I only stayed one night...it was ok. Wifi was very temperamental in the top room where I was staying. Room was tiny. At first I was the only person in the room so I got a pick of beds but only one of them actually seemed clean and ready for someone to sleep in. Breakfast was decent.

LOVE El Rio! One of the two best hostels we stayed at on our entire 5 month trip. Just perfect. We booked for 2 days and ended up staying 6 - and only left because we had to catch our flight home 😔 Fantastic setting, delicious meals, no shortage of things to do, and honestly so nice to actually disconnect - I am all for the lack of wifi! Thank you so much for a wonderful stay!

It was so swelteringly hot when we were here that we spent almost the entire time in the hostel trying to stay cool..so it wasn't ideal that the pool was out of service for a full 24 hours. The place was nice enough and the staff were nice but the place seemed to attract a party crowd who were completely out of it most of the time. Also there was a ham and cheese sandwich for breakfast one day and when asked for no ham, they simply took the ham out rather than making a new sandwich...

Loved this place! Great common areas, comfortable beds, good location. Staff very helpful and friendly. Breakfast is really cute as you get your own personalised plate. Only thing I would say is that it's a little bit on the small side...I was still hungry afterwards.

This is a gorgeous hostel which actually feels more like a hotel. Very comfortable, proper mattresses, nice common areas. We had quite a chilled stay here but that was what we were looking for.

I don't often hand out full marks but literally cannot complain about this place. So lovely and homely - great breakfast, facilities second to none, comfy beds, good wifi, Netflix, common areas galore, helpful staff..etc etc Thank you!

We loved Greenhouse! Serge is so helpful and hilarious! The beds were comfy, wifi worked great, showers were hot (but make sure you shower quickly and before 9:30 in the morning), great location, great fresh crusty bread rolls for breakfast, nice common areas and so on. Also staff were very kind when one of us had food poisoning. Thanks for a lovely stay from Juliet & Neelam :)

I got a nasty bout of food poisoning while staying in Sucre and the staff at Colors House were so kind to me - thank you for that! That aside, the hostel was nice, they did a good breakfast (for minimal extra cost), beds were comfy and showers were hot.

No complaints really - hot showers, kitchen, living area and tv, good breakfast. We stayed in a private room and the bed was comfortable, but they did tell us that he heaters only get turned on in winter (it felt like winter!) so we were cold in the room at night. Also they enforce arbitrary fees if you want to hang around or have a shower after check out time which I think is unreasonable - we've already paid a premium (hostels in Uyuni aren't cheap!) you could at least allow us to hang around.

This isn't really a hostel as the name suggests, so the atmosphere wasn't really what we were looking for - it's not a place to meet people. Breakfast was good and there were hot showers, comfy beds and warm rooms. There is no kitchen which is not great - would be nice to be able to make a cup of tea.

There was something about this place we just didn't really like. The staff weren't particularly helpful - one of them was quite rude - I believe they lived there but if you live in a hostel you should have a certain level of tolerance towards guests! Depending on where your room is the bathrooms are a freezing cold trek away if you get up in the night. Kitchen is tiny and floods when you run the sink to wash up. Breakfast was ok and showers were hot. There are MUCH cheaper places in San Pedro.

Dario and Juliet (the owners) are amazing! So warm, friendly and helpful. They really go out of their way to help and bring people together. The hostel is fantastic, with lots of common areas for socialising. Breakfast is great - boiled eggs, cereal, bread, and various spreads...including dulce de leche 😍 The bathroom facilities while old are functional and the showers are hot. The hostel overall is cleaned very regularly and feels very clean. Oh, and there's a roof terrace an adorable puppy!

Poramba Hostel, Puerto Iguazu, Argentina

3rd Apr 2017

Picked this hostel out of the slim pickings in Puerto Iguazú. Sorry to say that the cleanliness massively let the place down. The location is good, near the bus station. The staff are friendly and there is a pool, hammocks etc which makes for a nice environment, but the bathroom in our 6 bed dorm was frankly disgusting. We only stayed one night and were there for a minimal amount of time but the overall impression was not good at all.

Checked in late and the reception guy was nice. Our room was through the courtyard and upstairs and had a strange smell, and you had to go downstairs to use the bathroom which is inconvenient especially if you need to use the bathroom during the night. The room was too small to be a 6 bed dorm. The breakfast was shocking - 2 slices of bread left at 8:30am (an hour before breakfast finished), and when we asked for the milk to be refilled we were told none was left. Dogs are great. Location good.

Casa Viva Paraty, Paraty, Brazil

25th Mar 2017

Casa Viva was a lovely, chilled out place to stay in beautiful surroundings. The hostel was not very busy when we were there but it didn't really matter as there was a group of us. It is not high season and we were staying midweek which may also explain why it was a bit quiet. The pool and garden are amazing, the owner and staff are friendly and helpful, and the breakfast is great. We loved our stay. Our room (5) was a little small for a six bed dorm, and could do with individual bedside lights.

We initially booked for two days but didn't leave for a week, and even then only because we had to move on and meet a friend. I can honestly say this is the best hostel I've ever stayed in - so much thought has been put into the design and running of it. The staff are amazing, the breakfast is incredible and varied, with homemade cake among other things, and all of this results in happy guests and a great vibe. Thank you so much to everyone who made our stay so memorable 💙
