besides me being only one of three people staying here, this place was awesome. EXCEPT the staff was awful. dude at the desk would get annoyed if i tried to talk to him because i was interrupting his texting. it happened repeatedly. pretty brutal. hopefully if you stay here it is full of travelers and that guy isn't working.
staff was awesome. place was great, but punta cana wasn't for me.
It's a good hostel. Technically it's on the strip, just quite a ways down from all the big name casinos and hotels. If you're looking for a place to party and meet people, you've come to the right place. If you're looking for a cheap place to get a good night's sleep, you've come to the wrong place. Staff was awesome.
It's a great hostel. Rooms are a good size, beds are nice, hot showers and even TV! That is what the newer building of the smyle inn is like anyway. There are two buildings about a block apart. I'm not sure what the old one is like. The staff, however, did not seem to be the friendliest bunch. It seemed like they thought they were doing me a favor by letting me stay there, instead of the other way around. But in the end, they were pleasant enough and it is a really good value for your money.
Easily the nicest hostel I've ever been to in India. It's definitely not the cheapest, but if you can afford spending a bit more, even just this one time, it's worth it. The private rooms are absolutely spectacular. The staff seemed ok, if not really interested in talking with me. And can be a challenge getting their attention in the restaurant. But if you want to feel like you're really on vacation, stay here. Bollywood movies every night on the big screen.
Well, it's cheap and clean enough. The guy running it is awesome. And very helpful. I guess the only downside is location. Like a twenty minute walk to the ghats.
If you need to stay by the airport, stay here. Good for meeting other travelers if you're just coming in as well.
if you're looking for peace and quiet, then this is the place. pure jungle, fireflies, big green river... it's pretty amazing. if you're looking to meet a ton of people and party - go to nuts huts, which is also super awesome. the other nice thing about this place is that they rent scooters out. which are essential if you want to really see bohol.
it's a nice place to hang out while in manilla. the staff are great. construction was noisy, but at not too early an hour. basic breakfast and instant coffee for free. free wifi.
The number one reason to stay here would be the famous "food tour", run by Tony, the founder and manager of the hostel. don't be deceived by the name of the tour - it has food in spades, but there is so much more than that. other than that, the train is a bit of a walk, but from the train you can go everywhere. only downsides: 1 bathroom to a room of 20. laundry is a minimum of $10 (singapore dollars).
definitely no complaints. (other than the guy who snored in my room every night.) location seems great. the lobby in this hostel is on of the best i've seen in a long time. really nice place to chill, wide open, comfortable, air conditioned, and free coffee and tea 24 hours a day. if you need anything, Sunny will help you out with it. he is the man. and so are the other staff members. except for the lady - in this case she is not the man, as it were.
really nice place, lots of features. Brook was the best staff person ever. great location. after traveling internationally, it's hard to pay over $30 for a hostel... but it's north america, so everything is relatively expensive.
nothing to complain about really - nothing to be excited about though either. the lack of any sort of common room is a downer.
great place, great staff, very secure. the only problem is that it takes about an hour in traffic with a taxi to get to khao san road, plus it costs about 135 baht. other than that, the street the hostel is on has amaaaaaazing food.
martin, the guy who runs the place was awesome. he's british, so if english is your language, it's feels like a luxury to be able to speak freely with someone who runs the hostel. also, be advised - the name of the hostel written outside is not "encounters". it says "nomads". i'm not really sure the reason for this. all in all, no complaints.

i see why this is rated the top hostel. i don't think i could say enough great things about the staff. if you come, you'll see. no problem is too small for them to help you.
i know it's not their fault, but, contruction ALL night long outside the windows. wear ear-plugs.
very great location. only 15-20 minute walk to the forbidden city. they offer amazing tours to the great wall, which i have a feeling is one of the best sections of the wall. highly recommended. and it's pretty good for fun and meeting people too.
