YHA Christchurch

Christchurch, New Zealand

This hostel didn't have bells or whistles. But it was clean, comfortable and a close walk to all that you would want to see in Christchurch; especially close to the gardens. Didn't get the chance to socialize much here, but definitely felt safe and well-rested. Staff were helpful and friendly.

Adventure Queenstown Hostel

Queenstown, New Zealand

Definitely one of the coolest hostels I've been too. They offer you loads of free rentals (bikes are recommended) and staff are really helpful. You're a stone's throw from the beautiful lake in QT and close to the gondola and Ben Lomond trail. Guests seemed friendly here, and security is second to none. Would recommend this to anyone (especially solo travelers). You will love it. Thanks AQ!!

Aoi Garden Home

Chiang Mai, Thailand

All good things to say about Aoi's Garden Home! First, Aoi is the sweetest lady ever — took us in and made us feel like family right away. She also helped us book some amazing excursions (like Woody's Elephant Camp — do it!!). This hostel has an awesome vibe: bar and outdoors area made for some great conversation — easy to meet new friends. Helpful staff. Good food. Would recommend getting an AC room if you can: Thailand gets pretty humid. Overall, one of the best hostels I've ever stayed at!!

Siem Reap Rooms

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Siem Reap Rooms felt like a luxury hotel compared to the flashpacker places we've been staying across Asia. Staff is top notch. So helpful in arranging rides and accommodations. Only downsides—not the biggest commons area for meeting new people. Felt a bit more like a hotel than a hostel. Also a bit far out of the way compared to other guest houses. Overall however, had a most refreshing and relaxing stay—would recommend for those seeking a quiet respite from the bustle of Siem Reap.

Long Hostel

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

Loved this hostel. We actually got put across the street at Khoi Hostel, I'm assuming a sister guest house. Hospitality is second to none. We felt like family immediately. Not a huge commons area but the bar nearby was crawling with fellow travelers. Perfect location right next to the bus station (don't let your taxi driver tell you it's across town: we got duped. It's literally right across the street). Facilities could use some updating but great for a flash packer budget. Highly recommended.

The Siem Reap Hostel

Siem Reap, Cambodia

Loved our stay at the Siem Reap Hostel. Lots of activity—seemed like a great crowd of backpackers. Staff were helpful; breakfast was plentiful; pool table made for some great downtime. Lovely, clean rooms. One of the best places we've stayed in Cambodia. Highly recommended.

@Hua Lamphong

Bangkok, Thailand

@Hua Lamphong was a pleasant stay. We needed a place close to the train station since we were taking an early 6am train to Cambodian border. However, the train station is kind of far from everything in the city (good 20min+ tuktuk ride to good restaurants); still accessible. Downstairs commons is great — laundry machine was a huge plus. Good food at bar. Overall, great hostel. Recommend this place to anyone needing to be near Hua Lamphong.

Bahaus Hostel

Istanbul, Turkey

Small hostel in the middle of everything. Loved this place. Great vibe. Rooftop terrace/bar was excellent. Enjoyed drinks and conversations with new friends overlooking the Bospherous. Couldn't get a better location.

Journeys Arsenal Hostel

London, England

I don't recommend staying here. Spend a few extra pounds somewhere else. Dirty rooms, sketchy guests, crappy commons area. Not a pleasant night. Beds were not clean, carpets were gross, overheated, loud. Only redeeming things about this place were the hot showers, the pub downstairs, and the fact it was close to a tube station.

Flanagan's Village Hostel

Doolin, Ireland

Loved it here!! Mr. Flanagan was awesome... treated us like family. Felt like home. Big kitchen, really nice family room with furnace. Doolin is also a worthwhile little town. Mr. Flanagan gave us info for nightly folk music at the local pubs. Great crowds, lots of fun. Just a few miles walk (2-3 hours) from Cliffs of Moher. If you come here in winter, prepare to dress warmly. No heating. But a warm furnace, blankets, and good tea will help keep you warm. We're definitely coming back!!

Marina House

Dublin, Ireland

Marina House is kinda far from Dublin center: 2,20 euro bus ride one-way. Nice hostel. Not terribly clean but better than some places. Beds are comfortable, clean linens. Great commons area, nicely decorated. Kitchen was pretty dirty. Place could use better maintenance. Power went out while we were here, knocked out hot-water and some outlets. Our staff were nice and good to talk to. Would possibly stay here again.

Berlin, Germany

Loved this place! Definitely coming back. Ralph was great -- gave us a really good introduction to the city. Lots of character here... definitely a communal feel. Kitchen was spotless -- good accommodation. Rooms were very clean and comfortable. Fresh linens, towels. Hot showers. About 5-7 minute walk from closest metro station, kebabs and market nearby. Definitely worth the price. My recommendation for anyone traveling to Berlin.

MEININGER Frankfurt/Main Messe

Frankfurt, Germany

Great hotel. Would definitely stay at Meininger again. A little far from Frankfurt center but close to U-bahn. Lovely commons area - met some fun people here. Hotel is very, very clean. Fresh linens, hot showers. Rooms were very secure. Breakfast is good but a little expensive. Overall, great stay. Worth the price!
