As with most places in HK, the room was predictably small. Expecting this ahead of time made it easier to deal with. Otherwise, our room was very clean, the shower was hot, very good security, and the location was very close to the Causeway Bay MTR terminal. We found ourselves spending more time in Kowloon though, so it's best to have a rough idea of what part of the city you'll spend most of your time. It's an affordable option for CWB.
This place is pretty good bang for your buck if you're staying around Ao Nang. The property itself is gorgeous, very tranquil jungle garden setting with little brooks running through. There are a couple pools which are nice, the food at the restaurant is decent, you get quite a bit of food for what you pay (breakfast in particular) and the staff is all very welcoming. We also got a voucher for a free dinner if we returned, which we did a week later! Recommended!
Overall this was a pretty decent place to stay. It's located in a fairly quiet section of the old city which was nice, although it was a good 30 min walk over to the night market and most of the bars and nightlife. The staff gets an A for sure though. One of the guys personally drove us to check out a Cobra show outta town one afternoon with no advance warning, he also got up at 6am to personally drive us to the airport when we were leaving. Poor wifi connection in the room was frustrating tho.
We only stayed one night because of scheduling issues (with us, not the hostel) but it seemed like a pretty good spot. The room was clean, very friendly staff, they have a ping pong table, and they're within walking distance of the night market and the best restaurants and bars. Probably would've stayed longer if we were able to.
If you're staying in Silom it's a great spot. It's just around the corner from all the action but still quiet enough for a good sleep. Also really close to the sky train. The beds are comfy, the satellite tv was nice and it's very secure with key card access. It isn't a party hostel or overly social, so don't bother if that's what your after. If you want a nice quiet spot, that's still really close to all the shopping, restaurants and night life, give it a shot.
Overall a decent place to stay. Close to all the main attractions in town (Pub Street, Night Markets etc) and the rooftop bar is very cool. They can organize everything for you as far as tours go. Don't stay in room #3 if you value a good night's sleep though. It's located right by the main entrance and its full of loud, obnoxious, drunk hero's coming in from the bars. We were kept up on and off until about 430am all three nights we stayed. This was really no fault of Mad Monkey's though.
All in all not a bad place to stay. The restaurant and rooftop bar were both very social and the staff were very friendly. The bar shuts down before midnight so you can still catch a good snooze. Also a decent spa right next door for a good Khmer massage. Some of the sights are a little far for walking but there's tons of tuk tuk's around and they're usually pretty cheap. Wi-fi connection was a little spotty in the room but was good elsewhere.
Great option for staying in Saigon! Not a party place but if you want a nice quiet place to stay, this is it. Vy is super friendly, great with organizing day trips, located within walking distance to all the major sights, the room was very clean, and so far it's been the most comfortable bed I've slept in while in SE Asia.
My girlfriend and I stayed 2 nights here and our every need was met. The staff is incredibly friendly, clean room, free wifi, the free breakfast was pretty good, 5 minute walk to the beach. They give solid recommendations on local restaurants. They even lent us 2 towels to take to the beach while we were doing our laundry. Keep up the good work guys!
