Books Hostel

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
97%

Had a great time even if it was quite noisy at times. It was a sociable place but not a 'party' hostel. The free evening activities were really good, we had a samba class and a cooking lesson, and if you want to be near the centre of Rio and in some nice places to eat and drink this is the place. Wifi was a bit sketchy at points but it was clean and the breakfast was good.

Paraty Central Hostel

Paraty, Brazil

The location is perfect- close to the bus station and in he centre of the old town. The beach is only a 15min walk away. This is great value for money, the breakfast was simple (bread, cheese and coffee) and mattresses weren't very comfy but the staff were lovely, showers warm and we'd recommend this place as a good budget option for Paraty.

A really lovely hostel with great breakfast and very clean rooms. A stones throw away from great places to eat and drink and a cool neighbourhood to stay in. The staff gave lots of recommendations for things to do depending on your length of stay and we enjoyed spending the weekend there.

Probably the best hostel we've stayed in. The breakfast was fresh and diverse, the staff were incredibly helpful and they gave us a lift to the lagoa bus station. The beaches are a short bus ride away. It was immaculate and the beds were comfy, the showers were great too. It was the perfect place to chill out. 100%. Stay here.

This was our second time staying here and we think it's one of the best hostels we've stayed in on our trip. The breakfast is great, the atmosphere and social areas are relaxed and welcoming, Nick and co are friendly, informative and helpful, the location is great and you're a short bus ride away from the falls. What more can you want?

A good location, 10 minutes walk from Miraflores 'centre'. David was incredibly friendly and helpful. We didn't try the breakfast as we had to leave early for a flight and only stayed one night but it had a good atmosphere and there seemed to be nice people staying there. Really excellent value for money and comfy beds!

The owner was really helpful and we organised our Nazca flight through them at a reasonable price. It's a humble hostel with a lovely roof terrace and a nice place to chill out in Nazca.

Hostal El Arcano

We arrived at 4.30am and they didn't have our booking but they put us in a room and were very accommodating. The place was clean and tidy and was in a great location but they didn't seem to have fixed prices for their rooms and asked us on more than one occasion what we were paying. Some paid half of what it says on Hostelworld and some paid somewhere in between. The wifi was good but they seemed to turn it off at night. They looked after our bags whilst we did the inca trail too.

The hostel was in a great location and Mike, the owner, was very welcoming. Although there weren't lockers in the dorms you needed a code to enter the building so it felt safe enough. Good wifi coverage, well equipped kitchen and a nice roof terrace. It was also super clean and the showers were great.

La Casona 1920

Iquique, Chile

The hostel was good. The beds were comfy and it was a good location. The front doors were always open and there weren't any locks for the rooms but there were decent lockers. We felt the staff could've given us a little tour of the hostel when we arrived so we knew where things were and perhaps told us some of the house rules (the kitchen was for staff only). However, when we asked them any questions they were very helpful and the courtyard was a great place to socialise. We'd recommend it.

A lovely hostel with excellent rooms and showers and breakfast. The staff were pleasant and we took the tour of the penguin island and Pancho our guide was very informative. A good place to stop in Ancud and it was located right opposite the Cruz del Sur bus station (although buses did stop at the main terminal first, which is 20mins walk away, wait till you get to the Cruz del Sur!)

Hostal Backpackers

Pucon, Chile

Well, we arrived and due to a mix up with the bookings we were taken to another hostel nearby, so the review of the 'character of the place' etc. is of Hotel Nora, the place that we were moved to. However the staff at Hostal Backpackers were incredibly helpful and pleasant and cheerful. So, Hostal Nora was great, clean and the location was excellent. Pucon was a nice little town to visit for a day or so.

Don Santiago Hostel

Santiago, Chile

We booked 3 nights but ended up staying a few more. Comfy, clean and the staff were excellent, very friendly and helpful. Good Metro links and although it was a little out of the downtown area it was still walkable, it took about 20mins or so, but it gave us the opportunity to explore Barrio Brazil. Check out Pepperone for excellent empanadas nearby to Plaza Brazil. Breakfast was great too!

We only stayed a couple of nights and we were aware that it was a little out of town but it wasn´t too far. However there was no reception and the staff weren´t very present, as far as we could tell. The rooms had lockers and a nice courtyard with clean bathroom facilities.

Loki Salta

Salta, Argentina

If anything it was very good value for money. beds were great as were the toilets and showers, however there were lots of flies, which made eating the free breakfast impossible. There were no lockers, but it didn't feel unsafe. The staff were helpful and friendly but tried a little too hard to have 'fun', so if you want to get drunk and party this is the place for you. The meals were actually very good and value for money, but don't expect to experience Salta by staying here (except the clubs!)

Hostel Independencia

Mendoza, Argentina
100%

We stayed for 5 days and the service was extremely friendly and very welcoming. The free wine hour helped to create a really social and warm atmosphere- the best we've experienced so far- without it turning into a 'party' hostel. We'd stay here again and really strongly recommend it to anyone going to Mendoza. Manuela and her girls (plus Martin and Diego who offer a great wine and bike tour) really care about the guests and that really important- keep it up ladies!

La Camorra Hostel

El Bolson, Argentina

We enjoyed our stay and the staff were very helpful with giving information about what to do in El Bolson and booking taxis. There weren't any lockers in the rooms but there was a general sense of safety as someone was always there. The garden was lovely and it was a really relaxed atmosphere. It was a little walk to get there from the bus stop but if you want to be out of the town centre it is an ideal spot!

It was a lovely place and Lorna and the others were very helpful. The kitchen was clean and user friendly too with a standard breakfast of bread and jam. One thing though, the house cat did come into the room a couple of times during the day (and night!) so make sure you close the door properly! However the location is brilliant and good value for money and well worth a visit.

We had an excellent time at Bossa Nova, Alan and the other staff were extremely welcoming and friendly, it was lovely and clean and the breakfast was good.
