Tour Itinerary

We pay homage to this famous and controversial author, his novel "Slaughterhouse Five" and his experiences as prisoner of war during the bombing of Dresden with this tour.

This tour intends to introduce the author Kurt Vonnegut, his book, the connections to Dresden including information about the events described and the history of the 'Old Slaughterhouse District'. Nothing is more exciting than the symbiotic relationship between literature and reality.

For this tour only we managed to secure the possibility to actually visit the still existing meat locker, which Vonnegut described in his book; that basement wherein the author and his fellow POW survived the horrible events of February 1945.

We provide the tour Monday to Friday at 2 p.m., starting at 'Theaterplatz', the central square of the baroque and rebuilt Altstadt. In consultation with the current occupant of the meat locker building, the "Messe Dresden", it might be possible to include Saturdays/Sunday as well.
