, room hot, noisy and the only toiled on our floor was flooded. not pretty! walk to moulon rouge, but so are a lot of other hostels. Find somewhere else.
Nice hostel, would come back. big bar, pool tables, foozball downstairs.
I would highly reccoment this hostel, lots of fun. Middle of red light/smoking cafe district.
Another great hostel of Berlin. Some of the rooms are pretty noisy, but just grab some free ear plugs at reception. That it is themed just adds another element of fun!
Very much deserved the ´best hostel in the world´award it got in 2008. cheap too.
Ticked all the boxes! rooms cleaned daily, will come back next time i'm in barcelona.
not much going on, fairly expensive for what we got. no problems with it though.
A great hostel, the pub crawls were great, and events every night. air con in rooms, nice clean bathrooms... brekky was cereal and toast, informative staff with maps, walking distance to just about everywhere, it pretty much ticked all the boxes!
Very good atmosphere, excellent beds. Lots of room, good breakfasts too. Internet was quite expensive, although there was free wifi for laptops. Id go there again.
