Only 50MB of free wifi and must be accessed at reception only. Pay-for Tomi Zone internet available in rooms for a fee. Hostel is a good 15/20 walk out of town.

Clean and modern rooms. Felt a little like a hotel though with blocks and long rows of rooms. Showers were not powerful and weren't great but didn't have to queue for them.

The setting and ambience of this hostel was amazing. It was chilled and welcoming and everything you could ask for, for a few relaxing days by the sea. The owner was fantastic. He advised on things to do locally, printed out booking confirmations for me and let me use the showers and store my bags in the safe after checking out. Strongly recommend this hostel.

The Old Countryhouse

Christchurch, New Zealand

This hostel was the only one available when I booked due to the Canterbury Races. It was a 30min walk out of town. The internet was unbearably slow which was inconvenient whilst trying to book the rest of my trip and because there were NO INTERNET CAFES in Christchurch post earthquake. The reception area smelt of wet dog - because there was a dog in the office - and the showers were terrible and not enough of them as you had to queue to use them. They charged to hire towels.

Hi sorry to here we were your last choice for accommodation in Christchurch, I would like to point out that we are only 1500 meters from the center of the city and the internet can get a little slow when everyone logs on at the same time, how ever our staff would have been delighted to help you plan your trip. We do have over 17 toilets and showers spread out over 4 buildings, and as for the wet dog well if it rains he gets wet, But we still love enough to let him on his bed in the back office.

The owners hadn't checked their booking list and had already let our room when we arrived! We arrived later then we suggested but there was no one there to greet us when we arrived and we had to wait for 30mins for someone to turn up! That aside the location was great and the owners found us alternative accommodation for the night whih was very nice!
