Great hostel, great food - both Chinese and Western including real New Zealand cheddar cheese!!!!! great staff who were really helpful (they even advised us not to rent a scooter from them but from a place in town as they were better!) Dali is a gorgeous city and the hostel is just a few mins walk from the centre. Recommend the Bad Monkey bar, British owned, which also does a fab Sunday Roast cooked by the owners themselves :)
Comfy beds, right next to the lake but just a short walk to the town, free luggage storage for upto 7 days, friendly staff and awesome showers! I loved this place, the only thing was there wasnt much of a buzz as the communal areas are quite small compared to the hump hostel in town.
The hostel itself is ok, but it's quite far out of the main town centre, and the bus and train stations. The showers were basically a dribble and there was no hot water in the mornings (luke warm water at best) so you had to shower in the evenings. The bed was ok but the pillows were very thin. The other people in my dorm ( a monk, a lady and a child??!) were really noisy and broke the door to our room by cracking nuts open in the hinges! Luckily that was my last night there.
Seriously comfy beds!!! Wifi didnt work in my room, the bins (including the toilet paper bin) werent emptied everyday and the room was quite cold! Apart from that the staff were great, the Terracotta Warriors trip was excellent and it was a good place to meet people! Bar was pretty pricey and there was a fight between two Chinese guys whilst i was there but it was very well dealt with by one of the female bar staff...she was a warrior lol!!!
This hostel is really far out so u r totally dependant on the metro which stops at 2230! The atmosphere was really bad. The wifi (when it worked which wasnt often) only works in bar and reception so everyones on their phones instead of making friends. The staff were quite unhelpful and just didnt seem to care. It was new year and they didnt plan any events or even have cheap drinks on! The only suggestion they had-the Bund for the fireworks but that meant taxi home queueing with 50000 other ppl!
This is a brilliant hostel with a great atmosphere, as a single traveller i met loads of people!!! I really enjoyed the xmas party and the staff were great!! The only complaint was the womens showers for the dorms were really dirty and one of them was broken (literally hanging off the wall!) Also the hot water went off for a day but that wasnt the hostels fault!! Excellent hostel and i will be staying again for Chinese new year if i can get a train to Beijing (proving quite hard at the mo!!)
Need wifi in the rooms!!!
i dubbed this place bed bug inn! it was very unclean especially in the bedrooms where the carpet was filthy. bed bugs also lived on the sofas in the common areas. internet was expensive and my room was close to reception so very noisy. outside is also noisy with the trains and trams and the tv was broken!
