Hostel Blues

Bratislava, Slovakia

The staff go out of their way to make your trip enjoyable. I've never had so much personal attention and help with maps and things to do and see. There's a good amount of common space and a convenient bar with cheap drinks/snacks. Had some Brazilian roommates who treated the 8 bed room as if it was their own until 3 am, but overall the hostel was nice. Internet was a bit slow at times.

St Christophers Prague

Prague, Czech Republic

It apparent that this place was a hotel before it was a hostel. I stayed in an 8 bed, which was a pleasant place to sleep (no main light for people to wake you up in the middle of the night). Even though there's only one shower/toilet per room, there are plenty of restrooms on the main level. Internet was a bit unreliable.

Sophie's Hostel

Prague, Czech Republic

The 13 bed male I stayed in only had one shower/2 toilets shared between what looked like 2 more smaller rooms, which is ridiculous. Also, the way the room was arranged, with a table chairs in the middle, made for plenty of noise. I didn't see any common space for hanging out and meeting others as well.

Be Mar Hostel

Barcelona, Spain

Take earplugs if you're staying in the 16, which goes for most rooms of that size. One of the nicest things about this place was the abundance of facilities (showers/bathrooms). The common area was nice also, with plenty of tables.

A bit tight in the dorm I stayed in, but there was abundant space on rooftop to hang out and take the morning breakfast (toast/cereal). Location was great, and I enjoyed meeting a number of people from the hostel on the free walking tour (you should till tip) and pub crawl.

I stayed here for just over a week. For the first 5 days it was like summer camp with schoolchildren running the halls until midnight. Despite that, there is plenty of space to chill out, and the bar/cafe area is great for meeting fellow travelers. Iris will make you feel right at home at the bar!

HI Mid Bangkok

Bangkok, Thailand

The location was decent, but the cleanliness and facilities make this place a winner. The dorm room beds have their own personal space, so you're not just in a typical bunk. Good and quiet, too, for a good night's sleep before heading on a long plane flight back.
