Sydney Hostel - highly recommended! Our room had an ensuite shower and little balcony with a view to the sea over rooftops. It's 3 mins from the Blue Mosque and a tram stop to get to the 'new' town. The staff are really friendly and helpful, and it's incredible value for money. Nice roof terrace too. Yes, the shower leaked a bit but that really didnt matter. Tip: take ear plugs; it's an old building so you can hear any noise from the other rooms, and it's on a lively street.

Friendly, helpful landlord and relaxed atmosphere . A lovely flat with large rooms and access to shared kitchen and two bathrooms. There's even a hairdryer... Amazingly central but quiet location, 10 mins walk from Brandenburg Tor, near museums district. There is not much around it by way of nightlife or restaurants, but in Berlin that doesn't matter - you can be in Friedrichshain or Prenzlauer Berg in 20 minutes and still get back late at night. Brilliant!

Fantastic location 2 mins' walk from Rialto bridge, yet on a quiet street. Follow the directions they give, not Google maps! Our room was big, clean and comfortable and the staff very friendly. Slight downsides: the shower's not great, there's only one bathroom, and breakfast is ok but a bit synthetic; those were more than balanced by the good price. I was a bit disconcerted that our room was left unlocked, but nothing untoward happened. All in all, an ideal place for those on a budget.

A very clean and well kept, organised site; if you are using it as a base for visiting Venice by bus, keep an eye on the evening timetable, as they stop quite early most of the year and you wouldn't want to walk it from Mestre. The site is rather noisy at night as there is an open air club and it's popular with young people. The facilities are good though.
