Introduction

Beijing Opera / Peking Opera is a form of traditional Chinese theatre which combines music, vocal performance, mime, dance & acrobatics. Peking Opera has come to be regarded as one of the cultural treasures of China.

Historically, many performances were held in eating courts/restaurants. Clothing was bright and colourful to allow spectators to see the performers easier in the dim lighting. Performers would also often sing at a higher pitch, so they could be heard over the conversation noise.

This time, see the ancient art of Beijing Opera in a comfortable theatre with easy-to-read English subtitles.
