Nice place in the middle of Haendae beach with big kitchen, good breakfast and helpful staff, especially Gabriella the manager. It's really close to subway station and Haendae beach nightlife.

Guesthouse Ochakare

Kanazawa, Japan
94%

Ochakare is located near futuristic JR Kanazawa station. While very clean and modern (no surprises here), it was rather cold (physically). Rooms upstairs will be quieter because the room downstairs are extremely close to the common room. However, the place is hardly a party place so it's not a big deal.

Bonsai Guest House

Osaka, Japan
94%

Nowhere in the world have I met the staff more service oriented than at Bonsai. I bet people who stay at 4 Seasons get a lesser service. I give them 200% rating. The hostel is located very close to the JR Momodani station. If you have JR pass you ride to Dotombori and see all the goodies. Tip: Check out Spa World in Osaka. That place is super awesome.

Guesthouse Roujiya is a deluxe B&B serving as hostel. The facilities are top notch. It's located in a very cool Japanese house combining traditional and modern elements.

good location within a walking distance of an awesome izakaya district and tram line. I was lucky to attend a sake party at the hostel kitchen. I wish they hostels like in Japan everywhere else in the world.

A hostel in a traditional house with very friendly staff that makes you feel like a family. Japanese stay there as well which makes stays more culturally enriching. Beware of a drink special made with 200 proof alcohol. It is lethal (in a good way) like in Hitchhiker's Guide ti the Galaxy. Locals often stop by for a drink at the hostel bar. So it feels like a izakaya. A double bonus.

Oak Hostel

Tokyo, Japan
97%

The location is rather convenient near JR Yamanote line Ueno station. There is good Sukya fast-food joint nearby .The common area is a bit small. The checkout is a bit early too: 10am. Unlike Hong Kong the hostel standards in Japan are rather high. So this place met the standard.

Hong Kong Inn

Hong Kong, Hong Kong
83%

This place is located in the flat in the apartment building so it feels like a shared apartment but without any staff present. They also allow anytime check-ins which resulted in all lights turned on at 2am. Overall, the quality of hostels in Hong Kong is one of the worst in the world so the expectations are rather low.

Pariwana Hostel Cusco

Cusco, Peru

Well organized hostel with lots of activities and a lively bar. The only thing I didn't like was a barebones breakfast and lots of upsells to buy more expensive(non-included) breakfasts. I haven't found such practices in lots of other South American countries.

Owner Comment (Hide)
Hi : We are glad to have you as a part of the Pariwana┬┤s family member and to know that you had a great time with us. About the free breakfast that is included in the rate we serve Coffee, milk, chocolate powder, fresh fruit mixed with a bit oforange juice, 3 types of breads, butter, strawberry jam, infusions and coca leaves. This breakfast is quite a Continental breakfast which is the traditional free breakfast worldwide. Please let us know if you have any other idea about the alternatives of the breakfast to improve it. Have a great time in your trip. Regards Jose Miguel, Quality Service Manager

A very upscale hostel that was a welcome break from party hostels. Imagine staying at your rich neighbor's mansion for a low price. Champagne taste on the beer budget, baby.

Hostal de Su Merced

Sucre, Bolivia

This place is rated 3 star by Frommers for its uniqueness. The breakfast is absolutely best in the Bolivia, if not in South America. A heater is welcome addition to cold altiplano nights. The view from the top terrace are unbelievable. Take a break from dormitories and treat yourself to sumthin' nice once a while.

The Mango Tree

In Rio a 6 bed 2 story dorm is a rarity. Mango Tree had it. The backyard was pleasant for hanging out. They also take credit cards.

Art Hostel Rio

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
83%

Pros: Art Hostel feels like a modern art museum. The location is just around the corner from Catete metro station. Cons: Now, this maybe due to the busy Semana Santa check-in but nobody showed me around this humongous place so I missed breakfast the first day. Also, the combos of shower and toilet were rather inconvenient.

It was an honor to stay at George's tropical paradise guesthouse. I nominate George for the most hospitable person in South America.

The breakfast was in top 2 I've had in South America. The front door security was a bit elementary but it seemed to work fine. Historic center was only 5 minute walk away while the bus station was practically right there. They also had extremely awesome cult movie collection.

Global Hostel has a great staff and is located smack in the center. Paraiso metro station is very convenient for traveling to all points of the city. It's relatively easy to meet people due to all the daily activities happening in this hostel. The only downside is the lack of breakfast.

Hostel Suites Mendoza

Mendoza, Argentina

This hostel was a bit too big for me. It's an multi-story apartment complex so it can have lots of people. The no outside liquor policy was odd for wine happy Mendoza. Bathrooms were really cramped. I liked the fact that it was located across the street from the city market with cheap food stalls.

Etnico Eco Hostel

Pucon, Chile

Really nice hostel with friendly staff (Jessie) located in the middle of all the action. The staff can help you to book all the myriads of activities in Pucon. The downsides were the lack of the breakfast and somewhat spotty wireless connection. YMMV.

Backpackers Kaweskar Hostel

One of my best stays. The staff was really helpful with organizing activities around Torres Del Paine NP. The place had a look and feel of a lodge without lodge prices.
