On the westbank of the Nile is Deir Amba Samaan, the coptic Monastery of St Simeon. This monastery from the 7th century is allready eight centuries unused, but good preserved. Because of lack of water the monastery was abandoned. Surrounded by high walls, it looks like a castle in the desert. To reach the monastery you have to walk a few hundred meters into the desert. The location is superb with nice views
