Nice. Big common spaces, lounge with pool table. Big kitchen, quite good breakfast included, wifi... Walking distance to the beach! Maybe not the cleanest place, the shower in the dorm could have been better etc. Staff lady was super nice.

Cool "surf" hostel with all the important things (wifi, lockers, kitchen, good lounge areas...) The staff were especially nice, even called a vet to tend to the resident kittens when they suspected that they were sick. The location is great, walking distance from the water taxis. But most of all I liked the atmosphere and the people, talking to people in the yard while sipping smoothies they make in the bar.

Great, relaxed hostel! Good location, wifi, kitchen, people hanging out in a big comfortable lounge watching Netflix, and the owner is cool and always seems to be on a good mood. There is a gym next to the hostel, playing loud music from 7am to 21/22pm but it didn't bother me. The hostel guests can go to the gym for free (I did), which I think is a big bonus!

Relaxed place with a good vibe. The staff was interesting: helpful, but .. somewhat.. slow-moving :D Wifi, kitchen, the works. The location is a tiny bit far from the beach and far from the Old Town, but that's San Juan, can't have everything. Hell, I liked this place, a lot. Recommended!

Nice place to stay. Walking distance to the beaches, good in-house restaurant (loved the fish-tacos!), wifi, lockers... my only complaint is the lounge floor which is made of sharp rocks, horrible for walking to the shower without flip-flops.

Classy place. Wifi, lockers, lounge, kitchen, nice people hanging out upstairs and downstairs. Location could be better, but in San Juan it's always a long way to the beach or a long way to the Old Town. The breakfast was really good, fresh mango, banana, eggs, toast...

The atmosphere is very friendly, the staff really seem to care for their guests. WiFi, short walking distance to some good restaurants and bars, hot baths and to the ropeway. There is a problem though: the dormitory is very noisy as it's in the middle of everything - people walk through it when they go to balcony, bathrooms, reception, private rooms. The private room smelled moldy (problem with air ventilation), but it's a bit quieter at least. Other than that it's very good.

Essaouira Surf Lounge, Essaouira, Morocco

27th Dec 2014

After entering the Surf Lounge, you immediately feel relaxed: this is a good friendly place and you want to stay a long time. Closest to the ideal hostel atmosphere I found in Morocco. In the heart of the medina, nearby to everything (Essaouira is small anyway), free wifi internet, common room with music jams and food, sofas in the lounge. The staff are very chilled out, and helpful people hang around all the time. Full of nice details too (the three-headed turtle table!). Thanks.

Riad Itry, Marrakech, Morocco
10.0
23rd Dec 2014

A far more interesting option to the usual hotels. Riad Itry is the real deal, a moroccan style guest house with beautiful details and a terrace with views over the city. The owner (?) was cool and told all the useful stuff. Finding the riad is a bit of an adventure as it's in the heart of the maze-like old town, but that's what Marrakech medina is all about! You should stay in a riad while in Morocco, the peace and quietness inside is surprising after the hectic streetlife outside.

Excellent. Hostel done right, everything works. Good place to get to know people, there were always travellers hanging out in the lounge and a good vibe. Kuramae is far from the nightlife (Roppongi, Shibuya, Ikebukuro, Shinjuku..) but then again, so are 95% of the hostels. Prepare to come home at midnight or stay up until morning. No curfew though.

Thank you very much for your detailed comments! We have a perfect lounge for relaxing after your adventure in Tokyo. And yes, you are right! Most of hostels in Tokyo are in the same area as we are. However, we are still approximately 30 minutes away by subway from Roppongi, Shibuya, Shinjuku, and etc for the nightlife! We look forward to welcoming you again!

One of the best hostels anywhere. It's full of nice and beautiful details, a real work of art - the common room even has a samurai armor (and easily the most gigantic tv I've ever seen in a hostel). Pleasant surprise, for the amazingly low price I thought it wouldn't be so nice. The location is good because a major train station is very near and it's only a short walk to Shin sekai, and through that to Den Den Town and from there to Doutonbori. The staff was friendly. I bet the place was designed as a prison or mental asylum because the rooms have a "feeding flap" in the door, although it was covered with paper. Don't get me wrong; the rooms are very comfortable, small tv and tatami floor.

Awesome place near the party neighborhood of Warschauer strasse / Spree. No curfew, free wifi, free all-day cereal breakfast (in Berlin the morning is often late, say 18:00), lockers, numerous modern bathrooms.. met many interesting people while there. No complaints, go for it. Oh, it is a bit of walk to the nearest U-bahn stations. Nearby there is a tram that goes to Warschauer station, but usually it was faster to walk than wait for it.

Big "party hostel" in an unbeatable location near the Federation Square. It's a walking distance to the Southern Cross train/bus station, even with a heavy backpack. Big "party" hostel with super-nice staff in a good spot near the center, but there was a problem: The areas in the hostel are color-coded to your keycard. It's like an orwellian nightmare when your friend is staying in a different colored zone and you can't go knocking on their door (have to communicate through wifi, and that was not free). Weird and annoying.

Super-clean ryokanesque hostel on the interesting side of Asakusa (don't stay east of Sumida river, boring!). There is a 10 minute walk to subway though. Free wifi internet, fridge, no curfew, small locker available. Certainly not a "party-hostel", but if you want to rest for a while and wish for a classy experience, Toukaisou is the place. Recommended.

Great great location, but weird opening hours of the reception could cause problems.. we managed to check in easily after 18 though. Small lockers in the rooms (bring your own padlock), enough for a laptop but not for a backpack etc. Oh and LINEN AND TOWELS NOT INCLUDED IN PRICE, that sucks. It's bring your own or pay like 7 eur. Wifi internet in the rooms. Too bad there is not really proper social lounge.

It's a goddamn SUPERHOSTEL. Unbeatable location just next to Pike Market, free wifi, big lockers under the beds, no curfew, free breakfast (and free dinner twice a week), a whole load of useful info and magazines around (especially appreciated the huge board of current movie related events). GT seems to attract interesting people too, it's a bit on the "party hostel" side (even though you'll get a good nights sleep easily). The bathrooms/showers were big and clean. Staff was great too!

Good location very near bus station and airport - no need to drag your luggage far. The place is almost psychedelic, weird paintings and Wild West -theme cabins, staff and some inhabitants were like from some eccentric movie. Although the staff can initially seem like they don't care about you, they do. Free wifi, fridge in dorm room, no curfew. Horrible air ventilation in the dorm, and the AC couldn't be turned off - I felt frozen before I took a second (!) blanket. Still - pretty good place.

You need EARPLUGS. This place is right in the heart of the nightlife, the noise is infernal. Other than that, it's a bit rundown but nice. Location is excellent, a short walk to the beach and to Dizengoff area. Also, they do have free wifi internet even though they don't advertise it here. Fridge for food, locks in doors, caretaker will wait for you and open the door if you arrive in the middle of the night. Just remember the earplugs, and maybe also sleeping mask to cover your eyes from the sun

The location is good, since Ikebukuro is a living (night) neighborhood unlike Asakusa where "all" hostels are, but still it's a loong walk from Roppongi, Shibuya or even Shinjuku. Clean. The place has great character, it\'s in a favela but peaceful, chilled and the staff is just plain great, and so were the guests. Could stay there for months easily.

Truly a great hostel. Good \"feng shui\" in the dorm room, clean, in an interesting area and next to a subway station. Helpful and cool staff. Will definitely visit again.

Kawaguchi-ko Station Inn, Mount Fuji, Japan

A perfect place, the location is just next to the railway station, facing Mt. Fuji. There was even a view of Fuji-san from the hot bath. Four free, well-maintained internet computers, and the staff even lent us flashlights for Fuji for free. The rooms were cozy and clean, there was yukata etc. offered. The only gripe is that there's this insanely irritating melody playing in the traffic lights near the Inn during daytime. I give this place five stars (out of five)

It was very hard to find, there was no map, just an address in japanese format. The internet was costly (500 yen / 30 min), because it didn't work well and was slow to use (under-powered laptop with Vista and japanese error messages...) The staff was nice though.
