Orange Village Hostel

San Francisco, USA

In August SF is crazy expensive, so for someone on a budget this hostel offers a pretty good location (bearing in mind that it's on O'Farrell, the southern most street you want to go to avoid the Tenderloin crack crowds). The breakfast consisted of coffee and orange juice, with some waffle mix that you can use and some cereal. Not exactly a lot of choice. There are better hostels (and cheaper) in Downtown, but they fill up pretty quickly, and this is a decent alternative for a couple of nights.

Belfast International Youth Hostel

Belfast, Northern Ireland

Belfast is not a very big city, so it's quite centrally located, just a 10 minute walk to the Europa Bus Centre and train station. It's right by Sandy Row, one of the protestant neighborhoods. Has some pubs, nightclubs and restaurants around. Our room had a funky smell and we had to shove toilet paper on the sink drain in order to kind of stop it. Also smelled of cigarettes, probably because on the back there's a smoking area for a nightclub. Breakfast is ok but not included.

Glen Guesthouse

Dublin, Ireland

It's on Gardiner Street Lower, meaning it's located on the North side of town, close to the center and everything else. The rooms are clean and warm, TV on the room is nice, bathroom is very good too. Breakfast was great, you get a choice of full Irish breakfast or scrambled eggs, and also continental breakfast, coffee, tea, juice, bread, etc. The only downside is the wifi which is only available on the reception area, which is tiny and has only 4 chairs. Other than that, it's a very good place.

Paddy's Palace Dublin

Dublin, Ireland

It's nicely located and you can access several tours. There's no wifi on the rooms, only on the reception area and sometimes it's spotty, you need to keep asking the staff to reboot the router. Other than that, can't complain about much else, there aren't many bathrooms and on our first day one of the bathrooms had a toilet clogged and there was a mess. Rooms are hot and breakfast is nice, consisting of toast, jam, butter, milk, coffee, juice. There's also a free luggage room.

Barnacles Temple Bar House

Dublin, Ireland

Very good hostel, quite cheap and brilliantly located in Temple Bar, in the heart of Dublin, you can practicably walk everywhere in the city from here in 20 minutes at the most. Staff are friendly and helpful, and you'll meet lots of people.

Locanda Daniel

Florence, Italy

Great location less than 10 minutes by foot to the SMN train station and 2 minutes from the old market and the start of the central area with the Medici Capel and other sightseeing attractions. We got the room with the view of the cathedral dome, which was great and the facilities were quiet and clean. It was a little hard to find at the beginning because of the odd numbering of Florence buildings and the fact that we didn't had the front door code and it was raining, other than all good.

A Casa di Giulia

Verona, Italy

Giulia was a wonderful host, letting us in before the check in time, so that we could leave our bags and visit Verona during the morning before coming in again to the house. She gave us great tips, maps and made our stay wonderfully pleasant. The house is very nice and located in a quiet area, meaning that you have to walk 10 minutes to the main road where you can get a bus to the main train station, and it's a 15 minute walk to the city center. Definitely a great place to stay in Verona.

Scream House

Milan, Italy

The staff was always smoking and the rooms smelled like smoke. The doors to the dorms were always open and there was no lock on the doors. The bathroom didn't have any place to put clothes or anything for that matter. It was near a subway station close to the train station but still a 25 minute walk to the Milano Centrale. The blankets were smelly and the covers were not in any way very clean.

It's located really far away from the city, near a highway...other than that it's fine

Hotel Jorgensen

Copenhagen, Denmark

Quite central location, cheap for danish standards, nice breakfast included!

Rotterdam, Netherlands

It's really cheap and close to the train station but be warned that it's like a barracks with 100+ beds in the same space so bring earplugs and your own bedsheets/sleeping bag.

Adelaide Hostel and Hotel

San Francisco, USA

Hostel Rynek 7

Krakow, Poland

Very good hostel for a very low price, but a little bit off center

Amadeus Hostel Berlin

Berlin, Germany

Nice cheap hostel friendly staff but a little far from the center of the city, although it has u-bahn right in front.
