A very relaxed hostel in a good location, just a short walk from the bus terminal and bars and restaurants (and the Brazilian embassy if you need it). The staff were fantastic - so friendly and helpful, and happy to let us persist with our dreadful Spanish despite their very good English! The pool is great and wifi worked well. Rooms are comfortable with good AC. Bathrooms are small and more like a wetroom, good shower and hot water though.

A mixed experience here. Location is great, staff friendly, breakfast ok (although no vegemite as advertised :() and bathrooms were pretty clean. Wifi was a bit hit and miss during our stay. Main issue was the location of the private rooms, right next to the roof terrace (a great space by the way) where there was partying and blaring music each night until 3am. It was like the speakers were in our room, and sleep was impossible. We aren't bothered by a bit of noise, but this was unbearable!

18th Nov 2014

This was without doubt one of our best hostel stays ever. Firstly, the staff - especially the lady in the morning - were so helpful and friendly, nothing was too much trouble. They have really thought of everything here, great facilities, clean rooms and common areas, and some useful extras like a free washing machine and a bus card you can hire. Breakfast is superb (Claudia's crepes are the best!) and the activities like the happy hour and BBQs are great. Stay here!

La Covacha Hostel, Salta, Argentina

14th Nov 2014

Fun hostel a few blocks from the main square in Salta, also easy walking distance from the main bus terminal. Private double room was huge with a big bed and nice window. Shared bathrooms were a little dated but generally clean and there were enough to go around. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Wifi worked well. Breakfast was tea, coffee and some bread rolls (with butter or dulce de leche); a bit more variety might be nice! The roof terrace is really great.

11th Nov 2014

Relaxed hostel a short walk from the main street in San Pedro - don't worry about the location, it's only 10 minutes or so (the town isn't very big). We had a private double which was spacious and comfortable, and had a nice bathroom (plenty of hot water!). Wifi worked well. The hostel had some nice common areas, including a large garden, which added to the chilled atmosphere. Staff were friendly and helpful, especially the girl who worked in the morning. A good choice in an expensive town.

Good option in Potosi; well located with helpful and friendly staff. Breakfast was very good and wifi worked well. Nice common areas and big kitchen and dining room. Our private double was big and comfortable enough, if a little dated. The room faced the street, but we did not find noise a problem at night. Plenty of hot water for showering too.

Lovely place for couples or people just looking for a break from hostels for a few nights. Great breakfast, good wifi and extremely helpful and friendly staff. Location is perfect, walking distance to all the main sights in La Paz. You can walk to the bus terminal in about 15 minutes, otherwise its a 20Bs taxi ride. Shower was hot and rooms very comfortable, the murals give the place a bit of colour and character too.

Nice hostel in a great location; very central to attractions and bars/restaurants, but very quiet. The family that run the place are very welcoming and friendly. Huge old building in a great spot in the old town of quito. We had a private room out in the garden which was big (two double beds) and quiet. The hostel is quite big - there are lots of different rooms, its a bit of a maze, but it never felt crowded and had quite a relaxed vibe. I think there were three kitchens and also lots of sitting areas. Bathroom was ok - not possible to have water pressure and hot water, but that's not unusual! Wifi worked well and staff were friendly and helpful.

Lovely hostel in a good location in the centre of town. Great communal areas including a lounge area and fantastic kitchen that guests can use. Showers were excellent (and hot)! We were in the private double in the "shed" in the yard which was cosy and comfortable. Shared bathrooms were good and always clean. Breakfast (6.000 pesos) was a highlight; absolutely delicious! We also had free coffee and juice in the morning.

Wonderful guesthouse in the heart of the Candelaria area in Bogota. The house has been beautifully restored and the size (there are only three rooms) makes a nice change from some of the larger hostels in Colombia. We stayed in the red room which was very cosy and comfortable. The whole house has been very well thought out and has everything a traveller could need. Wifi worked well and the included breakfast was delicious. We loved it!

Nice hostel in a quiet neighbourhood, short walk from metro station and zona rosa bars and restaurants. Some nice communal areas and a good, functional kitchen (no breakfast available, but there is a supermarket nearby). Private room upstairs didn't have much character, but the bed was comfy and there was lots of room. Wifi worked well. Shared bathrooms were clean. The staff were fantastic and the best part of this hostel; very friendly and also full of great information!

This hostel has everything a backpacker could want - private room had AC and a fan, comfortable bed and a small fridge. Location is very central, and much closer to the action than many of the other hostels. Wifi was good. Breakfast is not included but they have a good selection of reasonably priced options each day. The communal areas - pool, bar and rooftop are all great, loads of space to hang out. We were there over the weekend which was quite loud, but it didn't bother us.

Lovely boutique hostel in a fantastic location in Cartegena - a short walk from the old town, and close to lots of great bars, cafes and street food. The building is beautiful and pool a nice treat after a day walking around. We were in the cheapest room (the one with no windows, which some people have complained about)... it was small but absolutely fine, the AC worked great and it had high ceilings. The bathroom was huge! Wifi was good and the breakfast delicious.

The hostel is a short walk to the beach, dock and everything in town (it is a small place!). It has a lovely communal courtyard with hammocks and tables. The rooms were very comfortable with a fan, mosquito net and bathroom. There were no food or bar when we were there, but there are plenty of options in town, and it is nice to bring your own beers back to have in the courtyard. Would recommend this place and Capurgana in general!

Hi Katie, thank you for you nice comment on our hostel and good you enjoyed your stay at our hostel and generally in Capurganà. Unfortunately in those days we closed the italian restaurant for a couple of days as our chef took a couple of days off.

Good hostel in a good location, walking distance from the centre of town. Beds were comfortable and rooms clean. Breakfast is included and was great - cereal, toast and fruit, a good start to the day! Really nicely decorated with some lovely common areas (including the courtyard) and the staff were very friendly. Shared bathrooms were ok, if we had one complaint it is that they could perhaps be cleaned a little more regularly (but they really were fine!).

A wonderful place run by the loveliest hosts - they are so friendly, full of useful information and cannot do enough for you. The location is great, right in the heart of the city, but very quiet. Breakfast is simple but ample. Cute common sitting room with good wifi. The double room with private bathroom is located on the top floor. It is small, but very comfortable and great for a couple. Clean and comfortable room in the centre of Vernazza, just a short walk from the train station and the harbour. Lovely terrace area overlooking the main street. The bed is comfortable, and the kitchen and bathroom are adequate and well kitted out. We were most grateful to be able to do a load of washing too! It's not luxurious, but it has everything you need for a self-catered stay in the Cinque Terra.

This hostel has lots of character (it's very blue!) and is excellently located in the medina (close to both the main square and Bab El-Ain). Breakfast is decent and included - bread, honey, omelette, coffee and juice; showers are good, and beds are pretty comfy. It was quite cold when we stayed in February, but lots of blankets are provided to keep you cosy at night. Also, be aware that the twin room with the shared bathroom is a fair walk from that bathroom (on the next level). A good stay!

Cross between a hotel and hostel in an excellent location in Amsterdam - away from the crazy city centre, but in a relaxed neighbourhood and close to lots of great bars and cafes. Walking distance to all points of interest. Beds were really comfy, and rooms spacious enough. Shared bathrooms were small but clean. Probably could have been more showers though! Fun bar downstairs.
