perfect hostel- actually. best hostel i remember ever staying at. some extra touches: all bottom bunks have draw-curtains for privacy, electronic bracelet in place of a key card or physical key that also locks your personal locker, wide and comfy beds, VERY clean bathrooms, free and complete breakfast. it's basically everything a backpacker wants in a home away from home- THANK YOU for a wonderful stay!
when i arrived, there were a bunch of students that were staffed at the hostel as a part of a work-for-stay program. i don't think they were adequately trained and some of them didn't know what was going on. the security of the hostel itself is a little lax- the front gate is never locked and you don't even need to go through the front door to get access to the hostel itself. so i was always very diligent with locking up my personal locker. but the rest of my stay was great!
This is the only hostel in St. Andrews so I guess it has monopoly on the hostel market. But in general I found it was a great stay. Location was great and close by the bus station. I didn't love my bed because the mattress looked quite old and worn in- it pretty much sank into the bed frame. There were no lockers but that wasn't really a problem because everyone was really nice. The kitchen is well equipped and you can cook for yourself whenever.
everything was great about this hostel minus the location. i would advise you to take the bus instead of walking there with luggage/backpacks and all. the staff were great and knew a lot but i had trouble understanding the glasgow accent on some of them- lol! great ensuite rooms with under-bed storage lockers and very clean and modern bathrooms.
I really didn't like this hostel- probably more from personal cleanliness issues than anything else. The hostel is in a great location and the staff are great. My room didn't have a ladder for each of the bunk beds- yes the ladders come off the beds. The bathrooms are gross and look like bathrooms from a women's prison. There were curtain stalls within the bathroom, but you basically have no choice but to get naked and then jump in or risk getting mildew on your towel. I wouldn't stay again.
Great hostel aside from the location. But the location is no problem once you figure out the bus system. It's super clean and the staff are helpful. I'm staying at another hostel now because this one didn't have enough space for me, and I'm in a much worse position now! I wish I were staying at lighthouse for another night! The bathrooms are modern and clean but if you're not staying in an ensuite, you may need to wait a bit during the mornings to use the facilities.
this hostel was a bit out from the centre of the city. it's one train stop away from amsterdam centraal station- either a 15 minute bus ride away or a 5 minute train ride away. but other than that it's a great place to stay- it was pretty much a hostel with hotel features. great bathroom/shower, comfy beds, clean towels and sheets. great value for money!
GREAT HOSTEL! the owner is very well-travelled himself so it's great to chat with him. this hostel was 10 mins walk from the old town and even closer to shopping and other restaurants nearby. very secure, very clean, everything you would look for in a hostel, really. i suggest trying to get to this hostel during the daytime because trying to find it at night was a little bit of a struggle.
very modern and clean hostel in a central location. the staff wasn't the best and they seemed a little rude but maybe it was the italian accent that threw me off. the hostel isn't the BEST for meeting other travelers as the common area isn't very comfortable or conducive to socializing. but the rooms were great and the mattresses were very comfy. showers were warm with great water pressure. they have AC also which is fantastic for the summer. they also try to charge you for anything extra.
very centrally located, excellent staff, excellent atmosphere. bathrooms weren't as clean as i would've preferred but i dealt with it given the price of this place. the "pool" isn't really meant for swimming, i would say. and if you're coming here in the middle of the summer, be mindful that there is no AC and you may melt. the mattresses were like foam mats and they weren't even as wide as a standard single. so if you're bigger/taller, you may not be comfortable. the common area is the best!!
this hostel was in a good location close to the sacre coeur, but it's not too close to the eiffel tower and other tourist attractions. i thought the price was a little much considering i got a 3-bed mixed dorm ensuite, but i did book late and summer is the busy tourist season. the ammenities were great and this hostel had a/c, which is hard to find in paris- even in hotels! the staff were extremely helpful and spoke english very well.
the staff at this hostel are some of the friendliest ppl you'll meet. the hostel is in a great location and very close to the pier. i visited this hostel during their fall/winter and it was freezing. the staff gave me a little heater for my room but i was always shivering. the bathrooms are smaller than the average hostel, but definitely workable for the money you're paying. my experience overall would have definitely been better during the summer, otherwise it's a GREAT place to stay on budget.
great hostel. great staff. it's hard to see it from street level because the majority of the hostel is on the 2nd and 3rd floors. my only complaint about this hostel is that there is one women's bathroom and one men's bathroom...and if you're staying at a room at the other end of the hostel, you have to go all the way across to use the facilities. also the noise would be a bit much for an unseasoned hostel patron. make sure to bring your earplugs and eyemasks!
we got dropped off at the base of the hill that this hostel is on by a taxi driver, who claimed that there was no way for him to drop us off in front of the door. so we lugged our backpacks up several flights of stairs until we got to the door. its a great place to stay, even though we only spent one short night. free tea and coffee, and they gave us a lunchbox to go since we had an early flight and was going to miss the breakfast. a little on a pricier side, but we got a double ensuite.
First, this hostel is NOT 5 minutes away from the train station. It´s a solid 10-15 if you´re walking up the hill with a backpack. It was freezing in our room and we could never find the front desk guy when we needed. The place was a little dirty, very basic, and the shower was freezing cold so my friend and i didn´t shower at all. I dont know how this place compares to others, but you´re probably better off NOT making reservations and walking into a random hostel closer to the train.
the staff here are really friendly! my friend got food poisoning during the time we were in huacachina and the staff got us a driver to the nearby clinic in ica and the driver even stayed with us and translated a bit. the wireless in this place cuts in and out and is really only good if you're sitting right under the router. but otherwise i think our stay was great and would definitely recommend this hostel!
when i got to reception, there was a mix-up with my single ensuite room so they upgraded me to a double at no additional cost! the location is great- it's in a very backpacker-friendly area of town. the staff were also very welcoming. be careful about their tour and transportation prices though. they charge 70,000 rupiahs for a personal driver to/from the airport, but if you ask around the tour companies on the same alleyway as the hotel, it should only be 50,000 for a car and 30,000 for a moto.
this hotel was great and location was even better! it looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but the rooms were surprisingly spacious and clean. although it kind of has generic character. the staff were very helpful, and the free breakfast was good. the halls really echo though so you can hear every noise that the other guests make from outside.
this hotel was a little pricey for what it offered. the room was spacious but could've been a little cleaner. there was a dog nearby that would constantly bark throughout the night. free breakfast was good, and location was awesome. hoi an is a small city on it's own but the hotel's location made it great for walking around or to take a bike to the beach.
this is the best hotel i've stayed in in vietnam. the owners were always so welcoming and constantly offering you free snacks that fed more like meals. the hotel is full of character, and the owner can even cut your hair with 100-yr old vintage tools! it's kind of hidden away in an alley, but i actually liked that because it wasn't noisy at night at all. definitely recommend it!!
the staff at this hostel were great help. i had been corresponding with them via e-mail before i even got to hanoi and had my entire stay planned out, complete with tours and everything. the free breakfast is such an awesome bonus and there is a lot to choose from. the hostel itself was really generic and lacked character. plus there was no elevator so if you end up on the 5th floor like me then you had better be in good shape. location was great also. excellent value for money in the city.
despite what is advertized, the location of this guesthouse is not that great. it's close to the big temple on the tongue of the land, but i wished that it was closer to the night market. by the second day there it seemed to take forever to walk back. my room also smelled like a public urinal, but if you don't mind that or bring some air freshener, it's great value for money. really clean also. the staff are friendly and helpful.
this guesthouse is probably one of the best i've stayed in in SE asia. location was great, although difficult to find at first. the owner is so nice and helpful, and she knows a lot of people who can give you discounts on entrance fees and what not. the bathrooms were really clean all the time. it's a great place to meet other people and socialize. my only complaint would be that there aren't elevators and i stayed on the 4th floor. so it defintely required some exercise!
great hostel! the owner is hilarious and he's a local so he will give you a lot of insider tips. i had a great time at this hostel meeting other backpackers. the location was really central and gave good access to the subway and bus stations. i stayed in a 4-bed mixed dorm and found it a little cramped though. and then when i switched to a single ensuite i found that i had no hot water so i ended up boiling water and washing my hair in the sink =P
i stayed at this hostel in november and it was FREEZING COLD! like the entire place was cold. mthe restaurant was good and offered good value for money. i only stayed here as a way to access the longmen caves so i didn't explore a lot, but there isn't too much to do in luoyang. my room smelled a bit like a toliet but nothing too bad. i found that it was really loud also since it was right on a main street. but at least the rooms were cheap and the staff was great =)
excellent hostel!! great location close to the major sights in the city. the bathroom was a little small but that's fine for what you pay for. the restaurant had a great menu selection and was really really cheap! awesome place to meet other travelers.
this hostel is close to the JR train station, but the directions are a little confusing. it's not particularly close to the A-bomb dome but at least it's close to the tram station. the bunks were very spacious, although i found the bathrooms a little cramped, but that's common in japan so no particular complaints.
this guesthouse is pretty close to a homestay. the owner was great and really funny and easy to get along with. we had so much fun here and met a lot of other travellers. it's kind of difficult to find and it's a good 15 minute walk to the JR station, but overall we were very satisfied with our stay.
this hostel's location was a great selling point. the sights in kyoto are pretty scattered so it's good to be near the JR train station. the bunk beds were really spacious and even had a little storage unit for all your stuff. the common room is a great place to meet other travellers.
this guesthouse was really close to the sights in nara which was important to us. we stayed in a 4-bed female dorm and we have no complaints. the bathroom was very clean and spacious. excellent value for money.
this hotel was a little bit expensive for what it actually was, but great anyway by japanese standards. very clean, very close to the subway. the bathroom was tiny though but that's pretty common in japan. but otherwise the room was pretty spacious.
excellent hostel and great value for money in japan! awesome location close to the train station and ferry dock to miyajima island. the staff was hilarious and they even had a bbq outside for us! we stayed in a female dorm, but we just slept on mats in a big open room. it was fine though and we had big lockers for our stuff. i was glad that the top floor is female-only =) great place to meet other travellers.
excellent hostel. we stayed at a 4-bed female dorm . the staff was great and spoke excellent english- DON'T OVERLOOK this in korea!!! the location was close to the airport which is important. but otherwise you have to either take a taxi or a bus to the beaches or any of the sites on the island. the hostel is brand new and super clean also!
this hostel was at a great location to access the great wall at badaling. the other accomodation in the area were all hotels and i'm sure that they're overpriced. the owners were really nice and helpful. we had an excellent and spacious room. clean bathrooms too which is rare in china.
great hostel, great location. literally 5 minutes away from the square. the room was nice and big, although the bathroom could have been cleaner. but otherwise it was great value for money right in the heart of beijing.
the hostel has great character. location is not as close to the subway as they advertised, but close enough anyway. there is no elevator so if you have a room on the fourth floor then you have to walk up the stairs. i found the room to be very tiny...but the bathroom was great and very clean. the bathroom was the best part of my room.
the thing about this guesthouse that i loved was the owner. he really knows a lot about HK so you can ask him anything. the location is great- right in the heart of TST. the room wasn't too clean but it's excellent for what you're paying for, and considering that HK isn't the cleanest of cities overall.
i stayed here just one night because i had an early morning flight out of BKK. it's a pretty boring hostel and the accomodation is descent, but it's great location-wise to access the airport. i wouldn't recommend staying here for more than one night though, there isn't anything around the area.
this guesthouse offers great value for money. my single ensuite room was only $15/night!! the location is great too...very close to the night market. there isn't too much to do in siem reap, but it is close enough to angkor wat to use it as a jump off point.
great accomodation! you get your very own private bungalow + porch! the owner is really nice and she will try to help you with absolutely anything. i would definitely stay here again!!
