Very small rooms with no cupboards, coat hangers or anything to put your stuff away. Smelly bathrooms and hallway. Self-catering kitchen could be better looked after to. Causeway cafe was nice though.
I'm submitting this review on behalf of my parents who were absolutely lyrical about this place: dream location, very clean and excellent staff.

Good hostel... Excellent facilities , staff and location: shame about all the extras (wifi, evening sauna, breakfast,... )
We appreciate the staff's efforts to create a quiet and troublefree stay for their guests, however the standards did not always meet our expectations...

Although all in all this isn't too bad a hostel: location is ideal, facilities are okay, relatively clean - we didn't quite feel at home. Staff weren't particularly helpful at times . Security of the luggage room is a shambles: too many guests have to use it (because check in time isn't until 2 PM) meaning anyone can just take whatever they want from your bags. We didn't like the chewing gum we found in our bed nor the extra money the hostel charged to phone the airport shuttle.
Value for money: yes, but I'm afraid only because it's probably one of the cheapest hostels in the UK. Certainly the bathrooms could do with a little maintenance: bathroom floors are very dirty, there's mold on the walls, no decent shower mats (rather a dirty old towel) and some showers are simply not working. Dorm beds are all of different size and quality (which can be inconvenient when you end up with the worst bed of the room). A final suggestion: nightlights in the shared rooms!
Everything as can be expected of hotel standards so no real shortcommings. We did have a small problem with noise though. The basement floor caters a bar ( / club) which is also open to people who are not staying in the hotel which didn't always agree with a good night's sleep.
Situated in a very nice building. Location is very good as well. In theory it's not difficult to find the hostel, however, if you come by car using SAT NAV it's worth knowing in which district of Budapest Aquarium hostel is located as it doesn't say on the address description and there are several identical street names in the whole of Budapest. A few drawbacks we came about were the bathroom floors which weren’t very clean and there being no hot water in the shower.
Great host. Good location. Very spacious airconditioned room. Building has lots of character. Basically everything was to satisfaction. (bathroom floor got a little dirty after one day's use but that's probably because you have to share it with so many different people).
A great stay. Location is ideal. Room was excellent. Host is very kind. Everything to satisfaction. One issue though, there's quite a lot of noise during the night since the hostel is located in the heart of the party district (but bring ear plugs and you're fine).
All in all this isn't too bad a hostel. In fact you get good value for money but the staff are constantly complaining about everything (other guests included which is quite uncomfortable). The place is littered with signs telling you what you can and cannot do and worst of all there is a lot of noise during the night (which we discovered the staff was responsible for as well). Finally, driving and parking around the hostel is an absolute nightmare. If you come by car, find lodgings elsewhere.
Very kind and welcoming family, make you feel at home. Location is excellent. Very clean as well. We,re definitely coming back!

very satisfied! Excellent stay.
Excellent location... place with great potential only it isn't as clean as you'd want it to be. Staff do their best and are always willing to help you out but the place could be better maintained.
Overall okay, especially given the price per night is only £7 a night (that's probably the cheapest hostel in the UK). The bathrooms (the bathroomfloors in particular) could be cleaner but then again, bring your own slippers and you'll be fine.
Vita Nova is simply a delightful place to stay. Staff, Cleanliness, breakfast service, surroundings,... all is excellent. We'd recommend this place to anyone looking for cozy, quiet and carefree weekend in Amsterdam. As the hostel is also a boat, there are a few minor drawbacks to your usual stay: the rooms are extremely small which perhaps makes this hostel less suitable for long term travelers with loads of luggage. Also, the water temperature in the showers is very difficult to adjust.

You definitely get value for you money in this place! One or two minor issues: some kitchen items are not as clean as you'd want them to be and we've met with friendlier staff before. No (real) complains!
With regard to cleanliness we can only speak for ourselves when we say we never suffered the bedbug problems prior guests complained about. Though, the common places (the shared bathroom facilities, for instance) are quite dirty from time to time. The staff were very helpfull yet, breakfast service was always late (which did bother us especially when we wanted to go to places like the Blue Mosque as early as possible) We were quite satisfied, although noise is defintely the biggest issue here.
