Nice hostel, only stayed for one night and it was a little old in terms of the stairs etc, but good location next to the British Museum.

Pickwick Hall

London, England
86%

Pickwick Hall is a smaller venue and more like a bed and breakfast than a hostel - there were a couple of families with young kids and also older travellers (60+). It'd be good for people travelling for the first time or those who prefer a more quiet atmosphere. Location is fantastic, right next to the British Museum. Wasn't really for me - buildings and facilities a bit old, bed was too soft for my back and it was also a bit too quiet for my purposes but might suit others.

Fantastic hostel with helpful staff, good facilities, nice atmosphere and great location. Only thing I noted was the lack of an age limit (there were super old people staying) which felt a tad strange, oh that and the unreliable internet. Would stay again though.

Very friendly and funny staff (think quiet, grim looking but sarcastic and funny). Location is very close to the main tourist attractions, hard to meet people though, with no real common room and no kitchen. Not ideal if you're looking to live with the locals but very clean. Suits some but I'd probably stay at Taksim next time.

Room/bed and common room were good, location is fairly good once you're there. Staff were horrendous though, I thought it was just the one person, but the second and third staff members I dealt with (one to ask a question and one at checkout) were either rude or clueless. Also the first place I've seen in years that makes you pay for lockers to store luggage after checkout. Showers are not well set-up and toilets disgusting. Would not recommend.

Very impressed with this hostel, friendly staff, cleaners cleaning 24/7, good facilities, awesome deco, felt very safe. Only thing that was missing were organised activities such as trivia nights, walking tours and/or pub crawls. Location is amazing though and all in all, great value and would stay again. Highly recommended.

Lovely hostel in a good location with amazing staff. It was extremely new and clean with fast wireless internet, an absolutely crazy breakfast (croissants, muffins, boiled eggs, white and brown bread, crumpet things and orange juice). There was a quiz night and it's so easy to meet people. Free towels were provided as well. Best thing would be the staff though, very helpful and dare I say, the Dutch staff member who spoke 4+ languages was lovely and kind of hot =)

Location was amazing, but the internet was extremely slow (Google took about a minute to load). Toilets and bathrooms scattered outside rooms and there weren't very many of them, nor did they seem overly clean, possibly just old. Not sure if I would stay again, I guess it's OK for a short stay, very safe and lovely neighbourhood.

In line with the city of New Orleans, stepping into this hostel was stepping into Bohemia. The best thing was the character, the worst thing was the cleanliness. Certainly, this was 1-2 days after the hurricane/floods hit so the city was still recovering from lack of electricity etc, but I have a feeling that cleanliness wasn't usually a huge focus. The staff were helpful and this was the only hostel we found for New Orleans. Best city ever, wherever you decide to stay.

USA Hotels Hollywood was a great place to stay. Extremely clean, very secure with large lockers and two power points inside the lockers and friendly staff. There were also a number of activities run by the hostel and a fully equipped kitchen. Wireless was not always stable but a fantastic location and overall, a good place to stay. Definitely recommended.

My second time staying, great hostel. The things that really stand out are the location & the staff, which are both superb. Fantastic hostel! Definitely worth the little extra that you pay for it, as you have literally everything you need. Pros: very clean, super fast unlimited internet, great atmosphere, kitchen with all utilities, as well as pasta, rice, milk, herbs & spices, also a very friendly & helpful host. Cons: no one to answer questions after 1pm, outside of the building covered in scaffolds. All in all, feels like home, possibly the best hostel I've ever stayed at. Highly recommended.

Overall a fairly good hostel. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful and this is by far the cleanest hostel I've ever been to. Very good kitchen and a cozy common area, though it can get VERY loud (due to large groups with drinking games). Location is ok but not fantastic, but then all the hostels are situated in the same area so it's not too bad. Fairly reliable internet, lockers provided. Recommended.

Fairly good hostel, very modern, very clean, great location, good kitchen and mostly reliable internet on the ground floor. Staff were average though, gave me a mixed dorm when I booked a female one and some didn't seem that friendly. Optional breakfast is 6.50 euros, which is quite expensive. All in all, recommended and I'd stay again.

Average hostel, one of the cheaper ones in Amsterdam though, especially on a weekend. Pros: fairly clean, decent security, friendly staff, fantastic location. Cons: no free internet (rates are quite expensive in fact), mediocre breakfast, very in-your-face Christian, very small common area. Not bad for a short stay but I wouldn't suggest it for a long one.

A very clean and new hostel, kitchen with facilities, free internet in the lobby (though it wasn't always reliable) and a comfortable lounge area. The location was actually quite good, despite being a couple of connections away from the central station. No breakfast and despite being rather clean, the bathroom always smelt a bit, staff were nice but could have been friendlier. Altogether a good hostel, I'd stay again.

Frankfurt Hostel

Best thing about this hostel is the location. Other good things include the excellent breakfast that is provided, reliable internet & free towels. The beds don't seem to be too clean though & perhaps it's just because I was travelling by myself, but many of the other people there worried me, which has never happened before. The crowd they have is very mixed, including lots of old men, some seemingly touched in the head, some sleazy & some plain creepy. Not suggested for solo travellers.

Overall a fairly good hostel, excellent location, extremely clean, huge wire/crate lockers and one of the best breakfast's I've seen (cereal, 4 types of bread, rolls, eggs, juice, canned fruit, hot choc, coffee, cheese, ham & salami). Cons: Internet was a bit slow at times, it could be very loud on weekends, the showers were a tad hard to use and the common area wasn't that great. Oh and no kitchen. Good value for money though, I'd stay again.

A good hostel, though nothing special. Pros: fantastic location, reasonable price, very clean rooms, free internet, friendly staff. Cons: mediocre breakfast (toast & eggs only, no cereal, juice or fruit), terrible bathrooms/showers (water goes EVERYWHERE, no space, low water pressure), small kitchen with no cutlery. Overall, the location was probably worth it, especially given the friends that I made here, would stay again if it's only for a couple of nights.

All in all a good place to stay, especially considering the alternatives. Pros: very friendly and helpful staff, free dinners that bring everyone together, great atmosphere, reliable wireless internet, good location. Cons: not very clean, no breakfast, 5 euros for linen, loud music from about 9:30am til midnight each day. The people that you meet there though are worth it, so I would recommend the place, despite the cons.

Residenza Muropadri

Mixed feelings about this place, I think the most important point to make though is that this is the only place in the lovely city of Verona that a lone traveller can stay, as there are no hostels in the city. No internet, place was a little difficult to get to from the station (take the bus 72 towards Biondella and stop at Via Nazario Sauro), it wasn't too clean and the room was a bit cold. But the location was actually quite goo, close to Juliet's house and shops. Definitely worth it.

This hostel was a bit of both extremes. Pros: very friendly staff, great atmosphere due to common area and small size of the hostel such that you can't help but meet other people, very good wifi and cooking facilities available. Cons: not very clean, there was only one toilet (also the bathroom) to share between up to 12 or 13 people, no lock on doors and the place can be hard to find when you first arrive as there is only a tiny label on the doorbell saying "Ciao Bella Milan".

This was an amazingly clean and efficient hostel. There were HUGE individual lockers, a sink in the room, very clean bathrooms and toilets and very helpful staff. The location was very central and it was just a great place to stay. Maybe not the most social place, the internet was a tad slow at times and it was a bit noisy at night, but I would definitely recommend this place. Switzerland in general is super expensive, so be prepared, but otherwise a fantastic stay.

Lovely place to stay, location was fantastic as it was between 2 metro stations & also in a very safe and clean neighbourhood, unlike a lot of the other hostels I glanced in Paris. Staff all spoke English very well & the rooms & bathrooms were cleaned exceptionally well. Downsides: internet sometimes slow, lockout b/w 11-4 (although it meant you were forced to explore the city, a good thing) & the rooms were a little small, though I think it was pretty typical of Paris. Overall not too bad, especially compared to most of the other hostels that you see on the streets of Barcelona. The rooms all had locks, the kitchen was quite functional and the dining area had a good atmosphere. The lack of blankets on the beds was a big annoyance, perhaps it's worth paying for them, I don't know. Staff were ok, though couldn't answer all questions. Very well situated next to a major station. I'd stay there again.

Oxford Backpackers Hostel

I'm of a mixed mind about Oxford Backpackers Hostel. On the one hand, it was very funky with a nice common area and the staff were quite helpful, but then the beds were quite creaky and we had this guy come in at 2am with a torch asking loudly if everyone was ok (staff member that is). At 2am though, so suffice to say that I did not sleep very well. Cleanliness is a bit hard to tell, but it seemed like they employed backpackers to do all the cleaning. Location was fantastic though.
