Born Free Hostel

Bangkok, Thailand

This was a great hostel conveniently located near to Khao San Road, lots of restaurants and 10 minutes walk from the pier for the river buses. Kevin the owner was very friendly and welcoming, and was always there to help with information and requests. The common area is very big and comfortable and it is easy to meet other travellers. There are personal lockers for storing valuables. I stayed here 3 times during my travels around Thailand and would definitely stay here again when I return.

Hong Kong Hostel

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

This is the fourth time I have stayed at this hostel and always choose it as my base when I come to HK as it is in an excellent location about 2 minutes away from Causeway Bay MTR station, and has excellent transport links and many shops and restaurants nearby, including a large Wellcome supermarket almost opposite There are large lockers in the 4 bed dorm rooms, which are small but comfortable. There is a small kitchen and bathrooms for each set of rooms and a main common room for the hostel.

Kandy Down Town Hostel

Clean and comfortable rooms and you can order meals for a very reasonable price. Very social atmosphere and nice balcony to sit out on. The only problem is the hostel is within walking distance from town, but is quite a long walk uphill and through a dark tunnel, so usually have to take tuk tuk.

Sleep in Heaven

Copenhagen, Denmark

Situated fairly near to a metro and quite close to the centre. Very comfortable, spacious and clean dorms with lockers that are locked with your keycard. The only problem is there is no kitchen or fridge, which is a problem when on a tight budget in the very expensive city. Also had to stand in the corridor outside the dorm to pick up the wifi signal.

Great hostel close to the Amtrak station in Flagstaff. There is a very friendly atmosphere and the staff are very helpful and friendly, making it one of the best hostels I have stayed at in America. The dorm is small, but comfortable and the Grand Canyon tour they offer is the cheapest in town, and was excellent, with great insight from Dillon the guide. I would definitely stay here again.

Very good value for money and on the same road as the strip, so there is a bus stop for the Deuce bus outside. The hostel organise activities every day which is good, and there is a kitchen and big common area which is great if you are on a budget.

Hollywood Youth Hostel

Los Angeles, USA

The best thing is it is almost opposite the metro and on bus routes for getting around by public transport. When I arrived the receptionist was having a heated argument with another guest checking in, so absolutely not welcoming, and was quite rude and uninterested when checking me in. You have to pay 25c per time you open the locker in the room, so ended up quite expensive and something went missing from my rucksack. It is very loud all night being on the boulevard, so would stay elsewhere.

Hostel Gamla Stan

Stockholm, Sweden

The hostel is in a great location on the harbour front in central Stockholm. It is a short walk to the nearest metro and ferry and there are many attractions nearby. The dorms are fairly large, so was not a problem with so many beds, and didn't often have to wait to use a bathroom. There is a big breakfast included, which is very useful with the expensive food prices in Stockholm.

Good hostel, but quite difficult to find from bus stop, as it is set back off the street in an apartment block. Easy to get to the centre on the bus, you get a locker with key and the staff are friendly.

One of the best hostels I've stayed at in the world and far better than the majority of hostels I've stayed at in Russia. Large, spacious and clean, very helpful and friendly staff, and in an excellent location within a short walking distance of the centre. Excellent facilities in modern apartment building. Would definitely recommend this hostel.

This is definitely the best hostel I've stayed at in Brazil. Spacious, clean rooms with big lockers, and I was in the 4 bed dorm which had a big en suite bathroom. There are good common areas with kitchen etc. and there is an excellent por quilo buffet in the bar area. Victor and the other staff are friendly and helpful with information about places to go on Ilha Grande. This is the second time I've stayed at this hostel and I hope to come back again.

Refugio Hostel

Great hostel in Rio with friendly and helpful staff. The location is good near the metro Largo do Machado and is also near to lots of shops and restaurants, which are generally cheaper than those in the Zona Sul. Each bed has a locker and there are a few showers, so never had to wait. They were kind enough to store my luggage when I went away for a few days as well. Would definitely choose this hostel again if I was back in Rio.

Great location near the bus station, and around 10 minutes walk to the town centre. Good rooms and facilities with kitchen and a lovely balcony overlooking the town where you have breakfast, which had quite a lot of variety. The staff were friendly and helpful, would stay here again if go back to Ouro Preto.

Located on the sea, it had excellent views across the bay. The dorm room was spacious, and I was lucky to have a whole 10-bed dorm to myself when I stayed. The kitchen is very large with good facilities. The only annoying thing is that you have to pay significantly extra for a duvet, which I didn't, and was freezing!

Smile Hostel

Nizhny Novgorod, Russia

This hostel lost my booking, so after spending several hours on the train, was left standing by the door for more than half an hour waiting for the receptionist to at first realise that due to an "admin error" my booking had been lost and my bed resold to someone else and were fully booked. It took ages for them to sort another hostel for me to stay in, which had a lot more beds in it than the room I booked here so definitely lost out on price and didn't get a decent night's sleep. Unreliable.

This is the 2nd time I've stayed in this hostel because the location is excellent in Causeway Bay on HK island, about 2 minutes walk from the metro. The dorm rooms are definitely not amongst the cleanest I've seen, particularly the bathroom, and it seemed Easter made the prices fairly expensive this time, but if like me while in HK you only want somewhere to sleep, then this is great.

Huge rooms with plenty of space which meant that even though there were a lot of beds in the dorms you didn't feel crowded. City Centre Tourist Hostel

Excellent location, nice kitchen, friendly staff. Only one working shower which was also a bit rubbish. Didn\'t stay the night as was just waiting for a late coach after travelling from elsewhere and wanted a shower. Don\'t think I would\'ve wanted to sleep in those beds, although might be ok for one night for the price.

Seems to have improved since the last time I stayed a few years ago. Dorms were spacious and clean and the beds very comfortable and nice breakfast of cereal and toast. Convenient for the city centre. Only gripe is having to pay £1 per bag to leave luggage there after checkout, especially as I only wanted to leave it for 1 hour.

Hostel Possonium

Hostel has themed rooms of different countries which were fairly clean and nice. Had to queue for quite a while for showers as there were only a couple on each floor. Near to train station and airport bus, but 15 mins to town. Second night was woken by an extremely loud group of men who shouted for over an hour at about 3am, but I suppose you can\'t help who else is in the dorm, although it would\'ve been nice if the staff had told them to be quiet, especially as the room was next door to recept

This was one of the best hostels I've stayed in and a bargain for the price. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the rooms were nice and the common area was spacious and attractive. The only downside was the kitchen was a little small with only a couple of hobs to cook on, but fine for a few days. I will definitely be staying at this hostel again in the future.

Nice location in central Pisa, but is above a piazza that gets very noisy at night so couldn\'t get much sleep here. The rooms are very cramped and the walls are paper thin so could hear the extremely loud conversation in the room next door all night long. Staff were very friendly. OK for 1 night but couldn\'t see myself staying here for any longer than that.

Stayed in an en-suite room which was nice with lockers under your bed for storage, but you need to bring your own padlock. There\'s no kitchen, but otherwise great hostel, have stayed twice.
