The Ritz Hostel

A trouble-free week, hostel essentials are there, showers (cold only) with adequate hooks, towel bars, mirrors, etc. Bunk beds are standard, lockers are good size with a built-in lock so you don't need to bring one. Lounge and fridge are nice for checking emails and keeping food & cold drinks. Night security guard & locks on building & individual rooms. Cleanliness adequate, some sort of small slow moving critter was all I saw in room. Location handy to walk down town or to bus for beaches.

The rooms have lockers for your stuff and decent bathrooms. Wifi was only free for 3 hours which is pretty lame, every hostel should have free wifi, full stop. Also, they charge for a reading light on your bed & power outlet which is ridiculous. Again, every hostel should have a handful of outlets per room, not one for 8 people! Everything else was good or better but these are really simple things to fix and will make the difference between a luke-warm review and a return visit.

This is the second time I've stayed at the hostel and it's quite good in terms of location and staff. I would like to see hooks put up in the bathrooms for towels and shelves for toiletry kits, and the under-bed drawers should be oiled. These are fairly basic things but they make all the difference. Also, the website should have the street address and postal code information as customs requires these details on the entry card. It is an unnecessary hassle to use Google to figure this out.
