Taohuawoo Youth Hostel, Suzhou, China

It was located near the bei si pagoda, so a bit outside the main tourist crawl, but you could still walk to places. The street the hostel is down is cobbled so not very convenient if you do not have a backpack (and taxis won't go down it). The staff weren't overly helpful, questions were met with a grunt, and their English is not great. The shared toilets and bathrooms were really dirty, and the shower lights werent working so we had to shower with the door open which wasn't very nice.

The room was dirty and smelled really bad of cigarette smoke even by china standards. Staff were not very warm or helpful, poor wifi reception and the bar was grossly overpriced. It lacked a hostel atmosphere and didnt feel good value for money but the area was convenient for the tianmen area.

It was obvious from our stay there why the hostel was a topchoice in lonely planet! Great helpful staff who gave really good suggestions and directions and who organized activities daily like mahjong and BBQs! Everything a hostel should be and good value for money too

If you can overlook the alright shared bathrooms, a couple broken windows and rickety door locks this hostel is the place to stay in Kashgar! The location was perfect and the common areas were a lovely place to meet other travelers and escape the afternoon heat. Topped up with excellent, well informed staff, the charm of this hostel helped make Kashgar our favourite stop on this trip!
