Student accom - each 'apartment' has 4 or 5 rooms, and a shared common kitchen. The bed is sized between a single and a double, and the room is very small - my partner and I had to squeeze past each other if we both moved at the same time! - however everything is clean and tidy. Location great - a short walk to fringe venues and close to lots of restaurants. Only negative is that the kitchen wasn't cleaned in the 4 nights we stayed - the same dirty dishes remained by the sink the whole time...
We had a double private. Location is in the old town but away from the main tourist/entertainment areas - only a 15min walk but a pain to get a tuk tuk or redcar from as there were hardly any in the area. The room was basic but ok, with an ensuite shower and toilet. Common area was great with lots of seats and tables - a nice place to hang out. Breakfast: tea, coffee, cardboard-like toast and jam available 24/7 but no other options for breakfast.
Great and stylish place! Our private double was very spacious - hotel quality - with a massive bathroom and great shower. The hostel is new so everything is nice and sparkling! Nice staff, good (if basic) breakfast. common area is ok with tables, a couch and 2 computers. Location is great - close to backpacker area but outside of the craziness, with lots of food options in the area and easy to flag down taxis. Recommended.
Nice guesthouse run by a very pleasant older couple. RIGHT in the middle of the backpacker district which is crazy busy, but the house is up a little alleyway so it's very quiet. Rooms are spacious and have ensuites, fridges, TVs. Small common area with couches, computers and free coffee.
For the price this is a great, great place. Recommended. Our double room was very spacious and clean, with an ensuite and a couch-such a bargain! Staff especially Alice were very friendly and helpful, welcoming us with a cold drink and watermelon was such a respite after the craziness of Hanoi! Yummy basic breakfast delivered to our room each morning of a roll, omelette, salad and tea/coffee. Only downside is lack of common areas to meet other traveller so this is best for couples not solos.
An absolutely charming little guesthouse right in the middle of the Gion district. The owner and family (including the cutest baby ever!) are very friendly and invited the guests out for a picnic on the river bank one night, which was a great way to soak up the atmosphere of this city. Very funky lounge area with cool antiques and jazz playing, a nice place to hangout after sightseeing. Dorm room was spacious and stylish. Very close to trains, convenience store, cafes/bars. Recommended.

Definitely a unique experience! Would not have wanted to stay more than 1 night, but recommend it as a fun thing to do once. Pros:space agey,toiletries/PJs/towels provided, central location, comfy capsules. Cons: staff not helpful, limited common area, limited room for bags-large bags have to be left on the lobby floor, not secure. Beware the directions-the department store given as a landmark is not obvious from the south side of the road in the dark-instead,turn@TeramachiDori which is a big arch
This was a great hostel in a cool little town. Very friendly staff, great common areas that help meet other travellers (try the kotatsu heated table - inspired!), good kitchen, and we had a lovely spacious private twin room on the top floor. The hostel has got a really good friendly vibe about it, and is in a great location close to the station and lots of food/drink options. Only bad points: no lift and 4 floors; showers only on ground floor; rental cycles are not good - go elsewhere for that.
We stayed in a japanese-style double, then a western-style twin private. The japanese-style room was absolutely tiny - it fit a double futon; limited floor space otherwise! - but really nice, with a little fridge, tea, kettle, etc. The western room was significantly larger. There was very little common area. The cycles for hire are great - semi-electric bikes made it so easy for us to get around all the sights around the city, definitely the way to go :-) Location is close to a subway station.
Amazing friendly staff meant that we really enjoyed staying in this hostel. We stayed a few nights in a private double room - very very basic with concrete walls and little space, but clean and tidy. we then moved to a dorm - great bunks with privacy curtains and individual lamps. Common areas were ok - the downstairs cafe/bar a great place to meet both locals and tourists. location on 2 subway lines very convenient.
This hostel was ok - pretty standard. The atmosphere is like staying in a student flat - comfortable but quite shabby. I stayed in a private room. It was on the lower, basement level, and had one small window to the outside. The room had a couch and TV. Nice and warm (important in Canada in April - it's still pretty cold!!) Towels are not included - they cost $2ea to hire. Good location - a few minutes walk from Byward Market but in a relatively quiet area, 3mins walk from supermarket.

A very good hostel. Great location about 2mins walk from the main Berri-UQAM metro station. Nice common area and bar. Calm but friendly atmosphere. We had private room with ensuite-quality was equivalent to a cheap/moderate hotel i.e. good bed, nice bathroom, TV, desk, mini fridge, daily servicing. The kitchen is quite small and doubles as the bar, so it's ok but not great if you want to self-cater dinner. Breakfast very carb heavy-croissants, toast, pancakes, muffins.

we stayed in a private room - it was basic but adequate and a good big size. The private room included daily cleaning, new towels, breakfast. Breakfast was great-toast, bagels, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, juice - and the common kitchen had everything you could want. quite a few families staying and a nice friendly atmosphere-dwfinitely not a party hostel (a good thing!!) Overall, I would.recommend this hostel as a good budget choice to stay in the old city of quebec.

I had a great time at this hostel - very friendly staff and good common areas create a really friendly environment, very easy to meet people. Nice and warm, great kitchen, great quiet location but def within walking distance of all sights.
Great hostel! The best I have stayed in. The staff are crazy but in a good way, super friendly and learn everyones names. Really easy to meet people, good breakfast, nice bright dorms, great common area. Like staying with a huge group of friends.
Very clean, new and well organised, location literally 1min walk from the Duomo ie centre of Florence. Amazingly spacious 2 level dorms feel more private than most hostels. Only bad points - you cannot self cater, and hugely excessive use of plastic cutlery and packaging at breakfast - not one for the environmentally conscious.
I loved my stay here, it was so friendly and chilled out. Great location on the Grand Canal very close to the train station, cool staff who made yummy pasta (thanks Gustavo), lovely dog - basically like a Venetian family for a few days. The girls dorm is all pink with a chandelier, very cool! Only downside is that the dorm was freezing, but apparently they are looking into this.
This hostel was ok, but does not deserve its current high rating... the dorms were spacious, ours had a nice terrace, and it is close to the beach. However, the staff were pretty average, hard to track down when you wanted them, and the common areas (lounge and kitchen) were messy and dark.
Despite it being cramped and busy, I had a fun time at this hostel! Good - amazing location right in the centre, casual friendly atmosphere, comfy beds, very easy to meet people due to the small size. Bad - noise from the common room at night is very loud in the dorm, tiny cramped dorm, very basic and small kitchen.
I wish I could give scores of 200% for everything! The best hostel I have ever stayed in - beautiful building and so stylishly decorated, great common areas that encourage relaxation and interaction, extremely clean, and amazing staff that make an effort to get to know all the guests. I felt completely at home - highly recommended.
Great place - as new, gourmet kitchen and amazing, large bathrooms, nicer than most hotels. Quiet spacious dorms, great common areas, location close to all nightlife. Not a party hostel but you only need to step out the door if you want that scene. Only suggestions are extremely minor - would be good to have communal basics in kitchen (oil, tea etc) and shower was not very hot, but obviously these are minor quibbles.
Great hostel - the cleanest I have ever been in, every time I looked they were cleaning something including dusting the pot plants! Huge bathrooms and dorms, nice common areas, very helpful staff, secure entry and lockers. Only negative is that there was a lot of road noise at night, as the hostel is on a major road.
Great place, loved it and could have easily stayed longer! The roof terrace was the best, great for hanging out and meeting people. Lovely staff, perfect location just 30 seconds walk from the old city. Only complaints would be that there was quite a lot of road noise at night and the bathroom (at least in the girls dorm) was small.
Good place - lovely outdoor areas, nice staff, great location in the middle of the old town. Only 2 complaints - bunks were very squeaky and limited common areas for when it was cold or rainy.
Great `place - right in the centre, nice rooms, and the night I was there the staff made a paella and sangria (very yummy they were too!) for only 6 euros. Only complaint is that it was a bit noisy.
Clean spacious dorms with good bathrooms and facilities. However lack of character, common areas are out-of-the-way and too small for the size of the hostel.
Very friendly little hostel. Steve the owner is extremely helpful, common area and kitchen is great. Dorms and bathrooms not flash but clean and adequate. Quiet group of people when I was there hence the average 'fun' rating.
