Great price, nice garden, good free breakfast, drinking water provided, private room was nice, hot water. Pretty much all you could ask for. It is about a 10 minute walk to Thamel, which is nice in some ways and a bit annoying in others (dinner options are a good 15-20 minute walk through crazy streets). Overall real enjoyable stay, I recommend it.

Has a very good atmosphere for the young/fun traveler, including a cool bar and courtyard. The negative spectrum of that is it can be quite noisy for those wanting to sleep. If you have a room facing the courtyard, it will be very loud until about 1 am. It is supposed to be quiet time in the courtyard after 10pm, but it clearly is not enforced. Otherwise, our double room was very specious and clean. The staff is very friendly and super helpful. And everyone gets a free beer! Liked the hostel

The only one really good thing about this place is the price. It is dirt cheap. Staff is also friendly. The place itself is not very clean. There are mosquitoes everywhere (fortunately the bed nets are good). They constantly mismanage reservations (multiple people booked private rooms had to end up sharing). There is only 1 toilet and 1 shower for the 12 or so people staying there. Hot water is not on all the time and location is not very convenient. I would think there are better options.

Thanks for your feedback. Cleanliness is a top priority; we usually get great feedback but will continue to work on this. We manage each reservation carefully. If a guest books extra nights directly, we will assist even if the private rooms are unavailable- apologies for the mix-up during your stay. We have a toilet/bathroom in the additional bedroom outside & in the process of finishing another toilet/bathroom. Hot water runs 24/7- apologies if there was a temporary fault.

Place was OK. Good place if you want to meet up with other backpackers as has a bar and other useful amenities. Big negative is the shared bathroom. The toilet and shower are essentially outside and the sink is straight up outside. Fine for summer, but in winter it was literally freezing outside and I had to get ready in the morning and night outside in horrendous weather. Spend the money for a private bathroom (if they are inside).

The room you stayed was one of the outside rooms where two rooms share the bathroom facilities. Yes, the bathroom is outside the rooms but we have alternative enclosed bathrooms for the cabins on the opposite side that you could have used that is much warmer fore the colder months. These rooms are very popular in the warmer months as you mentioned. You could have also requested an inside room as soon as you made the reservation.

Decent hostel. Far from town, which is a hassle if you want to go into Reykjavik often, but fine if you are doing a lot of excursions/tours (they will pick you up). Staff was willing ot make calls for you and stuff but sometimes were less than helpful (didn't know if the one bus from the hostel was running on New years, whether museums/stores would be open, etc).
