Hostel Skippy

This cozy guesthouse is only a short walk from the old town and about a 20 minute walk from the main bus station. Skippy and OLgA are warm and welcoming hosts. The rooms are spacious with comfy beds, there's nice hot water in the shared bathroom and a fully equipped kitchen for preparing meals. The nearby supermarket and bakery supply breakfast and grocery needs, and the local bar is only a few steps away. WiFi was excellent.

The triple on the 5th floor had plenty of room to spread out, with large storage drawers under each bed. The room was basic but comfortable & quiet, but only one power point. The bathroom (with an unlockable sliding door) had a nice shower & was shared with an adjoining room. Breakfast good - juice, cereal, bread, jam, boiled eggs, salad (cucumber & tomato), cold meats & hot pots of tea or coffee. 10 min walk or 1 min on tram to metro, 5 min walk to Billa supermarket. WiFi didn't work at all.

No sign out the front; taxi driver had trouble finding it at 11:30pm. I booked a double deluxe room with private ensuite and was put in a small room because "your room was given to someone else, sorry"...alerted staff to the fact that satellite tv wasn't working in the room, when I came back ten days later to a different room it wasn't working in there either. There are some local families who also live in the compound and stay up all night keeping neighbours awake.

Nice lounge area to relax, staff friendly and helpful with any questions. Only thing I didn't like was the lack of ventilation in dorm room, it got very stuffy at night. Highly recommended hostel.

Good - location, friendly, great breakfast, clean, relaxed atmosphere, value. Not so good - four bed female dorm was a windowless box, no room to swing a cat let alone four people's luggage. Positives outweigh negatives so would stay here again. Could be more eco-friendly eg recycle paper/plastic, use water-saving showerheads.

10 minute walk to poppies 2, close to legian beach; breakfast of toast and fruit ok; it would be a good idea to use ear plugs in the pool.
