Grand Hostel Berlin

This is a fantastic hostel - one of the highlights of the trip. Unfortunately no kitchen, though. It is about 5min walk from the S bahn and only a 100m or so from the U bahn so though it is not in the centre of town, access is easy. The atmosphere is what sets the place apart. The staff are very friendly and sociable and this hostel is a very good choice for those traveling alone.

Fantastic location, rooms are clean, bathrooms are excellent, kitchen is great but the place has the professional and impersonal atmosphere of a hotel which is rubbish if you are traveling by yourself and want to meet people. I stayed in two locations in Berlin and though the second was further out and the facilities weren't as nice it was a far more enjoyable experience. But this hostel would be perfect for people traveling in a group looking for budget accommodation

We are glad that you had a good time and we feel sorry if you find the atmosphere too professional and impersonal. We created our guest kitchen, breakfastroom and public areas in a way that should give you the oppertunity to communicate with other people and our reception is open 24/7 to make sure that you get any support you need. But if there was something about the atmosphere you didn't like we still have to work on that! Thank you very much for your feedback! Your MEININGER Team

Fantastic couple of days. The staff were very helpful and generous with their time, which went a long way towards making the stay a pleasant experience. One of the staff even used his morning off to take us on a hike nearby. The communal area is a little small but the hostel had one of the best cooking facilities I've seen. Will definitely recommend this place.

The kitchen is very small and not good for cooking a meal that requires more than one pot. We also needed to clean all the rubbish and dishes that had assumedly been left from dinner the previous night so we had something to cook with. Lovely warm showers though. The hostel would have a good atmosphere if it was full but the place was practically empty.

A solid hostel. unfortunately the laundry service was down for the couple of days we were there and one of the showers wasn't working to begin with but that's mostly bad luck with timing. Atmosphere is dependent on who else is there but there is a good common room and lounge in the kitchen.

We stayed in this hostel for 5 days & during this time we had running water (cold) & a flushing toilet only occasionally. They didn`t seem to make any effort to fix this. Plus you have to pay R5 daily for the internet (even if you don`t use it) and it is dreadfully slow! Apart from that the staff are friendly & the atmosphere is good - it`s a great place to meet people. The kitchen & breakfast are both decent. We have stayed in several Che Lagato Hostels now and the others are much better!

The breakfast is fantastic, the staff very helpful. It´s a great place for meeting people and the location good - right near the supermarkets, banks, beach, shopping mall and close to the bus stop to Pelourinho. It~s a short taxi ride to good nightlife locations. The only downside is the bathrooms quickly get a wet floor.
