Downstairs toilets considerably I dirtier than the upstairs ones, good social areas with books films and sofas and big pillows, without air con in the day which is usually fine but the rooms get very very hot very quickly once it's off.

Howard is a lot of fun but rather eccentric, will go out of his sway for guests. The hostel is so chilled and cool, lots of bikes available to use to go on tours with Howard, good location as it's close to everything, beds a touch uncomfortable and pillows particularly flat and toilets kinda smelly but that can be forgiven.

Had a room with thin windows which faced out onto a main busy road and shopping mall which played loud adverts with music all through the night, has absolutely awful sleep. However it is really close to lots of sights and things to do and train lines, the staff were friendly and social area nice and open with a fridge that everyone can use, also just round the corner from an amazing street full of hawker style food places.

Comfy beds with your own curtain for privacy, and a doorman at night, breakfast of egg, toast tea and coffee, can use the plates and glasses provided for outside food and drink and a water filter on the tap for drinking water. But staff were a little over-friendly bordering on creepy at times and there is pretty much zero social atmosphere, and the toilets are cubicles in a busy corridor which allows for zero privacy, especially if you've been sampling the local curries.

Really great hostel, comfiest beds in Thailand, good quick wifi in the rooms, great showers and bathrooms, I can see why it has won awards, such great value for money, really social but can have a lot of privacy if you want it, we just had a stop over for one night to sleep and eat and did both of those things very well at Pak-up.

Golden Hill Bungalows

No Internet in rooms, pretty hilly walk as it's the furthest place to stay from town, showers were particularly cold and staff pretty unhelpful especially the English guy. But good pool area, average to comfy beds, and okay for the money seeing as it's one of the cheaper places to stay on the island.

Loved staying here, friendliest hostel by a mile, Pong Clyde and David were awesome staff, it's got a great chill out area with hammocks and movies, great day trips, the facilities aren't super amazing (fan rooms get a touch hot, cold showers) but I cannot give them less than 100% because myself and five friends had such a great stay. Good place to stay during full moon if you don't want to stay on ko phanganh because its so chilled for a hangover.

Much like what other people have said the staff are very very bored of backpackers. There was absolutely no compassion from them towards a couple of girls who were very sick and every time I went to ask a simple question it was met with a look of disdain. However the bathrooms were good, the big dorms were okay with a decent amount of privacy as all the beds are separated by curtains, there is a cool social area downstairs with huge mattresses to chill out on and a big luggage storage place.

Love love love this place, very chilled out with a great relaxing atmosphere, good chilled music plays all day, the staff are chilled out also. The only reason I give good for facilities is because the pillow was rock hard and they could have done with mosquito nets as there are a few about. You can book a bunch of courses and things to do through the hostel which is really easy and they'll also let you leave baggage and have showers if you're getting night trains after checking out.

Got a fresh towel every day, huge dorm rooms with loads of space (8 bed mixed dorm). It's a family run place and the family are extremely sweet and kind, it's not the most social but still has as common area with good breakfast. Booked a good tour through them also which was great value for money, and they provide airport taxis which is a helpful bonus.

Only one dorm room so not particularly social and it's a very child-friendly place, but really great facilities, located between the town and the beach which was excellent and the staff were very helpful, breakfast was pretty good also.

The shower in the mixed dorm in the Hang Vai hostel was a bit pathetic. A new shower head would have gone a long way...but overall greet helpful staff, in the centre of the bustling old town, good tours, free breakfast and beer and they were very flexible when adding an extra nights stay. Mike Tyson in particular was very helpful and lovely.

Best hostel Ive stayed in, and I've been to a lot. Perfect location for Berlin nightlife/bars/restaurants. Staff were extremely friendly and full of good recommendations. Stayed in the 22bed dorm and had more privacy than I have had in smaller dorms elsewhere. Extremely clean, really decent open kitchen that everyone can use, breakfast is 3 euros but all you can eat continental, rent towels and sheets and get the deposit back at the end, luggage storage. All in all just brilliant! Thanks Odyssee

The showers are a long walk from all the rooms which is annoying if you forget something. But the bar downstairs is loads of fun, the free tour was good and the staff are helpful and friendly.

Showers are horrendous. They spray your face and no other part of your body, and in the en-suites the water in the toilet keeps running so loudly and it echoes all through the night. The hostel is in a very hilly area so walking with a back-pack is challenging. It's also quite a dodgy area and we felt unsafe.

Staff were extremely rude and unhelpful and there was no storage for anything. kitchen is very ill-equipped i.e no utensils, toaster, oven, glasses. And they have this lockout time where NOONE is allowed in the rooms between 11 and 3 so no chance of a lie-in!

There are loads of lockers which is great but bring your own lock. There are refurbs going on right now which is only going to make the place better over time but we wern´t disturbed by it. Location was good, right near a supermarket and they have a big kitchen for use thats kept clean and tidy.

There are no locks on the lockers so bring your own, but very clean, bathrooms cleaned every day and it's worth getting the breakfast in the New Zealand bar downstairs, good value for money and you can make a lunch out of it. Also, the staff were great, used loads of internet for the same price as half an hour. Would really recommend staying!
