Good value for money but lacks atmosphere. Staff is lovely but found it rather difficult to get to know people travelling solo.

The Lazy Monkey Hostel, Zadar, Croatia

21st Jul 2017

Had a blast at the Lazy Monkey! Staff were fun, fellow travellers were chilled - super easy to meet people - and the beach was close. They close the bar/outside area at about 10 so people who want to stay in can have a quiet night while everyone else makes their way over to the Drunken Monkey. Good times :-) Would definitely come back! Do bear in mind it's not in the old town; however the bus station and a big supermarket are nearby.

Great location and good breakfast. Staff was friendly, rooms were spacious but not that much of a party hostel as they claim to be I thought. Met some nice people nonetheless!

I had a fantastic time! The staff are lovely, good crowd of fellow backpackers, almost felt like a family. They sometimes organise dinners which are both cheap and tasty, plus the breakfast is good too - I'm allergic to dairy and the staff even catered to it, which is something I don't usually expect. Probably not your typical hostal but exactly what I imagined to find in a surf town like Itacaré. Bit of a walk to the bus station however it's closer to the beaches. Would definitely come back!

Great facilities including plenty of showers and toilets plus a nice rooftop - however, there wasn't much going on there. Lots of groups, families and couples which made it hard to socialise when you're a solo traveller.

Had a fun night at the Purple Monkey - staff are great, nice rooftop bar (albeit it without a real view), quite easy to meet people, fair prices when it comes to beer :-) Really close to a massive Éxito supermarket and some restaurants which unfortunately are a bit on the pricey side...well it's Poblado... Didn't like the showers though and think the place could do with some more toilets.

Great location near the main square, very helpful staff, well-equipped kitchen, big enough dorms and colourful bathrooms (I mean that in a good way!). However, there wasn't much going on, ie kinda hard to socialise despite having a lounge and stuff. Also thought the whole house was a bit chilly and damp. Plus someone took my beach towel :-(

Cool thing about this place is that it used to be an old drug lord's mansion so it's quite spread out. Lounge with Netflix and pool area are great. Staff is lovely, especially the guys behind the bar. Not a place to actually meet people, though, as most people got here as a group. A lot of activities mentioned online never took place. Our dorm was super noisy, so hard to get some rest. We stayed at the Ushuva one which is just a hallway with beds open towards the pool and leading to other rooms.

Absolutely chilled out place! Nice pool, sunbeds, bar (which should open much earlier than 5 btw), and those huts are a really nice touch. Almost feels more like a resort than a hostel. Only 2 mins to the beach and 10 mins to the main road. Also close to restaurants and little shops. Beds came with mosquito nets.

Good location and nice staff; however, it's one of the bigger hostels so can sometimes be difficult to connect with fellow travellers. Breakfast was quite underwhelming with only one pancake and coffee - seen way better ones in Colombia.

Great vibe at the hostel, felt like a family! The owners would join us on a night out every now and then which is pretty cool. Met great fellow travellers as well! Only downside if you like is the location as it's quite a bit of a walk into the centre. Supermarkets and a few places to get a snack are not too far, though. Overall really enjoyed staying here a lot :-)

Ok for one night but would've expected a cleaner place for what I paid. One guy in my dorm had ants all over his bed while mine was ok. However, they serve breakfast which is decent by Laos standards.

The receptionist was so friendly and helpful! Rooms and bathrooms were spotlessly clean and tidy. The night market is closeby plus lots of shops and places to eat. It's not a party hostel which is quite refreshing in an intense city like Bangkok. Would definitely stay here again.

The hostel itself was really good: clean, friendly staff, nice backyard, kitchen facilities, wifi, bar etc. The only thing I disliked was the location. Although it's close to the central train station and takes only some 15 minutes to the Old Port, the area is rather dodgy. We were a group of 6, so it was ok, but I wouldn't like to walk around there all by myself, especially not during nights. There's another Vertigo hostel close to the Old Port with a way better neighbourhood.
