There is currently road work being done along pudong avenue, so the road leading to the hostel has been temporarily narrowed. Not the hostel's fault but something to be aware of as a nighttime stroll won't feel 100% safe with cars whizzing right by you. The hostel itself is pretty standard. Atmosphere and staff were pleasant. Unfortunately I got sick one day and discovered that they kept a pair of dogs chained up in the entrance throughout the day. The cockroach in my shoe wasn't great either.

Thanks for your comment! sorry for the construction of pudong Ave and your sickness! we walk the dog for some time everyday but cant play with her for the whole day ,so most of the time she is there alone (because we lost her brother last month :( ,only one dog left by now.) We will try our best to make this hostel better and better, hope to meet you again next time! Regards, Monica

I rarely give reviews over 90% but my stay at Kaiyue was phenomenal. The location was great, just off of Zhongshan road and within walking distance of the old city sights. Dorms were huge and well kept. Good atmosphere in the adjoining restaurant/bar with a pool table, foosball, music and movies. Can't say enough about the staff, in particular Gang and Frank. Best hostel I've been to in China.

They're still somewhere along the learning curve, but you can tell they've built themselves a solid foundation. At this point it appears they've prioritized the common/bar area over the dorms. The former is just fantastic. The latter, well, you sort of get what you pay for. Room didn't have a window, had poor circulation, and I was told I didn't need a key for the door. So far as I could tell the bathrooms weren't cleaned during my stay. So this really depends on your priorities as a tourist.

Bus took 45 minutes on the way there and 50 minutes back (to and from the Tai'an high speed train station)--listen for "Hongmen", get off and walk in the direction of the bus for a couple minutes until you see the bank of China on your right, then turn left up the hill. The location is far and away worth the long bus ride, especially if you plan on doing the midnight hike. Contrary to other posters, I thought the staff were very friendly. Only issue was our bathroom, which was never cleaned.

Really the only downside for me was the lack of (reasonably priced) laundry facilities. Otherwise my stay was fantastic. The staff here are wonderful.

Location isn't bad, though a little tricky to find upon arrival. Staff were mostly indifferent. Barely any heating in the common area, which is a downside and a half when it's snowing outside. Showers were a little disgusting, frankly, as was the thick layer of dust around the trim in the room. Door didn't work properly...in short I'd avoid this place for the facilities alone.

Staff very friendly and helpful. Great location. Only downside is the facilities, which are somewhat minimal. Overall, though, this is a good bet for budget travel.
