Bodega Phuket Party Hostel, Phuket, Thailand
10.0
10th Mar 2017

Had a great stay in Phuket thanks to Bodega and the people there. The location is fantastic - just 5 to 10 minutes walk from the beach and just around the corner from the mall and night market. Atmosphere was fairly chilled most nights but it was always easy to meet people and the owner Dain was really friendly and helped with whatever I needed. Do question about where I will stay if I'm ever in Phuket again.

Backpackers' Planet, Yilan, Taiwan China

8th May 2015

I booked this place mainly because it was the cheapest option but it turned out to be one of the best hostels I've stayed at in Taiwan. It's a small place and in the week there weren't many other guests but the hostel is in good condition and the beds are the biggest I've slept on in any hostel! The hostel is just outside Luodong town, which itself is great, and everything is accessible by bike (provided) or scooter. The owner Jeams is also great, very friendly and speaks good English.

Black Bear Hostel, Hualien, Taiwan China

27th Apr 2015

I booked this place because it was the cheapest in Hualien so wasn't expecting much but ended up extending. It can a very quiet place during the week but packs up during the weekend where it can feel too crowded. There's a good atmosphere thanks to a number of work exchange people that are staying there. Only major downside is the location as there's not much to do or eat nearby; for anyone using the train or bus a lot to visit places nearby then this isn't a problem as the station is nearby.

Meander Taipei Hostel - Ximending, Taipei, Taiwan China
10.0
18th Feb 2015

A great hostel in the Ximen area of Taipei. One of the largest common areas I've seen in any hostel, very friendly staff, good facilities, free tours, movie nights etc. Some nights they even had free food and alcohol! Ximen area itself is cool, with a lot of indy type shops and some good local food; the nearsest MTR station is a 5-10 min walk from the hostel. Would definitely stay again if I'm back in Taipei

The quality of the room was one of the best I've ever stayed in for a hostel and the location is great. Only downside is that the common space is on the roof upstairs - not ideal in the winter, although Shanghai itself isn't the best place to go in the winter.

Hong Kong Hostel, Hong Kong, Hong Kong China

I've stayed in this chain of hostels every time I've been to Hong Kong. Location is great and the price is good as far as hostels in Hong Kong go. Common room is small but it's a sociable place. Only real downside this time was the wifi: absolutely no connection in the room and the connection in the common area was rarely working properly.

My second stay at this hostel. Not much had changed in 2 years and it's still a fun place to be. Good location near Nanjing road, friendly staff, nice communcal spaces and always a fun crowd.

Suzhou Watertown Hostel, Suzhou, China

A relaxing hostel in downtown Suzhou. It's not the best location for seeing the sites but everything can be reached by a short bike ride. The hostel courtyard and common room are both nice and there's a huge selection of DVDs to watch. Staff are friendly and the food and drinks are reasonable.

Comfort Hostel HK, Hong Kong, Hong Kong China

By Hong Kong standards you won't find a better hostel and this price. The type of facilities you get seems to depend on which building you end up in but on my first stay there was a TV in the dorm room and the second stay had a kitchen unit attached to the room. Not the most sociable or friendly place but then Hong Kong isn't Thailand.

Serendipity Beach Hostel, Sihanoukville, Cambodia
5.4
8th Jun 2014

Despite the good location and decent restaurant/bar, if you're looking for a dorm on Serendipity Beach I would find it difficult to recommend this place. The beds in the dorm wobble and squeak at the slightest touch and there might as well not be a matress on top. The building work going on at the moment means you'll be awake from 8am too. Considering the price I would look elsewhere for accommodation and use the bar here instead.

Mad Monkey Phnom Penh, Phnom Penh, Cambodia
7.4
4th Jun 2014

Standard "Party hostel" in the south of downtown Phnom Penh. Don't come here if you're expecting to sleep before 12 or want to have a quiet drink with fellow travellers. For the money the facilities are a bit basic (only 2 bathrooms in the large dorm, toilets are a bit grimy) and the location is quite far from anything in Phnom Penh city. Chances are you will know if this is the place for you so those looking to party with a bunch of ~20 year olds will feel right at home.

The Siem Reap Hostel, Siem Reap, Cambodia
8.9
1st Jun 2014

Really enjoyed the hostel itself as the rooms were nice, bar/restaurant was good (50p beers) and it has a pool. Strangely though there isn't much atmoshpere in the place and the bar was often dead by around 9pm. Location is slightly further out from Pub Street and the market than other hostels but Siem Reap is so small this isn't really an issue. If socialising or partying isn't an issue for you then this place is perfect.

Hi, thanks for the kind remarks. We had some huge nights at the bar during your stay - I'm not sure how you missed out. Please check the many other comments about how easy it is to meet people here! That said, we don't claim to be a full on party hostel & we like it that way... The markets are exactly 350m from our front door. Pub St only 100m further on which is about as close as you can be to still get a good night's sleep when you need it. All the Best! :-)

Booked for 2 nights but ended up staying for 5 or 6. Awesome hostel with awesome people and very helpful/friendly staff. Not a party hostel but definitely sociable and very lively. It's easy to find people in the hostel and party at one of the bars in town if that's what you're after.

A clean, modern hostel in a quieter area of Hanoi's Old Quarter. If you're looking for a more livelier place then Hanoi Backpackers on Ma May is the better option but there's still a large crowd here too. The food, drink and tours are all overpriced but they can save you a lot of effort and the Hanoi Bay tour was a great experience.

The staff here were very friendly and enthusiastic and their English was good compared to other hostels. The only minor downsides were the slightly expensive food and drink and that there was only 1 working computer in the whole hostel.

A fairly generic hostel that ticks all the main boxes. The location is good for getting to the beach and although there's not much of a common area, the bar next door is a good way to meet people. The place could have done with some more computers and an extra shower in the large dorm.

The staff here were very friendly and even remembered each customer's name! The 8 bed dorm is a decent size and although no one really uses the common room the dorm balcony is a good place to socialise. The location is good - right in the backpacker district - and the hostel offer a good range of tours and trips.
