Riad Jennah Rouge

Marrakech, Morocco

Really enjoyed my stay and will return! Pluses: beautiful building, esp communal area and roof terrace, comfy beds, great bathrooms, free mint tea, helpful (and attractive!) manager, good location (just outside main medina area), chilled out, beer and shisha (though pricey at 50 MAD) available! Improve: breakfast (pancakes, bread, jam, coffee) - its OK but some eggs, cheese and fruit would be nice. Tours - little/no detailed info (meant my tour didn't go as planned and not worth the money).

Dar El Yasmine

Fez, Morocco

Very central hostel, nice roof terrace, great breakfast (breads, egg, cheese, juice, coffee), good bathrooms. Generally enjoyed it. Minuses: got put in a different room from the one I booked, with tiny bed; washing service isn't great and slow (allow two days!); staff not esp helpful. I booked a Fez-Marrakech 2 night tour through them - it was OK, but at 150 EUR, was pricey (do it for 70 EUR from Marrakech), and included time consuming stops at expensive cafe and carpet seller.

Aline Hostel

Chefchaouen, Morocco

Decent hostel, but a little away from Medina and a bit crowded. Host doesn't speak much English. Breakfast was small (bread and jam). Lovely roof terrace though and decent vibe. Very cheap too.

Al-Andalusí Hostel

Tangier, Morocco

Good hostel, centrally located, good vibe (not too much of a party hostel), great breakfast (but late!! 9am start!), roof terrace. Main drawbacks: the cat kept coming into our room/beds, didn't feel that secure, could arrange some tours/day trips...

Nomadas Hostel

Malaga, Spain

Nice, but painfully quiet and boring (which may suit some people). It was low season though, which didn't help. Unfortunately, there was no real communal area, especially with the terrace closed. The internet PC was also very slow. On the plus side, bunks and bathrooms very nice - way too good for backpackers! It's quite a new hostel, and will improve I am sure. They try a bit too hard to make it homely though - no need to set the tables for breakfast (which was a bit basic) each morning!

Sevilla Inn Backpackers

Seville, Spain

Really enjoyed my stay here - the perfect balance, not too quiet and not too loud. Able to have a few drinks with fellow travellers on the lovely rooftop terrace, but peaceful after midnight. Staff were really helpful in advising travel options and places to eat. Breakfast was basic, but plentiful. Excellent value too - very cheap. I would happily pay a bit more though for a slightly better breakfast, more comfortable beds & a few more bathrooms. Some evening meals would also be good!

Pars Teatro hostel

Barcelona, Spain

Lovely hostel. Good location, near the port, montjuic and la ramblas. Staff very friendly and helpful. Guests up for having a good time, but respectful of those who wanted some peace. Showers nice and powerful and hot! Free internet stations and wi-fi. Breakfast was a bit basic though (just cereal and toast and jam) - I would have been happy to pay an extra couple of euros more for a bit more variety (e.g. cheese, meats, eggs, croissants)! Would certainly stay there again. Recommended.

lovely little hostel - fabulous location, very friendly staff eager to make you feel at home, super clean, free wifi, well furnished and a good, generous breakfast. Will certainly return there!

Amsterdam Hostel Orfeo

Amsterdam, Netherlands

Very pleased I booked this hostel - great location by the leidseplein, really chilled out, relaxed, good and plentiful breakfast, free internet, comfortable beds. Only negatives were slightly early check-out (10am) and could do with some security lockers I think. But generally a really cool place - very much recommended!
