Awesome place near the party neighborhood of Warschauer strasse / Spree. No curfew, free wifi, free all-day cereal breakfast (in Berlin the morning is often late, say 18:00), lockers, numerous modern bathrooms.. met many interesting people while there. No complaints, go for it. Oh, it is a bit of walk to the nearest U-bahn stations. Nearby there is a tram that goes to Warschauer station, but usually it was faster to walk than wait for it.

Sandino is a perfect place to chill out and meet awesome people. The rooms, showers etc. are big, there are lockers, free wi-fi, ping pong table in the yard and everything. You can get to Alexanderplatz with one tram without changes, but some other important places require one or two changes. The neighborhood is cheap and there are a couple of small lakes nearby. Definitely recommended.

Huge hostel within walking distance (albeit a bit long) from the center. Cool staff, lockers, movie theater room, enough showers and toilets. Wifi internet is not free, you have to pay. Party hostel vibe. The free tourist tram goes near the hostel, that's a bonus. Recommended

Superb place, one of the very best. Really cool decor, paintings on the walls, frog statues and a huge Alaskan Malamute dog walking in the premises. Staff feels really involved and there are trips and food nights etc. The dorm was a bit small since most are backpackers but nothing too serious. Could have stayed for a loong time.

Big "party hostel" in an unbeatable location near the Federation Square. It's a walking distance to the Southern Cross train/bus station, even with a heavy backpack. There's a super cool "dvd" movie theater room where people are lying on matresses in a semi-conscious state and watching movies in the dark. Totally recommended!

Good place. Probably has the most amazing view from common space of any hostel. The common space also has a fireplace, video game coin-ops, restaurant, pool tables etc. Dorm room even had a bath tub! Good base for hikes into the mountains. Staff wasn't the friendliest I've seen though...

Big "party" hostel with super-nice staff in a good spot near the center, but there was a problem: The areas in the hostel are color-coded to your keycard. It's like an orwellian nightmare when your friend is staying in a different colored zone and you can't go knocking on their door (have to communicate through wifi, and that was not free). Weird and annoying.

Super-clean ryokanesque hostel on the interesting side of Asakusa (don't stay east of Sumida river, boring!). There is a 10 minute walk to subway though. It's a goddamn SUPERHOSTEL. Unbeatable location just next to Pike Market, free wifi, big lockers under the beds, no curfew, free breakfast (and free dinner twice a week), a whole load of useful info and magazines around (especially appreciated the huge board of current movie related events). Good location very near bus station and airport - no need to drag your luggage far. The place is almost psychedelic, weird paintings and Wild West -theme cabins, staff and some inhabitants were like from some eccentric movie. Although the staff can initially seem like they don't care about you, they do. Free wifi, fridge in dorm room, no curfew. Horrible air ventilation in the dorm, and the AC couldn't be turned off - I felt frozen before I took a second (!) blanket. Still - pretty good place.

The location is good, since Ikebukuro is a living (night) neighborhood unlike Asakusa where "all" hostels are, but still it's a loong walk from Roppongi, Shibuya or even Shinjuku. Clean.
