It's got a different name and new managers since I was here last, but it is still a great time! Very friendly environment where it is easy to meet new friends and have fun.
Pretty decent hostel but no sign of Ringo.
This hostel feels just like hanging out with a bunch of mates. The staff are really friendly and always bring guests together to do things around the city.
I was very badly bitten by bed bugs, so many that I had bites on my ears and face! They moved me to a different bed in the same room which also had bugs, but on my last night I was in a clean room. Every seat in the downstairs common area faces the wall, so it was not a very social place. The upstairs area was good but not many people went up there because it was out of the way and wasn't really promoted. Staff were the best thing about the hostel, they were very friendly.
The strictly enforced no drinking rule made it hard to socialise because outside was just too cold. Might be better in warmer months. Otherwise the hostel was very much average.
Excellent location right near the Pike St Market. There's a good kitchen and big common space where it is easy to meet people in the mornings/evenings.
Excellent hostel with a great social vibe and good common spaces. The free dinners help bring everyone together at night so there is always a good group of people to have a few drinks with! It is very easy to meet people and make new friends. The daily & nightly activities are good also, on Saturdays they do a day trip to Mexico which was great fun!
A pretty large hostel and it feels like it (ie not very personal), but otherwise it was still quite social. Australians dominated the clientele. Everything was clean and the beds were comfy, the breakfast was a bit lacking.
Nice downtown hostel, with a big common space on the roof. Its pretty easy to get out to the beaches and hotel zone via bus. A party-staff member helping to organise people to go out together would be a nice addition.
The bar has a good atmosphere, but it is shared with the public so meeting other travellers there is not so easy. The kitchens end up being the place to meet people, as almost everyone will be cooking cos eating out is so expensive. The local staff weren't particularly friendly or helpful, but the Scottish guy (forgot his name) was really good and gave lots of helpful information.
Good hostel with a nice big common space, where everybody meets for the free dinners.
Good hostel located really well. It was easy to meet people and the staff were knowledgable and made plenty of good recomendations.
This is the only actual backpackers hostel that I found in Kiev, so it's the best choice if you want to meet other travellers.
3rd time back and I still love it! It's the most social hostel I have stayed at, so always easy to make new friends!

A nice small sized hostel. The owner is a friendly guy and took us out for a few beers in the evening.
This hostel has a great common area where it is very easy to make new friends. The receptionist when I was there (Dace) was very helpful and friendly, and she always getting involved and socialising with the guests.
A wonderful hostel with a great social vibe! They organise lots of activities and events to help meet other travellers and have a good time. A good balance of day and night time fun, with the staff always ready to make suggestions and even go out and do things with you!
A good, large hostel. Very clean with helpful staff. The common area is nice and has a pool table and fire place.
A good hostel with a nice deck out the back where it was easy to meet new people.
A great hostel that has a very relaxed and friendly vibe. The common space is good to meet people and the tours they do out to the UFO etc are great! Highly recommend.
The husband and wife who own the hostel are good company, and every night they send everyone out to the parties at goldensands... it is good fun but a bit expensive for Bulgaria! The beach is near by and a really good way to spend summer days!
Not as party as I expected, but still a nice clean hostel.
A fairly good hostel with a decent common area to meet people in. The staff were helpful and the rooms clean.
Great hostel with very comfortable beds, a good common area to meet people and excellent staff who go out of their way to make sure you have a good time!
The location is great but that's about all. The staff were not helpful and made you feel like you were torturing them to ask for help or information.
The Party version of the hostels is where most of the events are, but they aren!t particularly great value for money, and you arent allowed to bring your own beers in to the common room or kitchen etc.
The better of the two G&T hostels in my opinion. The rooms are pretty comfy and the staff are helpful. A lot of the events are run from the other hostel, so its convenient and good to broaden the range of people you meet.
The location feels very much like a residential area. Its not too far to walk to find something to do though. The hostel itself is good and clean etc. The common room / bar is a local bar which has the old locals in there drinking pints of ale. There is no computer available, but there is wifi. The staff were helpful and printed boarding passes for us etc though.
Great place for a party, but typical big hostel feel. I still like it and keep going back just to visit the gen bar!
The bar & chill room is the best thing about generator hostel! Good to meet people and have a few drinks. The rooms are a bit dingy and the showers (at least the mens anyway) are a bit crappy, but that doesn't really matter when you're having fun!
A good hostel but not that easy to meet people.
A bit out of the city centre but right next to Metalkova, which is a lot of fun!
A clean comfy and nice hostel, with a good common area to have a few drinks etc.
The staff and owner are really helpful and fun, and the kitchen and common areas are a good place to meet people.
Good hostel with a nice common area. Great location.
Terrible hostel! The showers flooded, the beds all smell like cigarette smoke, the breakfast was horrible. I could keep listing more, but why bother!
Nice hostel, very close to the train/bus station and a ~10min walk to the main street and fortress.
The staff at this hostel are excellent. Dinner and a free beer is included every night, but it gets repetitive! One thing to note is the private rooms are few blocks away from the reception, and the bar is a few doors down. Not really a problem though.
Good hostel, the bar is lively and it's easy to meet people there. Beds are comfy etc.
Pretty good hostel, with a nice large common area to meet people. There is no kitchen, and you cant bring any food or alcohol inside the hostel at all (they make you eat on the front stairs). There is supposedly a bar, but it wasn't open when i was there. They still sold beer though, which was good.
Good large hostel, not really much more to say.
Good hostel in an excellent location.
Pretty good hostel in most regards.
The location is a short stumble from the major party area, yet is still nice and quiet. The bar, kitchen and common area are also good.
A new and very clean hostel.Beds are comfortable etc. The bar is good fun and the location is very close to Hamburg Hbf. As per most large hostels, washing, computers, breakfast, etc is an extra charge. Doesnt really matter though because its so cheap to begin with!
Is more like a hotel than hostel, good for couples and groups.
The kitchen area is a great place to meet people, and they have cooking nights etc. The rooms are a bit dingey, but who wants to be in the room anyway? There's one shared computer and no wifi, but if you need to do something important mostly people will get off it for you. The location is nice and close to bars, shops and transport.
More like a hotel than a hostel, which may suit some. There is no real common area, no kitchen and limited reception hours. The beds are big and comfortable and all have individual curtains. The cafe downstairs is not really suited to meeting people, so this hostel is probably better for couples or groups.
This hostel has an excellent common area/bar to meet people in. The rooms are clean and comfortable and the kitchen is good. One big problem was the useless wifi, which rarely worked on any computer, even the borrowed laptops. It makes a big different when you havent planned where you go next!
Reception and the common area had frustrating opening hours, the staff were not particularly helpful (couldn't print boarding passes etc) and signs like 'no drinking games' and 'dont put too much paper in the toilet' just make the place seem restrictive.
Fairly standard for a large hostel chain, nothing particularly good and nothing really bad. Common area and bar were not especially easy to meet people in.
Excellent hostel and very easy to meet new people. As soon as i walked in the door i'd made some new friends to party with that night. The staff are very helpful and lots of fun!
Excellent common area, easy to meet people and make friends. The bar was good fun and the dinners they cooked were delicious! The staff remembered everyone by name and were very helpful.
A great hostel in a great location. The kitchen was the perfect meeting place, where lots of people were usually chatting and drinking. The staff were friendly and helpful.
My 5th time staying at the Gen, and I still love it! Its a big hostel and the rooms are a bit dingy, but the bar is great fun and the location is excellent.
Great party hostel, with comfortable rooms, a good bar and nice pool area.
