Hostal Sol

More of a hotel so didn't have the hostel facilities like kitchen. We found the cost of Wifi at 5 euros a day quite high in this day and age especially as this was one of our most expensive accommodations in Spain and the only one that didn't provide free Wifi. Excellent location walking distance to bus and train station and quiet.

Great to have a kitchen with a fridge and freezer in the heat of Madrid. Very helpful staff but not intrusive. Very convenient located next to the Metro. Workman noise was not an issue.

Did find that smoke from the smoker's area drifted into the main hostel which was annoying. Great community spirit which meant it could be noisy in the wee hours. Excellent location. Excellent kitchen with free coffee. Bedrooms a bit tight.

Quiet. Very busy place with great demand on facilities. Facilities seemed scruffy for the price of a double room.

Our room was next door to the outside area which we enjoyed, but often we got cigarette smoke drifting into our room which we found annoying. A good selection of eateries nearby which was good. Transport wasn't great we invariably walked to town. Good security , helpful staff, good kitchen area.

All the cigarette butts lying around the garden all the time made the place feel dirty. We had to go through the garden to go to our room. The kitchen was rather small and very crowded at times, so often you had to wait for space to cook. I don't know if it was this or because most of those staying there were workers not travellers but often dishes were not cleaned after use so staff would wash and confiscate the pots. Some great people there but somehow these things I found annoying.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hostel, unfortunately it was booked up on our return. The owner put on a free BBQ for us one night, a thoroughly enjoyable evening. We enjoyed the great selection of breads and cereal for breakfast, which was available at any-time, quite often at other hostels we found that breakfasts were only available from 8 am and as we wanted to be out travelling around by then we often missed out. The staff and owner at the Wickham went out of their way to help us.

Good location, cleanliness excellent, helpful staff. We shopped around for tours as we felt the hostel tours here a little overpriced. We had overbooked our stay here and had to leave a day early and told the staff at 8am in the morning, they charged us for the full extra day 510yuan, While we were expecting to pay a proportion to pay the full amount, when they would easily have re-let the room during the day we felt was over the top and left a sour taste after a very pleasant stay there.

Yamen Hostel

Great hostel with courtyard, good atmosphere. Although one night that was spoilt by a group who were partying outside our bedroom till we told them to shut up after they woke us up at 11pm. I did tell management & they said it was a "group". Well groups need to be managed. Fair enough it was a one off experience so a good hostel. The tour to the underground castle from the hostel was good value.

This is a Chinese hotel advertising under the IYHF but provides no hostel facilities. English speaking only during office hours.Took > 45mins to check in & we had booked. Security - every day we returned home our card was blocked even though we had paid our money. The bathroom had hair in the shower drain and cigarette butts behind the door and the towels smelt of smoke when we arrived, but the room was cleaned each day. The internet area is a smoking area. If you want a Chinese hotel its OK

Very good hostel, staff always quick at assisting you and very knowledgeable and attentive. It would be great to have Wifi in the bedrooms as I found that in the evenings there wasn't a quiet area to work. Great place to stay,

Excellent small friendly hostel, excellent security and ideal location in main square. Unfortunately our room was close to the common toilets so the squat loo aroma was noticeable on occasions

Good location, helpful staff but fairly basic. We were there in April and it was hard to keep warm even with an electric blanket, drafty walls. So if there when it is warm its great

Thank you so much for your comment..We are relly sorry about the problem you have met. As the wheather is getting warm,we are more or less getting careless about the tempreture. We prepared some thick quilts for teavellers in case the electric blanket isn't enough. If we knew the situation,we would be very glad to give more quilts to you.Wish to see you next time.Have a good day.

Excellent facilities especially the bathroom with shampoo and bodygel provided. Friendly helpful staff, god food. The new road you have to cross to get to the old town could be a problem as the road becomes busier.
