It didn't really up to my expectation, one of the staff happened to be cold and not responding (but there were other staff which are much more friendly and helpful). And I happened to stay in the room close to the reception which is kinda noisy until midnight. It would be a nice hostel if it is located closer to the city center, but I do expect more when it is a bit further away.
It maybe a bit difficult to reach at the first time but staff are willing to guide you when you arrive so is not a big problem. The staff here are effective and kind, but sometimes happened to look serious where I believe it was due to their concern on customer's needs. it is an ideal place if you want a quiet stay and get the feel to live in an old building in the town, as well as some family style operation. I particular enjoyed their breakfast and tea.
It is a nice and decent hostel near the main plaza, the staff can guide you to the hostel from the road so it is not a problem for being a bit difficult to find by yourself. The decoration and facilities are good with traditional taste, the breakfast was plentiful. Staff are very friendly and always with big smile on their face. It would be even better if the wi-fi signal is stronger in the room.
It was a great experience staying in this hostel, the building itself is already part of the enjoyment. The staff here were extremely helpful and friendly, they provided excellent advises on how to spend my day and even helped booking the required bus ticket for me. It maybe a bit hard to find at first, but you will find it interesting afterward. I was also lucky enough to make some friends here as they have several public space. Not sure about other activities, but the walking tour was nice!
The location is perfect, very close to most of the tourist spots that you can even travel on foot. Staff are friendly and eager to help even though their English level is average, The only problem maybe the noise from the street but I guess this is the trade off for being so convenient.
It was really a wonderful experience staying here, Kyoto is an old and traditional place where there is no mean to stay in modern style hostel, the best experience is to stay in place like IchiEnSou which is an over 100 years old wood building, you will then know how peacful and quiet to be in Kyoto. The place is very clean and tidy, the staff are kind and helpful, and it is very convenient too!
