Excellent location in Old San Juan, very clean, private room with a/c, shared bathrooms (but it was like having a private bathroom as there was never a line), one of the best hostel kitchens ever (two stoves, lots of pots/pans/utensils), nice open air common areas/balconies on the 5th and 6th floors, luggage storage, great security - electronic keycards. Would definitely stay here again. Comfortable, clean, and conveniently located. Wifi works well in common areas.
Booked this hostel to be near the bio bay tour. We've been in hostels on 6 continents;this was one of the most unappealing places we've ever stayed in. Location: super sketchy neighborhood 2 blocks from ferry to Vieques; about 20-30 minute drive to bio bay. Rooms and common areas appear are furnished but don't appear completed, comfortable, or clean. Bathrooms dirty and unstocked. Very small kitchen(hot plate). Ambivalent staff. Overpriced and would not stay here again.
See our previous review from a week or so before this! We spent another four nights here and had a great time. Great staff, solid and comfortable well located facilities, great breakfast. Excellent wifi. Would stay here again.
Great location near Kyrenia Harbour! Nice rooftop, basic kitchen, hot water/decent pressure, TV and a/c and refrigerator in our ensuite private room. Very friendly manager - definitely go to the restaurant he recommends, can't remember the name but the food is super fresh and delicious and vegetarian friendly for 10 lira/person (it's on the street behind the colonial/colkny hotel). WiFi spotty above first floor. Kyrenia recommendation: renting a car is the bet way to get around the TRNC.
Stayed here for two nights before heading to Cyprus (left luggage): great double room - solid WiFi on third floor, hot water/amazing water pressure, great common room/rooftop, filling breakfast buffet. Super helpful, friendly staff. Walking distance to everything! Definitely recommend.
Spotty wifi unless in common room, inconsistent hot water, decent breakfast. Room did not appear to be fully cleaned; only one blanket in winter (no heat, had to ask for space heater). Staff quickly became confrontational when we stated that they had overcharged us... they alleged that they didn't receive the 10% deposit fee and that Hostelworld got that fee, not them. We told them we're gold card members and that's not true but they insisted. Also, the airport shuttle they booked never came.
My husband and I stayed for one night. Dervis and his family were delightful; the included Turkish breakfast was great (we also were offered tea and pastries on our arrival - nice treat), and we also bought the Turkish dinner one night (tasty and in a nice warm and cozy communal room). Good WiFi (first floor room), good water pressure and hot water. Walking distance around all sights in town (and back from Ephesus), free ride to Ephesus. Definitely recommend.
good a/c, decent wifi in rooms, nice included breakfast (lots of fruit!). location okay for exploring intramuros/not too far from the airport. definitely seemed expensive for southeast asia (shared bathrooms and very basic rooms), but we found the philippines in general to be pricier than we expected.
good location for getting to/from the airport. good a/c and wifi in our room (second floor). nice rooftop area with seating, small but good night (food) market on the street. would recommend for the night before the airport.
in a year of backpacking through south america and southeast asia, this was the first place where we walked into our room and wanted to leave. we've had our share of windowless little box rooms, but this one reeked of cigarettes. as we just needed a place to stay for a couple nights and were going to be out during the days, we stayed, but go elsewhere if smoke bothers you. good a/c, weak wifi (works pretty much only in lobby), but good location near river/sights.
superior a/c room (upstairs) was spacious and comfortable with sitting area inside and on the balcony. definitely liked the room, and the location was a couple blocks from the main street in town (also a number of restaurants/shops along the riverfront street that the hostel is on). no meals included in price (a bit unusual). staff was less than helpful/friendly/attentive the few times we tried to ask them for information/get our laundry done. no atmosphere for socializing.
wonderful, cheerful, helpful staff (especially tony?)! good a/c, decent wifi connection in room, varied breakfast options, about ten minutes walk from hoan kiem lake. enjoyed our stay here. free tea/coffee option upon arrival back to hostel was a nice touch.
good location a few blocks back from the waterfront. standard double bedroom had huge windows, good wifi (second floor), cable tv and hot showers. mr. jim is fantastic! definitely book your bay tour here - small, private, exclusive, gorgeous ... and reasonably priced. not many great places to eat in town, but staying here gets you 10% off at the partner (waterfront) restaurant which has a pretty good spread of viet and western food and an AMAZING sunset view. highly recommend.
great room (superior double bed) with large windows and cute, private balcony (with table, chairs, and teapot). good a/c and cable tv. decent wifi connection on third floor. nice included breakfast (fresh juice!). friendly, helpful staff (they encouraged us to get clothes made at their affiliated tailor shop, but only on the first day.) super cheap bike rental place across the street (two beaches about 5 km away). very walkable to old town.
great central location on alley off the main street in the backpacker district (very close to drop off point for international bus from phnom penh - only a couple blocks). satisfying included breakfast (pancakes, fruit plate), good wifi (even on the fifth floor), cable tv, a/c. small common area on first floor. helpful, friendly staff. great juice place on corner of main street and numerous restaurants, etc on surrounding alleys.
friendly owner, helpful staff. good tuktuk driver arrangement for sightseeing around town. wifi connection good in common areas, but didn't work in our room (fifth or sixth floor). good a/c in room. good location half a block from riverfront - walking distance to numerous restaurants and about 10 walk from tourist boat dock for mekong cruises. can book direct international bus from phnom penh to saigon for reasonable price.
dave and melissa are really friendly and helpful (yes, even with figuring our your angkor ruins itinerary and tuktuk driver!)! my husband and i stayed in a double private ensuite and our friend stayed in a single private ensuite - both rooms were spacious, clean and bright with good a/c and wifi connection. located about a ten minute walk from the center of town (a couple blocks across the river). the small pool on the roof is so refreshing after a hot day at the temples - great touch!
decent staff, clean room (shared bathroom pretty standard), good wifi in common area but signal pretty nonexistent in rooms. about a ten minute walk from khao san road (several decent restaurants (some with a/c) along the walk there).
great, really helpful and friendly staff - we got back late from a tour one night and, per our request, they called a restaurant and placed a delivery order for us ... and brought it up to the room! spacious, pleasant room with great natural light and balcony, good a/c,good shower, great wifi even on fourth floor, good location just a couple blocks outside of the old city (very walkable). one of the best places we've stayed in our ten months of travel throughout south america and southeast asia!
wonderful staff and service! free pickup and dropoff from the bus station (such a relief not to have to haggle with taxi drivers). free bottled water in room. had clean, comfortable, spacious a/c room (shared bathroom not a problem, decent water pressure) above restaurant. pretty good wifi connection (husband's laptop connected well but my netbook had issues). decent food, great shakes. very friendly staff. absolutely recommend!
had clean, quiet, comfortable a/c room on second floor with solid wifi connection. nice terrace on top floor (long walk up stairs but there are lounge chairs/small breeze). city map not very detailed (less detailed than LP map). breakfast mediocre and expensive.
well-located in chinatown - walking distance to puda bus station, little india and the towers. friendly staff, okay (spotty) wifi, strong a/c, good mix of travelers.
friendly, helpful owners. decent wifi. pretty good restaurant on roof terrace, nice included breakfast (prices for other meals a little more than in town, but they make everything fresh right when you order it). fan cooled room was comfortable in early february. located a little bit outside town which is good for atmosphere, but beware inflated prices from tuk tuk drivers in town (shouldn't cost more than 200-250 from good shed bus stop).
raymond is fantastic! upon our arrival, he sat down with us, gave us a map of the city and highlighted all the best places to eat. every day his wife made a fresh cake for the guests to snack on. we stayed in a spacious, clean a/c room (4 nights). even though the three bathrooms were shared, there was never a wait. the guest house itself is picturesquely located on the river with a breezy terrace overlooking the water. great location in chinatown, wonderful old building. absolutely recommend.
okay location at the top of little india (walked from there over to the golden mile, kampong glam, the colonial district, chinatown and clarke quay in an afternoon). very basic breakfast. friendly staff. decent wifi in room. we were actually in the drop inn too a couple doors down from the main drop inn. not much ambiance, no real common areas. decent place to sleep (good a/c in rooms).
great/convenient location just inside the old city. clean, comfortable, spacious room and bathroom. decent wifi (on third floor). helpful/friendly staff (spanish only, but we're not fluent and we were able to arrange a taxi to the airport just fine).
decent location for recoleta, old building has some character but common areas were small, not quite clean and the limited kitchen was a tiny hallway. bathrooms very basic (showers didn't drain much). decent wifi. friendly staff.
good breakfast, all day coffee/tea, three nice common areas. good sized lockers in dorms, very clean bathrooms (soap & paper towels!). friendly staff. had unfortunate issue with booking system upon arrival (had booked weeks before online), but hostel was fully booked and had placed my husband and i in different rooms for the first night; the staff did apologize and gave us a free beer, which was nice after our 14 hour bus ride from rio gallegos.
very friendly, helpful staff! stayed here before and after torres del paine, in a private room before and a dorm room after - nice sheets, lots of blankets, basic but very comfortable. all bathrooms shared. decent kitchen (two stoves). good/spacious/multiple common areas. spotty wifi. only a few blocks from el calafate bus stop (cootra); torres del paine bus picks up at hostel. would definitely stay here again if en route to torres del paine.
fantastic view of the lake and mountains from common areas. great, helpful staff (including with tour bookings for the glacier, el chalten, etc), decent breakfast, good wifi in the spacious/cozy common areas, BBQ option for dinner each night, decent kitchen, five minute walk from town. recommend.
standard breakfast, free dinner a nice plus, ensuite dorm rooms (no fan or ac as far as we could tell though), great, open common areas (deck with view of lake, couch area, table area), hot water for showers (showers quite small), wifi strong in common areas (doesn't really work in second floor rooms). friendly staff.

great patio overlooking the lake, spacious indoor common areas as well. helpful staff. good wifi in common areas. free dinner a nice option as well. located about a five minute walk from town.
lots of character in building (rooms and roof terrace), friendly staff, decent breakfast, main common area is the upstairs terrace (could be tricky in bad weather), across the street from a decent market, very basic kitchen. walkable distance from the defensa street in san telmo.
good wifi, fresh juice included in breakfast, hot showers, decent location near san telmo/metro stop, great/helpful staff. very basic kitchen and showers didn't have doors (curtains only) separating them from bathrooms so doors were locked a lot of the time. our private room had a tv and dvd player but there weren't any tv channels and most of the dvds were scratched.
secure lockers under beds in dorms (10 bed dorms a bit crowded/dark), friendly staff, fresh juice with breakfast, free bike rentals from hostel, located on the other side of avenida 9 de julio from calle defensa/plaza dorrego in san telmo.
pretty good location near restaurants in town (but waterfront restaurants aren't really walkable), good wi-fi, decent staff. no fan in rooms (no way to keep the mosquitoes off), very basic kitchen, no real common areas, very scratchy sheets.
clean, private room with a/c, minifridge, tv with local channels and ensuite bathroom (door didn't close AT ALL though - appeared to be installed backwards). nice breezy common balcony upstairs with chairs/tables. kitchen appeared to be for family use only. 15 (uphill) minute walk from praia mole.
great location and great view of the beach from common areas. good breakfast, including seasoned tomatoes for breakfast sandwiches and fresh juice. hot showers, decent kitchen, good wi-fi. friendly staff, comfortable common areas, free drink every night. we also had the private room with private balcony overlooking the ocean, very nice (looked like dense populations in dorms, but think that's the norm in brazil). shared bathrooms always clean!
fantastic location right across the street from a small beach (bar/huge breakfast on beach). good hot water, wi-fi, friendly english-speaking staff, basic kitchen. definitely recommended. one of the best free breakfasts we've had in south america. easy ten minute walk into colonial side of town.
Great breakfast. Clean, comfortable common areas/dorms. Good location near the local bus station (for the falls and for getting to/from Puerto Iguazu). Helpful staff. However, Wi-Fi is NOT free which is puzzling, inconvenient and frustrating on principle. This is our ninth country in South America and we've NEVER had to pay for internet at any other hostel. Once you pay to get a 24 hour Wi-Fi code, the connection is pretty decent. Would have rated this hostel higher if Wi-Fi had been included.
Hot showers, decent Wi-Fi connection, AC in room, and good location only a few blocks from the bus station. Friendly staff. Basic breakfast.
Hot showers. Wi-Fi on first floor (common areas), good connection (signal didn't reach to our room on the second floor).AC unit in room. Good location. Fairly comfortable common areas (lots of seating). Meager breakfast (bread, butter and coffee only).
clean room, good breakfast buffet, helpful staff. cable tv in private rooms. no internet (internet cafes all over town though). we were in a room on the second floor initially which had a window and appeared recently renovated. we got moved to a back room on the first floor which still had an ensuite bathroom and tv but there were no windows/air flow there. hot water was stronger upstairs than downstairs.
clean, comfortable, central place to stay while passing through town. very hot showers. friendly owners.
very comfortable! good buffet breakfast, reliable hot showers, cable tv in room and the only wifi connection we´ve had in a hostel in bolivia. an oasis in the middle of the city (and a respite from the backbreaking bus rides (unpaved roads in most of the country).
very friendly owners. breakfast included whole fresh fruits. private ensuite room had hot showers as well as cable tv and a dvd player. wifi worked well in the room the first day but went out later that night - owners appeared to be working on the issue and there was a computer in the common area. owners also let us print a travel document for free! only a few minutes walk to the main square/bolivian consulate.
pretty good location just a couple blocks up from plaza san blas. nice fruit or eggs option included with breakfast. great natural light in rooms and common areas. hot showers. wifi ONLY worked in common areas. hostel can book onward bus tickets but charges a service fee.
good location in san blas, regular hot water for showers (in private room), standard breakfast. wifi connection only consistent in common areas. kitchen has stove but no oven (very basic). common areas not very comfortable to hang out in (drafty tv/computer room, rainy courtyard). able to store luggage while on inca trail. second floor rooms much nicer than first floor rooms (skylights). good quiet place to stay right before/after trails but not very social.
good location in san blas, regular hot water for showers, standard breakfast. wifi connection only consistent in common areas. kitchen has stove but no oven (very basic). common areas not very comfortable to hang out in (drafty tv/computer room, rainy courtyard). able to store luggage while on inca trail. second floor rooms much nicer than first floor rooms (skylights). good quiet place to stay right before/after trails but not very social.
helpful, english-speaking staff. excellent breakfasts (including crepes) and nightly glasses of wine. thin blankets but there was a heater in our private room. hot showers (not much water pressure). wifi only really worked in common areas. booked two excursions (wine tour and mountain tour) through hostel and were pleased.
fabulous, friendly, helpful staff & clean, well-maintained hostel with comfortable common areas. hot showers with firm water pressure. great wifi connection in our private room (first floor) and cable tv as well. short walk (about 10 minutes to plaza independencia). definitely a good place for long term backpackers. we stayed here 3 nights and got a deal with mr. hugo's bikes through the hostel! we moved to a different hostel to meet up with some friends in town and regretted it immediately!
helpful, friendly staff, standard included breakfast, decent kitchen, reliable hot water, good wifi connection in room, very close to supermarket. one caveat: our room was right on the street so there was a lot of outside traffic/noise.
very centrally located hostel with standard breakfast and fairly comfortable beds .... however, my husband got several of the itchiest bites (not sure what kind) that we've had in south america and his hand swelled up quite a bit the next day ...
good security, kitchen and helpful staff. extra blankets on beds. hot water inconsistent (hot showers one day, tried couple different times another day and only got cold water). hostel VERY DIFFICULT TO FIND IF you don't have the map they email you after booking. we looked at the map online and tried to mark the hostel on our guidebook's map (we didn't have access to a printer) and it took us almost two hours to find it - streets not well-marked and locals don't know it -not hard to find later.
we loved this hostel! we ended up staying here six nights. they served the best free breakfast we've had so far in south america (bread/butter/jam, tea or coffee, yogurt or eggs and banana pancakes). reliable hot water, strong wifi connections in rooms, terrace and backyard and well-organized tours as well.
very helpful staff! hot water and good wifi connection in room and wide selection of dvds to watch in common area ($10 soles deposit). easily walkable from the bus stations. breakfast buffet is nothing special. beds are a bit hard ... and both nights we were there, there was a huge cacophony of nearby roosters for hours before sunrise (not the hostel's fault, but just FYI).
relatively new hostel (great ambiance, several comfortable common areas), very friendly/helpful staff/owners (marcial & cesar), good location in historic/central lima (the only hostel i found on hostelworld in this neighborhood), hot showers with good water pressure, standard breakfast, very basic kitchen
standard/included breakfast, good wifi connection in room, cable tv in private room, *very* inconsistent hot water (don't expect hot water for a shower, even in the middle of the day), staff was helpful in arranging laguna 69 & horseback riding activities, clean, decent, average hostel over all... the only thing really missing is hot water.
fantastic hostel! great, cozy common area, hot showers, very helpful and friendly owners and staff, wonderful & fresh home baked breads and desserts and it is the first hostel we've been to in south america that has a washer and dryer (as opposed to having a washer and a clothesline). the dryer definitely came in handy after we'd been out to the waterfalls in the rain.
decent location and good breakfast options ... however, the second night we stayed here my husband got fifteen bites from either fleas or bedbugs. the room/bathroom also had a bit of an unpleasant smell.
clean, safe and well-located hostal (easy walking distance into the heart of the old city). good kitchen, extra blankets, (very) hot water, tons of dvds (and a few board games) and knowledgeable staff.
great building with extensive rooftop space and views, cozy room with the most comfortable bed we've had in south america so far, large kitchen (water supply to sinks ran out one day), good wifi connection in room, hot water in shower (low pressure), easy walking distance from markets ... sophie was very helpful! (she even recommended a great, inexpensive mexican restaurant: taco bello - located at bolivar & maria 523!)
cons: definitely more BAR than hostal (CAN'T SLEEP HERE), club volume music: 6pm friday - 4 am saturday & 10pm saturday - 3 am sunday, staff not regularly available to open door in the afternoon (repeatedly rang doorbell & knocked for over 5 minutes multiple times waiting for door to be opened; when the door was finally opened, we realized that staff was in the bar with loud music/bar door closed so they couldn't hear doorbell). pros: clean, attractive space, towel & soap & breakfast included
fantastic, helpful staff (and volunteers). good resource for information about area activities (horseback riding, coffee finca tours, tejo) and bus schedules. fantastic, fresh smoothie options to add to included breakfast for nominal fee. great house dinner options monday-friday as well at a reasonable price. booked for six nights and ended up staying for ten. beautiful, peaceful setting and easy (well lit) 10 minute (1 km) walk into town.hot showers not always available. highly recommend.
good sized private room (included television) but wifi access primarily limited to the common areas. smallest hostel kitchen i've seen (broken oven). nice bar and comfortable common lounge areas. extremely prompt taxi service when staff calls for you.

we stayed in the new building (about halfway down the block from the main building) and it was great (new, clean rooms, cozy dining area) and the included breakfast was more varied than expected (cereal, two types of bread, coffee, juice).
Gina was very helpful! Clean, comfortable and our double room had a powerful fan and a TV with cable! No hot water in the showers, but that seems standard here (and with the temperature and humidity, the cool water is quite refreshing).
my friend and i stayed for 4 nights in the mixed dorms (very clean,in suite bathrooms/showers. we went on two of the nightly outings coordinated through the hostel and had a great time (be prepared for miami drink prices!). the hostel bar is great and the hostel is located literally across the street from the beach (they give you beach towels too). perfect location and atmosphere for twenty somethings looking for a clean, convenient place to stay in south beach. no microwave in kitchen though.

great location in old quebec city; good security and pretty comprehensive breakfast included with cost of private room (bagels, hardboiled eggs, cereal, fruit, coffee) - if you're in the dorms, the breakfast is about $5. only possible complaint - there were no towels in the rooms - not sure if they're available at the front desk (?) we had a car and the cheapest parking we found was an outdoor lot a couple blocks north for $10/day (we were expecting it to be about $15/day).
we had a car and emailed them in advance and they had reserved parking available for $10/day.
