Suraj Guest House

Very friendly host made us feel welcome. Use the offer of pickup (or won't it). We were kindly allowed to in empty room at no extra charge after check out.

Sky Hostel Almaty

Almaty, Kazakhstan

Nice hostel, good location, fre e(!) Laundry service. Eric, the host, is helpful and friendly

Rainbow Lodge HK

Hong Kong, Hong Kong

Good hostel, 10 people in a small room was a lot of people per square meter. But I've been told this is the rule rather than the expection in Honk Kong. Bathroom facilities also small but relatively new. Location is perfect: right next to subway hub, 1 subway stop to party area (taxi for the way back from Hong Kong island roughly 100 HKD), bus directly to HK airport stops right in front of the hostel.

Overall, very nice hostel. Only drawback: Rooms to the street loud with open windows and incredibly hot during the summer with closed windows. Bring earplugs.

Hotel Altstadtperle

Dresden, Germany

Overall very nice hotel. Note that it takes about 15 min by tram to get to the historic center. Matresses are very soft. There will a deep imprint of you in the matress in the morning.

Hostel Petero Atamu

Easter Island, Chile

Unfortunately, not recommended. Rather expensive for lower than normal quality of housing. One day the staff left the key with all keys to the entire hostel stuck in my door!!! Anybody could have taken it and gotten into any room! Also, when I locked myself out, my own key was put in the door from the outside and anybody could have gotten in. There are no lockers. Nothing was stolen though.

Alice Lodge Backpackers

Alice Springs, Australia

Recommended. Alice Springs is more of a pass-through town which makes it hard for hostels to develop a lot of atmosphere. However, I enjoyed my stay and record temperatures made the pool all the more valuable. Note that Reception is NOT open 24/7, so check if its open when you arrive. No curfew though.

Pirwa Hostels Machu Picchu

Machu Picchu, Peru

It's alright. Aguas Calientes is tourist central and you can't expect anything special here. The hostel was very empty (off season) and it was nice that the 3 people there at the time each got our own dorm room. Facilities were ok. You go there for Machu Picchu and for that, the hostel is alright.

Recommended! Nice, small, clean and rather quiet hostel in Cuzco. Its a 10 minute walk from the center. The staff is extraordinarily helpful and very interested in your safety and well being. Communal areas are nice but often empty, because the hostel is so small. Just know it's probably not the best place to meet people, because fewer people are around.

The Adventure Brew Hostel

La Paz, Bolivia

Very good hostel with extremely helpful staff. Two buildings, the one with the dorms without ensuite toilettes being the louder one, as the cellar bar opens Mo-Sa till 1 a.m. A good mix of liveliness and meeting people but with the possibility of restful sleep (most of the time). Internet is free but excruciatingly slow at times.

Warm beds (important), nice building, warm showers (again, important). Superb position on the main town square. Staff is friendly and recommends tour operators (some tour operators are dodgy, do research). Since many people only stay one night, no great atmosphere arises. No Wifi!! (but is this way in many Uyuni hostels). In sum, I recommend it.

Mamatierra Hostel

San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

I would go here again! Very clean. Is a bit further out, though this only means 10-max 15 minutes walk to any central spot in San Pedro. Not the cheapest spot in San Pedro though good value for money. Breakfast is included and good for South American hostel standard. Some staff speak English, some donĀ“t. Walls are thin so bring earplugs, not because of other guest but because stray dogs in San Pedro enjoy a night howling concert.

La Casa Roja

Santiago, Chile

The building is just awesome. Like an old, gigantic inner-city villa. There is a pool, a bar by the pool, and another bar, that opens when the pool bar closes at nine.

Adelaide Central YHA

Adelaide, Australia

Unfortunately, a rather poor stay. Room 212 smells really (!) bad and doesnt get better after leaving the window open for an entire day. Staff at receiption was either not interested at times or seriously understaffed, I can't be sure. But everytime I went there I had to wait at least 5 minutes - especially frustrating if it was because the key carded stopped working again (happened 2 times in 2 days). Nice free city tour on Saturdays, godd facilities but expensive (WiFi extra 5 Dollar/day).

Bendigo Hotel

Melbourne, Australia

Lovely, but LOUD. Its right above a pub that often has live music and even duringthe week plays music that is loud in the rooms above until after midnight. I slept well using earplugs.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hey there, thank you so much for taking the time to give us some feedback. I was wondering if those ear plugs worked; mind you, i doubt anything would work on a Grouse Party night except Tequila - and a lot of it. Hope to see you again some day even if it's just for a beer and a chat, Tiff.
