Good hostel - approachable and helpful reception staff, clean rooms, and located perfectly for walking around the city. Only downside is that A/C wasn't working for us so it was pretty hot and sticky during the nights, staff did try to help but they couldn't get the central system switched on. However, this seems like a one-off rather than a persistent problem - so overall would stay again.

Close to metro so very good base from which to explore Guangzhou. Awesome roof terrace to relax on though there wasn't any other backpacker presence during my stay which is a shame as it's a cool space. Big rooms, though beds leave you in a bit of pain after a few nights as very harsh mattresses. Door frames don't have much tolerance so the heat gets them jammed, which gets old after a while. Main hostel entrance is however completely secure with entry key which is really good.

A lovely hostel on the river with great views, good pizza served all day, and clean rooms. Our private room was ever so slightly too small for two tall people with backpacks but not a huge deal. A relaxed and welcome alternative for those wanting to escape China's cities for a while and skip more touristy towns like Yangshuo. A great base to enjoy the beautiful surroundings with minimal hawking. Tip: the hike from 9 horses forces you onto a boiling concrete road and just isn't worth it!

Staff are brilliant, friendly and helpful. Within walking distance of bus and trains (or short taxi ride). Great common area with all day English breakfast which was a welcome treat. Clean spacious private rooms which you can tell have been decorated with love. Perfect for both our stopovers in Guilin.

Yi Dou Hostel

Looked okay at first but we discovered broken toilet, dirty damp bathroom, leaking taped together A/C and ultimately cockroaches scuttling around. We were given a new room but soon found human mess on unchanged sheets and more cockroaches. Good location, hostel uses good tour agent for river trips, and has nice common spaces, but despite staff apologising, it was unfortunately just too dirty for us to stay.

Superb hostel. Right next to subway and within walking distance of people's park and Tianfu square. Local shops and food nearby. Staff so nice and helpful and went above and beyond to help us get our lost luggage back from Xi'an airport, and no problems letting us extend stay when we were unwell. Big comfortable private rooms, really more like a hotel room. Awesome chilled out common room.

High quality hostel, homely and clean private room. Location is excellent and central, near buses and subway but also walking distance to city wall, Muslim quarter, etc. On a quiet street with awesome meat skewers and other street food served late.. Good shared areas with lots of space.

Perfect location, best you could get in the city, and very clean. Comfortable and secure private room though a bit dark. Reception always staffed and nice cold drinks available when heading out or getting back after a hot day. A bigger common area might help to get people together a bit more.
