Not a very interesting area to stay except for being sort of close to the airport (still an hour walk away). My room was clean and comfortable, and the bathroom was huge! My biggest complaint is that the airport shuttle I asked for at the front desk never showed up.
Harlem is a black neighborhood but I generally felt comfortable there even with blonde hair and blue eyes. My "single room" had a bunk; but I had it to myself. Bar fridge too! Bathrooms were a problem. There was only one male bathroom for the floor. The only two showers are in a single room. You can lock the door but it has a big window in it. Poor privacy. Also only two toilets, and never once did both toilets have toilet paper; sometimes neither! Cafeteria had awkward prepaid card system.
Very close to the train station, but the downtown area is quite run down with abandoned buildings. Both the hostel and general area were rather quiet and safe. The Falls themselves, and most attractions are about 30 minute walk away. Bit of competition for bathrooms even with few people. Repairs were being made to the hostel while I was there but this wasn't a huge problem. I felt this hostel was very good value for a single room near the Falls and would definitely stay again if I returned.
The facilities were good and staff friendly. It's a short walk to the local park, train and restaurants. It was quiet which suited me, but maybe not those who want to party (even Calgary is even the place for that). Some repairs were underway for flood damage but that didn't inconvenience. Would certainly stay again!
Strange setup. Rooms in separate buildings (3 I think) which are spread around. You don't know which street you will end up on. No front desk you can walk up to. Asked if I could leave my bags pre-checkin and was told ok, but no one was there to receive them so I had to stick them in an out of the way place. When checking in (had to ring and wait), I was asked to pay for a lift (via car) to the building where my room was. Room was fine though. Near huge mall and train, but quite out of the city.
Breakfast can get very crowded and my room got a little hot, but otherwise great. Nice staff.
I you want a single room in Vegas this is very good value. Includes breakfast and has a pool.
Hostel is right off the Walk of Fame, from where you can see the Hollywood sign. There are pan handlers and homeless people around, but safe enough. Walls were a bit thin and someone was doing wheelies in the neighbouring parking lot the first night. However everything else was very good, including the free tours.
Huge hostel with excellent facilities. If you want peace and quiet, rather then a party atmosphere, you may want to go somewhere else though.
Really is "home style" accommodation. Like getting to sleep in the spare room at mum's. Bathroom facilities were very good. Only a little walk into the cbd. Nice staff.
Girls behind the desk were very helpful. Some of the fittings in the bathroom need fixing. Pretty decent overall
My room got stinking hot and the air conditioner didn't seem to do anything but make a lot of noise. Pay TV has an english movie channel (nice) and two channels of second rate hardcore porn (naughty but nice).
Arabella and her partner are both really lovely and helpful. Great location. My single room with shared bathroom was actually one of the rooms (with lockable door) in a two bedroom apartment, so also shared kitchen etc. Very cosy, had own tv, huge mirror on huge wardrobe. Only complaint is full length frosted window in bedroom door, not feeling very private.
Had a basic, but very nice clean room. Staff were nice. Would stay here again.
Ridiculously good location near the main train station, nice breakfast, helpful staff. One problem I did have was the crowding. It was scarey seeing a buses disgorge a hundred school kids out front. Sometimes social areas were closed of for groups too.
Water in shower and basin smells like ammonia. View was onto derelict building. But very cheap, nice staff and decent breakfast included. Not far from major bus stop.
Good location. Nice rooms. Bit hard to get service from the people in the bar downstairs at time. Recommended.
Very nice staff. Great location. Beds in 12 bed room dorms are really smushed together. But otherwise recommended.
Horrible location. You'll need to depend on the very undependable Crete buses to get to the Heraklion. Or probably taxis. Decent rooms, nice breakfast. Reception often unmanned.
Weren't expecting me despite my hostel world booking. Also, no breakfast despite what the site says. Very quite. No sea view. No one around to ask for free coffee/tea. Great location, near the central bus stop.
They seem to have a problem with their hostel world booking setup where they didn't have my booking when I arrived and then tried to charge me again for the deposit I already paid online. But the staff and breakfast were great.
Lady who booked me in was very lovely. Other guy (her husband?) ambushed me on the way out and demanded I hand over the key until I came back. Basin was clogged, but was fixed quickly when I asked. Shower water was lukewarm first morning, not warm at all on the second and warm on the last. They turn off some of the lights during the day to reduce costs I guess (left stumbling in the dark until she remembered to turn the lights on) and I guess they must do the same for hot water.
Have stayed here twice and extended stays here too. Good facilities and security and nice staff. As long as you don\'t find all the dodgy stuff going on out front in the red light district.
There were ants crawling on the bread baskets at breakfast. Urgh.
Christain run, so you'll have to crawl back looking guilty from what you've been up to in the red light district. Also breakfast is a bit small and I personally got stuck at the bottom of a wobbly bunk with another guy on top even though other beds were empty, plus the matresses squeek.
Very much enjoyed my stay. The location in the red light district was very entertaining. :D
