Crowded House, Eceabat, Turkey

Crowded House is a travel agency first, there was a noticeable change in attitude from the staff when they realised that I preferred to explore the battlefields on my own. Offers of help with transport turned into "there's a taxi rank out the front". The hotel seems to mainly cater for overnight trips from Istanbul, so the place was pretty dead at night. On the plus side, Eceabat is about as close to the battlefields as you can stay and the rooms are fairly cheap.

Great location and staff with an amazing view of Hagia Sophia. It's definitely a party hostel. Only downside was that the room itself didn't have a lock, although lockers were provided.

Let's face it, you stay at this place because it is cheap. Sure it's tiny inside and the one key per room thing is weird, the showers aren't great and there's no cover for the duvet ... But it's the cheapest place I've stayed outside of Asia.

Central Backpacker's Hostel, Hanoi, Vietnam

The place is clean, comfortable and provides free beer, although there isn't much space in the locker they provide and the rest of your stuff has to be stashed under the bed. We booked this place because it seemed to have a good reputation for Halong Bay tours. The bus and boat were very comfortable, but the price of drinks were outrageous ($1 for a small water) and some of the crew were extremely rude. Overall the tour was decent value for money.

A great pub with free beer downstairs, quiet/clean/comfortable enough to sleep upstairs.
