Paraiso Travellers Hostel

This is the perfect hostel for people traveling in groups, or who have friends in the city already. It`s very clean, safe, centrally located in a fantastic location. The drawbacks are no kitchen and no real communal atmosphere, Even though the hostel was full most nights i was there, never ran into anyone in the common room - everyone was doing there own thing. It was perfect for me, but maybe not for everyone.

This is a fantastic hostel. Location is excellent with easy access to major transport (train and airport), walking distance to many tourist areas, and easy access to buses. It's also well set up (a very central courtyard bar) for meeting people. Met lots of people to do things with, and made some great friends as well. Staff were nice and helpful, the space is beautiful, and bikes, computers, tv round it out nicely. Issues? A bit pricey, but all of BJ is. And paint needs a touch up. That's it

HI Lá em Casa Hostel

Small hostel with slightly smallish rooms. But everything is clean, comfortable, and the staff is extremely helpful. The location would not be "for everyone" - but it's in a quiet safe neighbourhood, 20 minute walk to Centro, 5 minute walk to the Metro, and a R15 cab ride from anywhere in the city. I thought it was great.

Great little B&B in the heart of Ciudad Vieja. Easy access to tourist areas (Puerto Mercado, Teatro Solis, Plaza Independencia), bus routes. The area is a bit questionable at night, but otherwise fantastic. The prize of this property are the rooms. Clean, well appointed, very well thought out. Couldnt have asked for more. Only detriment was the ability to meet people - but im fine with that. Staff were friendly, but a bit disorganized.

El Diablo Tranquilo

The older brother of playa suites, this place is first and foremost a party hostel. Rooms are a bit cramped, and lockers dont all function. A bit worn down, could use a good cleaning and refresh. However, no better place for meeting people, fantastic staff, and having fun. This is where people come to party in Punta del Diablo.

Would like to remind readers that this guest was here during Carnaval weekend, when our hostel along with some colleagues in town organized the Carnaval Games of Punta del Diablo with nightly activities like Karaoke and even a city wide parade. Not all days are Carnaval. A more apt notice, Carnaval brings the end of high season and a six month period of tranquility to town.

Little brother of the party hostel. In the most amazing location in Punta del Diablo, this smaller location has been very well designed and thought out. Balconies and hammocks, tables, computers and wifi, lockers and lots of space for everyone, individual plugins and lights, best hostel breakfast i've had in SA (french toast, eggs, and all the regulars), and fantastic staff fluent in English and Spanish.

The good: great location - can't be beat, friendly staff. Solid breakfast. Good price for Uruguay. Enforce quiet time. The not as good: dorm rooms are tiny, and tend to overheat. With the patio door open, it stays cool at night except the mosquitos get in and eat you alive. Bathrooms were hit and miss. Mostly a miss.

As with many others, this may be the best hostel i've stayed in on this trip. Clean, friendly knowledgable staff, lots of other great travellers, fantastic facilities. Other than being a 10 minute walk from town, there really are no other detriments to this great place.
