Established in 1338 after King John of Luxembourg granted the Old Town the right to have its own council, the Old Town Hall has always been at the heart of Prague's history and life. It began as a single house but over the centuries it expanded, incorporating more and more buildings until it dominated the Old Town Square.

Beneath this historic building lie a series of catacombs and chambers, some dating to the 12th century, recently restored so visitors can see the other side of the Old Town Hall. You will visit the site of a former courtroom, see traces of the building's origins as family homes, and the gruesome remnants of its days as the Old Town's prison.

Our knowledgeable guides will lead you through 800 years of history, from the origins of the Old Town, the construction of the different buildings within the Old Town Hall, through wars and religious upheaval, right up to the dramatic battle in 1945 which nearly destroyed the Hall forever.
