An awesome small hostel with a very friendly and helpful staff. It seems to be rather, but since the old town of Alba Iulia just got refurbished, it will become a popular place. The only minor downside is its location, which is quite a bit away from the train station/bus terminal, but reasonably close to the city centre.

Basically a fine hostel. However it seems to be only a side-business for the bar and the staff (waiters) are not well organised. The rooms are fine but there is no common area for the entire hostel (every room has its own kitchen).

I stayed there twice, because I booked it in advance (stupid me). They tried to charge me for the blanket, something the didn't do the first stay. The staff had no idea up anything and recommended me a dodgy whale watching company, where the boat had to be towed back into harbour. All the locks at the toilets are broken and they didn't try to repair them and the idea of shower curtains is lost to them (big army style shower room with no privacy). Every time the assigned bed was already occupied.

The hostel itself is great. The location is a little bit of everything interesting to see. Some of the staff are super friendly and helpful, while others are nice but a little bit "uninformed" when it comes to the usual tourist question. PS: If you come or go to the airport, there are cheaper options than the private taxi offered by the hostel. There is a shared taxi, which is much cheaper and almost as fast and comfortable than the private one and there is also a bus going to the airport.

Good hostel. The staff is very friendly and helpful. They even pick you up at the airport. The hostel is located very central. It might have been to do low season, but there was little to no social atmosphere between the guest. The kitchen was very useful too, because eating out at Easter Island is really expensive.

It was not a good hostel. It was freezing cold there and there was no heating (unless you pay extra), so I had to make to with a bottle of hot water. The shower was hot, but it couldn't keep a stable temperature (it was oscillation between burning hot and freezing cold in about 15-30 second intervals). This made showering almost a torture. There was barely any life in hostel (for once I go to a party hostel to have fun at the end of my holidays and then there is no party).

The hostel is as good as it gets in Uyuni. It has heating at night, which is very important there. The bathrooms are basic, the room are spacious. There are no lockers in the room and no ladders to climb up to the top bunk (which is difficult without). Furthermore, it is the only hostel in South America, which has not had wifi nor any other internet access for its guests.

The hostel is as good as it gets in La Paz. Good breakfast, soft beds, hot showers and a building, which is not freezing cold (rare in Bolivia). The only downside was the administration of the hostel, which was more than chaotic (putting me in the wrong room first, then finding that my bed is occupied in the other room, ... lots of chaos and many stairs to run up and down to sort it out).

It was freezing cold in this hostel. To make things worse, the hot water of the shower ran out after less than 5 minutes. The rooms don't have lockers and there are a lot of stairs to climb. In contrast to the 24h reception they claim here, there was no one there around noon for almost 2 hours to let me in the hostel to get my stuff (almost missed my bus). The breakfast was fine and the rooms were spacious.

Great hostel: it is clean, has heating (important), comfortable beds and nice showers. The only bad experience, which I had, was the tour booked though the hostel. They should change their tour operator, because my Maras-Moray tour was rushed extremely (5min at one sight, 15min at the other, but several hours in the bus and 45min at an art workshop) and the guide only spoke Spanish.

I really like the hostel. It was the best, in which I stayed in Columbia. The staff was really helpful and also provided useful and correct information. The bar and the optional dinner are great. The downside of the place is that it is a little bit of everything worth seeing. Although there is a good bus connect to the centre of Santa Marta, I consider it a disadvantage. There are also no lockers in the room, although the are by far big enough to put some there.

The rooms were fine, but the curtains of the beds were always falling down. The locks of the both bathrooms are broken, which caused a less attentive guest to open one of them and accidentally throwing down all my clothes on the dirty floor in front of the shower. There is no hot water, because it is not needed after a hot day but it would be very welcome after a cold night in the air-conditioned rooms. The information, which I got from the staff were wrong too. Loud music all night until 6AM!

Really a nice hostel. It is located at the edge (but still close) of the old town. The rooms were nice and spacious. It has the use of the kitchen and a simple breakfast included. The staff was helpful, but the map was not very useful. The only problem during my stay was that for some reason (there is common area and people were there), one couldn't really get in touch or talk to the other guests. Might have been the guests fault.

Good hostel, nice people. However, the water pressure on the top floor is really low, if one wants hot water using the electric showers. The room tend to get quite cold at night. There is no common room or any place to hang out with other guest past 11pm available (they literally turn of the lights and kick you out at that time). The view from the roof top is amazing.

One of the best hostels I ever stayed in. The owner Kevin is simply awesome and very helpful. He provides a free city tour and tells you how and where to find cheap and good excursions to other places on the Galapagos. I booked one night and stayed for 4 in total. However, there was a problem with some bed bugs again (luckily I didn't get bitten, but others did) and some guests who arrived a little late (22:30) had to be "checked in" by other guests, since nobody of staff was around anymore.

View Property Reply

Hi, sorry for the bedbugs, unfortunately when our customers are coming from camping and places that has them, they bring it with them and they are difficult to exterminate, but we did clean the hole room a couple of times and fumigate as well. Now we were able to kill them all with a hotwater pression machine and we are bedbugs free. Also, the people whom arrive at 22:30 were checked by a guest as you said, but it was the owner's cousin and he was giving a hand those days, so it was part of our staff. Anyway, we hope your trip continue well and thanks for staying with us. Cheers. Alfonso Spoliansky. Cheers..

22nd Dec 2012

One of the very best hostels, I have ever stayed in. Nice stuff and a nice place, close to beach and with a view on the volcano (if the weather permits it) from the common room. Everything is new and clean (and a part is still under construction, but this doesn't interfer with the hostel). The rooms are big, but a little basic (a small chair or a tiny table aside from the bed would let them look less empty).

The staff is the most friendly, which I have ever encountered. The hostel is simply great. The only point which was not perfect, was that there are no individual lockers in the 4 bed dorm. One hit: Check your Spam-Filter(it was there) for any e-mails of the owner, because the hostel is very difficult to find, unless one gets the detailed instructions. If you don't recieve an e-mail after booking, write the owner to send you the detailed directions again.

16th Sep 2012

It is very difficult to review this hostel. I really enjoyed my stay and the hostel is most likely the best which one can get in Valle de la Luna, but it could use some modernizations. Nevertheless, everything was working but the internet, which was either too slow or down most of the time. The staff was very friendly and helpfull, but I think they only speak very little English (since I speak Spanish too, it wasn't a problem). The hostel has no lookers, but Valle Fertil is a very safe place.

Basically a very nice hostel with friendly staff and lots of information on what to do in Mendoza and nearby. There are only two downsides: their are no ladders, which makes it very hard to get onto the upbed without waking the person sleeping on the downbed (on can climb up somehow on the backside of the bed, but it is still quite inconvinient). The next remark I have to make: there are no lookers in the room, but one can RENT(!) some on the corridor. PS: Cute cat!

The hostel itself is fine, the pool is nice, the rooms are great, but the (included) breakfast in the restaurant next door is terrible. The staff is friendly, but friendliness isn't enough. Their English isn't rather poor for someone working in a hostel, furthermore they don't seem to be very competent. They even almost screwed up my booking for the rainforest tour. There is a kitchen, but without microwave.

There are good sides like the free Caiparinhas and bad sides like that they try to charge you for city maps, which one can get for free at the tourist office. The location is good for sightseeing and partying (what I did), but if you want to go to a beach, it is a little bit far (20min on a bus). The bunk beds don't have ladders, so it might be a little bit difficult to get to the top bunk and the lockers are small (I cound barely fit my laptip in). I would say it is a hostel of average quality.

View Property Reply

I find it very disappointing that this guest took the time and effort to make such a long review but then did not to get the facts quite right. We give out a map for free (and of course there is OUR guide book with all its info for free) to all guests its a post card size .The maps we sell have nothing to compare with that of which tourism hands out for free(when they have them). They are a full size map of the city and WE buy them so its not likely we are going to give them out for free.Amazing huge brekkie till midday and free caipirinhas but a guest still believes we are TRYING rip him off somehow. The fact we have small lockers we are a hostel of average quality ?Perhaps a 5 star hotel would be more suitable for some guests.

Walk On The Beach Hostel, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

15th Jun 2012

The triple bunk beds are really a pain in the a.., especially if one has the top bunk. The rooms are very crowded(one has to put the luggage on top of one other luggage) and the prices were high for the quality (ok Rio+20 is going on, but still this doesn't justify this price). The breakfast was alright and the locations was fine, if one likes to stay near a beach, but far off the sights. The staff was very helpful when I had to organize excursions. There were constant problems with the wifi.

View Property Reply

We apologise for the inconvenience with the wifi - the problem has already been solved. About your other comments: we are sorry about your "pain in the a...", but our beds are exactly as shown in our microsite pictures and very usual in properties in Rio. We have lockers in the rooms and we suggest that people keep their big backpacks by their beds, not on top of others (?). Prices in Rio are higher during special events, carnival and new years. You made the booking, so you must have known it in advance. We are located 5 min walk from the beach, 15 min bus ride from the Sugar Loaf and 35 min bus ride from Christ the Redeemer. We also reccommend tours that will take you to all possible sights to see in one or two days. As for now, we haven't yet found a way to bring the Christ, Sugar Loaf Mountain, the city centre and the beach closer to one another, but we'll let you know. Good travels.

Thank you for sharing your experience. It's true, a greater percentage of our occupancy are school groups. That's common for us this time of year. Visit us again in the summer and I'm sure you'll find more hostelers like yourself. The a/c is adjustable by staff only. Just let us know and we'll be happy to assist you with that. Safe travels! Basically, it is a good hostel at a very central location in the beautiful town of Kotor. But I have to mark two bad sides of it: Because it is extremely central, it can be quite loud outside and since it is necessary to keep the windows opened during summer, it is also loud inside. Furthermore, I want to note that the bathroom in my room was also a kind of saune, because it did neither have a ventilation system nor a window.

I have several remarks to this hostel. Smoking is permitted on the balcony, which in front of a room (which consequently smells terribly smoky), so I cannot recommend it for nonsmokers. Furthermore, quite a lot of people pass through this room and there is some club downstairs, which plays extremly loud music until midnight (which can be very disturbing if you have to catch an early bus or train the next day). It is definitely a party hostel with no place to retreat, if you want to take a break.

Almost everything was excellent, but the beds were quite uncomfortable, especially because of those strange sleeping bag like linen.

It was quite loud during night, because people like to party outside on the street and one could not close the windows because this hostel does not only have a free sauna, it is a sauna!

It feels more like a barrack (although the dorms are two bed rooms) than a typical hostel.

Was a great hostel, but it was as hot inside as outside (30C). The staff was very nice, but some of them were a little too new to be of a great help.

Typical Swiss hostel. Basically there is nothing you can complain about, but it leaks atmophere and is quite oversized.

It is something between a hostel and hotel. The bedrooms were nice but I missed a common room.

Nice hotel(!) in Bologna, excellent quality for a small price. Only disadvantage is the location (about 30min walk form the station or the inner city).
