The Allen Lee Hotel

Washington DC, USA

Great location for a hostel, right in the University area so it feels very safe. Close to the Foggy Bottom/GWU Metro stop. Rooms have everything you would need including a fridge, microwave and (in the single room I was in) a sink. Great that there is free wi-fi but annoying how you have to be in the lobby to use it, especially when they lobby closes at midnight. They have a service where you can pay $5 and they will wash, dry and fold all of your laundry for you, which is awesome.

Orange Village Hostel

We stayed at this hostel for a week, and came up with hundreds of bed bug bites. When we told the guy on reception and showed him how covered we were, he said "yes, every hotel has bed bugs". He did nothing to try and make the situation better. When exiting the main door from the hostel, do not turn left into the Tenderloin - actually saw people shooting up and defecating in the street. For the price, you're better to stay at the Green Tortoise in North Beach.

India House was an awesome place to stay and provided the greatest opportunity to meet new people and fully enjoy New Orleans.

40 Berkeley Hostel

Boston, USA
54%

40 Berkeley can hardly be called a hostel. It has crazy residents wandering around at all hours (random knocking at our door at 7am and then disappearing), 2 ladies toilets for an entire floor (others couldn't wait for the toilet and were seen to use the shower as a toilet instead), and residents were using all 4 machines in the laundry constantly and got aggressive when we tried to use them. Other than that, rooms seemed clean enough and the "hostel" is in a pretty good location.

Capital View

Two toilets for the entire place was a bit poor, and the general cleanliness of the hostel was shocking. There were hairballs in the showers and scum everywhere. When we arrived at the time I filled in that we would be arriving, the girl opened the door and said "you need a reservation" and tried to close the door in our face. No shoes are allowed on inside, which is bizarre for a hostel. Location is great for sightseeing and restaurants though. Extreme amount of rules were also listed.

hey there! We value our cleanliness most of all - and have professional cleaners using professional equipment to make sure that the place is super CLEAN.... It's unfortunate that you found the place in a disarray - maybe it was early in the morning, before the cleaners could get there.... Also, we have talked to all of the staff people, and no one has had such an experience - we like our guests and let them in with open hands (figuratively), Finally - no shoes - because we are so clean! Carpet is everywhere, it is professionally and normally cleaned constantly. Better yet... free slippers in about a month! thanks for your review!

AAE Universal Maingate

This hostel is clean and tidy, and the rooms are large. Wi-fi was pretty good, and there's air-con which is great! AAE Universal Maingate is in a great location for Universal Studios and they offer a shuttle service to Disneyworld. However, the amount of people waiting for the return shuttle from Disneyworld at 10:05pm saw people getting into fist fights in order to get onto the bus - this system needs to be reviewed (implement a booking/reservation system maybe?).

Artel Artistic Hostel

The hostel is in a great location, 5 minutes walk to Red Square, restaurants, etc, but it is above a bar which can get quite noisy. The staff are great though, and they all spoke English. Rooms are awesome, clean and modern, ensuite was handy too. There were still some renovations being carried out when I stayed there, which was annoying early in the morning, but I'd say leave it a month or two and it would be a wicked place to stay.

Great hostel! Close to city centre and train station, great kitchen and communal area. I had the single room which was on the top floor, awesome room, clean too. Great that they provided a towel and a bar of soap too...

Great location. Cleanliness lacking, ensuite bathroom in shared dorm smelt disgusting, and sheets weren't clean. Stuff got stolen from left baggage area too. Did the trick for a place to sleep, but not a great experience all up.

Can't comment on rooms in this hotel as they had given mine away by the time I arrived. Man on front desk suggested I sleep on the couch in the open reception as they didn't have another room left available. Down dodgy back street behind the train station too. Horrific.

I was put in another building seperate from the main Hostel building, but it was still clean, fun, spacious. Hostel had loads of seperate bathrooms too which was really good. Rooms all had small decks with big opening doors. Used my sleeping bag as the bed wasnt overly comfy.

Hostel is in a great area, close to restaurants, cafes, sights etc. Staff were always nice and on reception no matter the time. Walls are very thin though to other rooms...

Perfect location, clean and tidy room, clean bathroom, not too noisy. Had sink in room which was handy. Note that Florence has a weird house numbering system, and you want the black number not the red number. Would defo recommend staying here.

Beach Hostel

Split, Croatia

Considering it is called the Beach Hostel, we expected it to be on the beach. It is near the beach, but still a 10min walk. And it really isnĀ“t near the town, about 15mins to shops or restaurants. Staff were very nice and helpful, friendly too. Room was tidy and clean. One bathroom was still being done up, but was clean nonetheless. Good hostel is others closer to town are booked up.

On the beach huh? If I had a place on the beach, probably wouldn't have a hostel but... Called Beach Hostel cause our part of town is called Bacvice Beach, Split's most famous and popular sand beach. In the centre, steps from the water and numerous beach bars, yet only a 7 minute walk to the train, bus, ferry terminals, Old Town, Diocletian's Palace... Not a 10 minute walk to beach, but less than 1 minute. Walk out my front door and you are at the Hotel Park and beach. Check out a map. If it takes you longer than 1 minute, you stay for free! We look forward to your stay with us !

Great location, in a secure part of town just off the main plaza, clean room with air con, clean and seemingly brand new bathroom (amazing view out the shared bathroom window too!). Very handy to stay, def recommend this hostel.
