Lovely hostel with very helpful and friendly staff. The walls in the room were a little thin but otherwise the room, and toilets etc, were very clean. Thank you!

Lovely hostel with great location and really helpful staff. Also very clean. Only downside is the tiny kitchen. A tip for other travelers: take the bikes for a test run before hiring, some are a little stiff.

Hostel was adequate but a bit ghetto. I wouldn't stay again, there's got to be better places near by. The bathrooms need a serious scrub and airing as do the bedrooms (lots and lots of dust under the beds). Our sheet was also ripped in a number of places and the door handle felt like it would fall off any moment (along with the worlds most basic lock). On the plus side the location is good and the staff were helpful and provided an excellent map. The BBQ was also excellent.

Loved it! Ended up staying almost 2 weeks (rather than 3 days). Between the excellent breakfast, free wine and free laundry this place is unbelievable value for money! The rooms at the front (8 bed dorm, 3 bed dorm and 4 bed dorm en suite) are by the road and so quite noisy by the other rooms also I stayed in where great! Staff were really helpful and the guinea pigs so cute! Thanks for a lovely time!

El Retorno Traveller's Hostel

Lovely hostel with more of a hotel vibe. Very quiet when we were there but that's exactly what I wanted. The staff gave us a great overview of the excursion options and was very frank and honest about the possibility of us actually seeing many animals at this time of year. There only seemed to be one toilet per gender so maybe if it was busier that would have been an issue. Would stay again.

Nice hostel with good vibe. Slight confusion over the price of the vegetarian BBQ/Asado but that was resolved. Great overview of the excursion options. One point of note for fellow travelers - bizarrely if you want to extend your stay in the dorms it's cheaper to do so via hostelworld then to do so at the reception desk! Strange. Also despite the HOLA signs they're no longer a member so don't expect 10% discount.

Really lovely hostel, very quiet when we were there but that's just what we wanted! Double en suite room was lovely and large and very comfy. Staff were extremely helpful. Only downside is the 14 block walk to the bus station, not a big problem really but it was a little further than expected. It's right next to the town centre though. Really lovely place, wish we'd had time to stay longer. Thank you!

Really beautiful hostel with sturdy and comfy beds and lovely communal areas. Would definitely recommend staying here but not at peak times. Two recommendations - provide people with keys for both the kitchen and reception buildings either that or provide dorm keys (just being able to lock the front gate isn't enough security especially when there's no lockers), secondly more toilets & showers are required and the cold shower needs fixing (I head one staff mention it's been broken for months).

A nice enough hostel but very quiet and staff aren't overly engaging when they're around. Very strong smell of air freshener which made me wonder what it was covering up. Nice big rooms and hot showers although they don't drain very well and probably need their pipes clearing. Located on bar street but not too close so it's not so loud. OK for a short stay but seriously lacks soul.

It's an OK hostel but not worth the price. Despite begging staff for the first free room (we'd spent all night at the airport waiting for the bus) there was apparently no way we could check in until after 2pm (=6 more hours waiting to check-in). Our room was small but OK, bathroom had lots of obvious hair in the sink. The next morning we were told to move rooms but they weren't sure where to ("wait in room 1hr"). Eventually they gave me key to an already occupied room - a bit of a farce really.

Really lovely hostel - immaculately clean, huge rooms, lots of local information readily available and generally beautiful in every way. Really can't understand why more people weren't staying there - it's only a 10 min walk to the center of town and it felt more like a 3/4 star hotel (albeit with share bathroom) rather than a hostel. Owner also gave us an excellent restaurant recommendation that we'd have never have found left to our own devices. Thank you!

Loved it here! Neill and his wife were so welcoming & their property is stunning - amazing grounds and stunning views of Flores island itself. Breakfast is even served until noon and if you're taking an early Tikal trip they even provide sandwiches instead! I was a tad worried about the need to take a boat each time I wanted to go onto Flores island but it was easy, quick & cheap - no problem! It's also walking distance to a beautiful beach and look-out which not many people seem to know about.

Nice enough hostel & owners are friendly but it's disorganized and with some minor changes could be a lot better (empty the toilet paper bin daily, make sure rooms are cleared and clean before giving them to new people (my bed had earrings on it and the floor was covered in thick dust)), bin the bike locks that don't work and write down the codes for the ones that do etc) it could be great. Breakfast is really good though and free bike rental is appreciated given its out of town location.

I've had some good breakfasts in Mexico but this topped them all by far! I'd stay there for the breakfast alone - I'd go to be eager to get up to eat it! Room was small-ish but very clean, bathrooms where excellent although lacking hot water one day. Staff gave us loads of fruit on the way out which was a welcome surprise. Would definitely recommend this place. The excellent location is a bonus rather than the selling point (and how often do you hear that??)

Such a lovely family home! We booked for 3 days but stayed for 10 on account of us both getting a stomach bug. This was the perfect place to recover - quiet, relaxing, kind staff. Would definitely recommend this place especially for people who need a short break from more traditionally social and larger hostels/dorms. Only recommendation would be to fix the lock on the bathroom door as not all guests use the sign to indicate that they're in there.

Really lovely hostel with a good mix of people (some gap year backpackers, some maturer couples and everything in between). Lovely relaxed communal areas! Staff were helpful and breakfast was great. A couple of small recommendations though...almost every morning there seemed to be people arriving around 7am and would ring the doorbell until staff let them in when reception opened at 8 - maybe open reception earlier? Also everyone was queued for breakfast at 8.30 - maybe start it earlier too?

Staff were really helpful and location is great. Staff provided us with a really great map which also contained plenty of self-help info on the local area (to save us having to ask them for every little thing). Room was big and clean. A little nosy as there was construction across the road and other guests sat and chatted on the sofas outside the rooms instead of using the upstairs common area. Breakfast was lovely and there's even an English book swap! Would definitely recommend!

As a 1 night stop over it was perfect as it was close to the airport (exactly what we wanted). Seems to have a mix of one-night airport goers & long-term locals who are for whatever reason needing somewhere to live in-between homes. Kitchen was big and well equipped, lounge good but tattered furniture. Rooms were small, worn and in need of some airing. If you're staying overnight waiting for a flight I'd advise to arrive late, go out for food and then go to the airport as soon as check-in opens!

Nice enough place with a nice vibe in the internet area. 5 floors up with no lift was a little tedious with our heavy bags but it was mentioned in other reviews so didn't come as a surprise. I'm pretty sure our room for 2 was just a room for 1 but with an extra bed/mat in it (the room was so small we couldn't actually lay both mats next to each other without overlap and our bags had to be wedged in the doorway. Next time we'd book 2 single rooms (same price) and use one for our bags!

Hostel was pretty much as expected having read other reviews...dorm is 5 mins walk from reception, staff are at reception so you're much left to your own devices. Pros - clean, free laundry, welcome pack. Cons - lack of staff and common room proximity makes it a little lonely and lacking vibe. Location is good in terms of the buses you're able to catch to the major tourists attractions but it's a little far from the train station and good food requires you to wander around a little. Big common area (although it gets particularly hot during the day!). Room was nice and big. Bathroom could have done with an extra scrub. Nirwana Beach Club, Bintan

If you like purpose built resorts & don't mind paying a premium for everything this place would be lovely. We stayed in the beach huts which were quite charming as was the setting. The immediate beach area was spotless but as you wandered to the far corners it was pretty disgusting. The resorts take over the top corner of the island and they charge 110 SGD to take you by car to either of the local towns which sound like they're not overly exciting. Meant to stay 3 days but came home after 1.

AMAZING place, well located with so many beautiful sites very close by. Great character and charm and lovely downstairs seating area. Loos and shower upstairs were spotless. Fruit and toast at breakfast an added bonus. Only negative was that the walls were thin and you could hear through the floors, having said that it didn't bother me that much as it added to the charm. Really stunning hostel with excellent quality beds :)

I read the previous reviews and despite them not being great being and a distinct lack of pictures I booked anyway drawn by the loctaion - what I didn't realise was that 3m from the shore means that water is splashing up through the decking outside your bedroom door which incidently opens right onto the bar (so no privacy). Bed not made, linin dirty, no towels or loo roll, pile of junk mail on table and disgusting bathroom with cockroaches - we left immediately and stayed next door for less! EEW

Lovely new clean hostel! It's located a couple of streets back from the bustling market so you get the benefit of being close without all the noise. Really helpful staff and lovely seating/eating area with magasines, games and TV. Only one shower/loo per gender but only had to wait once so that's fine and always spotlessly clean - would definately stay again! THANK YOU!

Staff were friendly, kitchens and rooms really clean and large enough for all. Not many toilets/showers at all but only had to wait once so wasn't really a problem. Would recommend the 6bed dorms over the 16bed ones. Would definately stay again.
