KEX Hostel

Reykjavik, Iceland

I stayed there twice, because I booked it in advance (stupid me). They tried to charge me for the blanket, something the didn't do the first stay. The staff had no idea up anything and recommended me a dodgy whale watching company, where the boat had to be towed back into harbour. All the locks at the toilets are broken and they didn't try to repair them and the idea of shower curtains is lost to them (big army style shower room with no privacy). Every time the assigned bed was already occupied.

The hostel itself is great. The location is a little bit of everything interesting to see. Some of the staff are super friendly and helpful, while others are nice but a little bit "uninformed" when it comes to the usual tourist question. PS: If you come or go to the airport, there are cheaper options than the private taxi offered by the hostel. There is a shared taxi, which is much cheaper and almost as fast and comfortable than the private one and there is also a bus going to the airport.

Good hostel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They even pick you up at the airport. The hostel is located very central. It might have been to do low season, but there was little to no social atmosphere between the guest. The kitchen was very useful too, because eating out at Easter Island is really expensive.

The Adventure Brew Hostel

La Paz, Bolivia

It was not a good hostel. It was freezing cold there and there was no heating (unless you pay extra), so I had to make to with a bottle of hot water. The shower was hot, but it couldn't keep a stable temperature (it was oscillation between burning hot and freezing cold in about 15-30 second intervals). This made showering almost a torture. There was barely any life in hostel (for once I go to a party hostel to have fun at the end of my holidays and then there is no party).

The hostel is as good as it gets in Uyuni. It has heating at night, which is very important there. The bathrooms are basic, the room are spacious. There are no lockers in the room and no ladders to climb up to the top bunk (which is difficult without). Furthermore, it is the only hostel in South America, which has not had wifi nor any other internet access for its guests.

The hostel is as good as it gets in La Paz. Good breakfast, soft beds, hot showers and a building, which is not freezing cold (rare in Bolivia). The only downside was the administration of the hostel, which was more than chaotic (putting me in the wrong room first, then finding that my bed is occupied in the other room, ... lots of chaos and many stairs to run up and down to sort it out).

It was freezing cold in this hostel. To make things worse, the hot water of the shower ran out after less than 5 minutes. The rooms don't have lockers and there are a lot of stairs to climb. In contrast to the 24h reception they claim here, there was no one there around noon for almost 2 hours to let me in the hostel to get my stuff (almost missed my bus). The breakfast was fine and the rooms were spacious.

Great hostel: it is clean, has heating (important), comfortable beds and nice showers. The only bad experience, which I had, was the tour booked though the hostel. I really like the hostel. It was the best, in which I stayed in Columbia. The staff was really helpful and also provided useful and correct information. The bar and the optional dinner are great. The downside of the place is that it is a little bit of everything worth seeing. Although there is a good bus connect to the centre of Santa Marta, I consider it a disadvantage. There are also no lockers in the room, although the are by far big enough to put some there.

The rooms were fine, but the curtains of the beds were always falling down. The locks of the both bathrooms are broken, which caused a less attentive guest to open one of them and accidentally throwing down all my clothes on the dirty floor in front of the shower. There is no hot water, because it is not needed after a hot day but it would be very welcome after a cold night in the air-conditioned rooms. The information, which I got from the staff were wrong too. Loud music all night until 6AM!

Hi, sorry for the bedbugs, unfortunately when our customers are coming from camping and places that has them, they bring it with them and they are difficult to exterminate, but we did clean the hole room a couple of times and fumigate as well. Now we were able to kill them all with a hotwater pression machine and we are bedbugs free. Also, the people whom arrive at 22:30 were checked by a guest as you said, but it was the owner's cousin and he was giving a hand those days, so it was part of our staff. Anyway, we hope your trip continue well and thanks for staying with us. Cheers. Alfonso Spoliansky. Cheers..

One of the very best hostels, I have ever stayed in. Nice stuff and a nice place, close to beach and with a view on the volcano (if the weather permits it) from the common room. The rooms are big, but a little basic (a small chair or a tiny table aside from the bed would let them look less empty).

There are good sides like the free Caiparinhas and bad sides like that they try to charge you for city maps, which one can get for free at the tourist office. I find it very disappointing that this guest took the time and effort to make such a long review but then did not to get the facts quite right. We give out a map for free (and of course there is OUR guide book with all its info for free) to all guests its a post card size .The maps we sell have nothing to compare with that of which tourism hands out for free(when they have them). They are a full size map of the city and WE buy them so its not likely we are going to give them out for free.Amazing huge brekkie till midday and free caipirinhas but a guest still believes we are TRYING rip him off somehow. The fact we have small lockers we are a hostel of average quality ?Perhaps a 5 star hotel would be more suitable for some guests.

The triple bunk beds are really a pain in the a.., especially if one has the top bunk. The rooms are very crowded(one has to put the luggage on top of one other luggage) and the prices were high for the quality (ok Rio+20 is going on, but still this doesn't justify this price). The breakfast was alright and the locations was fine, if one likes to stay near a beach, but far off the sights. The staff was very helpful when I had to organize excursions. We apologise for the inconvenience with the wifi - the problem has already been solved. About your other comments: we are sorry about your "pain in the a...", but our beds are exactly as shown in our microsite pictures and very usual in properties in Rio. We have lockers in the rooms and we suggest that people keep their big backpacks by their beds, not on top of others (?). Prices in Rio are higher during special events, carnival and new years. You made the booking, so you must have known it in advance. We are located 5 min walk from the beach, 15 min bus ride from the Sugar Loaf and 35 min bus ride from Christ the Redeemer. We also reccommend tours that will take you to all possible sights to see in one or two days. As for now, we haven't yet found a way to bring the Christ, Sugar Loaf Mountain, the city centre and the beach closer to one another, but we'll let you know. Good travels.

During my stay, there were a couple of special incidentes due to the behaviour of some guests, which I hope, are not normal for that place. The hostel itself is very nice, but there weren't any lockers. The staff wasn't particulary unfriendly or anything, but they seemed to be very demotivated and I got the impression, that they are only doing what they really have to do because they have do it although they hate their job. The location is great but it would be very hard to find a bad location in a small town such as Colonia. The rooms are very large, there is really enough space for everybody.

Hostel Estoril

It was a great place to stay. The bar on the roof is nice and it keeps the party away from the dormatories, so that people who want to sleep actually can sleep. The kitchen is nice, but some basic ingredients like pepper and oil should be around (but weren't) in hostel.

A great space to stay, although I didn't like the bathrooms there very much, but everything else is perfect.

Great hostel at a good location (5-10 minutes walk to the bus termial and to the center each). The building is nice, but one shouldn't be too tall, else one tends to bump one's head.

A very friendly and helpful staff and the location is excelent. The only negative points are that there are no lockers and the bathroom/bed ratio is quite low.

Montenegro Hostel

Kotor, Montenegro

Basically, it is a good hostel at a very central location in the beautiful town of Kotor. But I have to mark two bad sides of it: Because it is extremely central, it can be quite loud outside and since it is necessary to keep the windows opened during summer, it is also loud inside. Furthermore, I want to note that the bathroom in my room was also a kind of saune, because it did neither have a ventilation system nor a window.

It is a nice hostel in a very "albanian" area not far from the city center. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The only bad point, which I have to note, is that there are no lockers.

Two important remarks: it is a guesthouse and no hostel and you should phone the owner some time before your arrival.

Guesthouse Velania

It is a nice guest house with a very friendly staff. The location could be better. Please note, that the location marked on the googlemaps map here isn't 100% correct. I recommend to check openstreetmaps for the correct location (there is only guesthouse marked in the whole area and that's it) or simple ask the locals for the way (everybody knows it).

Madness Hostel

Belgrade, Serbia

I have several remarks to this hostel. Smoking is permitted on the balcony, which in front of a room (which consequently smells terribly smoky), so I cannot recommend it for nonsmokers. Furthermore, quite a lot of people pass through this room and there is some club downstairs, which plays extremly loud music until midnight (which can be very disturbing if you have to catch an early bus or train the next day). It is definitely a party hostel with no place to retreat, if you want to take a break.

Auberge Bagatelle

Definitely not the best hostel: the beds were quite uncomfortable(only 1.80m long, dirty and the pillow was fixed underneath the linen), but everything else was there and working. Nevertheless it is extremly cheap and fits the expected price/performance ratio.
