Astor Hyde Park

London, England

Staff and facilities were great, though the common room seemed more like an Internet cafe than a hostel. Still, that's not the hostel's fault. I stayed during the summer and the rooms were incredibly hot. The windows only opened a few inches. Good location right next to Hyde Park. Very friendly and helpful staff.

America del Sur Hostel Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires, Argentina

The place is more hotel than hostel. Meticulously clean, and the staff are some of the friendliest I've met in all of South America. Great location in the heart of San Telmo. Beds are comfy and air conditioning in the dorm was fantastic. Definitely would stay here again.

Hostel Achalay

Bariloche, Argentina

After a string of average to poor hostels, Achalay was a breath of fresh air. Very friendly staff, good WiFi, big lockers, and (finally) some decent bathroom/shower facilities. Great location as well - there are about four microbrew cervecerias within a two block radius. Highly recommended.

Totem Hostel

Mar del Plata, Argentina

The staff were extremely helpful and informative. WiFi was strong and fast in the common areas. Close to the coast and public beaches, with all necessary amenities nearby, including several places to buy bus tickets to your next destination. The bathrooms left a little to be desired but only a small gripe with what is otherwise an excellent hostel made that much better by the staff. I'd definitely stay here again.

The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. Really cool laid back vibe. I'll definitely stay here again when I return to Buenos Aires.

Hotel Mitru

Tupiza, Bolivia
97%

While you most likely won't spend too much time in Tupiza (mostly a base for tours to the Salar de Uyuni), I'd highly recommend Hotel Mitru. The pool was great for relaxing, and the rooms are cheap - even the privates. Breakfast included scrambled eggs, bread, and crackers with butter, jam, etc. WiFi was weak, but that seems to be par for the course in Bolivia. Great value.

Hostal Rural

San Pedro de Atacama, Chile

The staff were very helpful with organizing tours. WiFi was decent, and the dorms were fine. They've got a ping pong table and several hammocks in the common area. Pretty much everything is close by (San Pedro is a very small town). Overall a good place to stay while you're in San Pedro de Atacama.

The beds in all Pariwana Hostels are fantastic - and you get two pillows (even with dorm beds). The rooftop bar was great and had a fun and engaging staff. The staff at the front desk were also very helpful. The location couldn't be more central in Miraflores.

Palm Tree Hostel Medellin

Medellin, Colombia

Extremely helpful staff. Close to the metro, which is easily the best and cheapest way around MedellĂn. Good showers. No lockers in the dorms, however. Good bar, really good vibe. I stayed at Black Sheep and hated it, due to the crowd it attracted (the bad kind of Aussies and English) but had a great time here.

Lima Limon Candelaria Hostel

Bogota, Colombia

Great little hostel in a convenient location in La Candelaria. The staff was extremely helpful and welcoming...you really feel like you are part of a home rather than a hostel. The staff came out with us on the weekends and it made for a few great nights. Definitely made my stay in Bogota better than it would have been otherwise. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Bogota.
